Canadas divers earned three medals on the first day of finals at the Canada Cup in Montreal, winning a gold and two silver medals on Saturday. wholesale nfl jerseys . Olympians Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion led the charge, winning gold in the womens synchronized 10-metre platform by just over one point. The pairs final 327.96 score was its second highest of the year. "Coming in today with the win in front of family and friends in Montreal is the best feeling," said Filion, who grew up in Laval, Que. "It was a really close call at the end, our last dive really saved us in that situation. But overall, Im really really excited about this performance. The points were really high even though we made a few mistakes." Compatriots Carol-Ann and Pamela Ware -- sisters from Beloeil, Que., -- finished just behind with 326.28 points but due to FINA rules that prohibit two teams from the same country from landing on the podium at a Grand Prix competition, they did not collect a medal. Despite finishing almost 10 points behind the Wares, Australians Loudy Wiggins and Rachel Bugg were bumped up to a silver medal with 316.86 points. Chinese divers Kang Li and Sheng Yi were third with 315.18. Pamela Ware bounced back in the individual 3m final, finishing second for a second time that day -- and this time, she earned her silver medal. "I didnt get the points I wanted but Im still really happy," Ware said. "Its my first Grand Prix (individual) final ever, so that was really exciting." Ware scored 333.75, almost 7.5 points off her personal best -- 341.30, a score that helped Ware to a fourth-place finish at Februarys World Cup. But despite her previous international experience, Ware still found her nerves were frayed ahead of Saturday competition. "I was kind of scared getting into the final since it is my first one and I didnt know how people would dive," Ware explained. "Im really excited now that I saw that Im up there with them. I felt really great, and a little more confident, too." Teammate and three-time Olympic medallist Émilie Heymans was not so fortunate. Heymans, in a points race with Ware to pick up the last womens 3m spot on Canadas Olympic team, finished fifth with just 295.35 points. A missed dive in the second round was the culprit, and it took the 30-year-old veteran out of contention entirely. Although Heymans was able to bounce back to finish the competition with three strong dives, she told CTVOlympics.ca that she was disappointed with her performance. "I still made a really big mistake, which shouldnt happen," she said. "I rarely do that in training so its a little upsetting that it happened in competition." Heymans, who trained in both the 10m and 3m events before focusing exclusively on the 10m platform for the 2008 Olympic Games, switched back to the 3m in 2009. She has enjoyed some success at the height, including a silver medal at the 2009 World Championships in Rome. This season, however, she has struggled to earn a single individual medal. Heymans will have another shot at the podium in Sundays synchronized 3m competition with diving partner Jennifer Abel. In the mens synchronized 3m event, Alexandre Despatie of Laval and Reuben Ross of Regina, Sask., finished second with 419.58 points -- matching their highest international score as a synchronized pair this year -- to earn silver behind Malaysias Bryan Nickson Lomas and Huang Qiang. Lomas and Qiang scored over eighty points on three of their six dives to win gold with a total of 431.10, while Rommel Pacheco and Jonathan Rovalcaba of Mexico earned bronze with 388.71. Despatie will be back in action on Sunday in the mens individual 3m final, where he has said he may debut his newest and most difficult dive, the forward 4.5 somersault. In the mens 10m competition, also Saturday, Victorias Riley McCormick just missed out on a bronze medal, finishing fourth with 478.75 points. Mexicos Andres Villarreal was first with 512 -- edging Jose Guerra of Cuba by just under two points -- while Jenkler Aguirre, also of Cuba, was third with 480.50. The competition is one of the last opportunities for Canadians to earn qualifying points before the Olympic trials at the end of the month in Montreal. The Canada Cup continues Sunday with the mens individual 3m springboard, the womens synchronized 3m springboard, the womens individual 10m platform and the mens synchronized 10m platform finals. Beats By Dre Boxing Day . -- Adrian Peterson shouldnt have any reason to get "hot" at Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier this week. wholesale nfl jerseys . Christian Thomas of the Oshawa Generals and Michael Ferland of the Brandon Wheat Kings also scored for White. Brett Bulmer of the Kelowna Rockets, Jerome Gauthier-Leduc of the Rimouski Oceanic and Mark McNeill of the Prince Albert Raiders had assists. http://www.cheapjerseysfromchinas... . Vogelsong gave up five early runs before retiring his final 10 batters and helped his cause by walking with the bases loaded as the San Francisco Giants rallied for a 7-6 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. Atletico Madrid Jerseys . - Scott Dixon became the latest driver to deny Roger Penske an IndyCar championship, wrapping up his third title Saturday night in a race of attrition at Auto Club Speedway. BRISBANE, Australia -- Serena Williams did a quick little dance behind the baseline to remind herself to move her feet. After a complete air swing at the net in the second set, she smiled ruefully and drew in some long, deep breathes. She netted a service return on her first match point. Top-ranked Williams first competitive match of the season, on New Years Eve, was by no means perfect, but the 6-4, 6-4 win over Andrea Petkovic at the Brisbane International was a decent start against a player who has been ranked as high as No. 9. She made 36 unforced errors, including the big miss on Petkovics floater in the fifth game of the second set, but hit 35 winners and fired 11 aces including one at 196 kph (122 mph) to bring up set point in the first. "It was an intense match, which was really good," Williams said. "Shes been in the top 10 before and she was on her way to being even better. It was a good match for me." Williams started 2013 in Brisbane with a title, the first of 11 for a year that included two major championships. Shes back with the aim of carrying the momentum into 2014. And shes already into the quarterfinals where shell meet ninth-seeded Dominika Cibulkova, who overcame 43-year-old Japanese veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. Williams had a win-loss record of 78-4 last season and spent all but seven weeks atop the rankings, and she hasnt lowered her expectations for the year ahead. "I had a similar question in 2012. I had such a good year winning two slams and a (Olympic) gold and two doubles. It was a loot," she said. wholesale jerseys. "I just didnt think I could do better. Arguably I may have done better (in 2013), so Im just going to be up for that challenge again." In other second-round matches, fourth-seeded Jelena Jankovic beat Elina Svitolina of Ukraine 6-1, 6-3. On the mens side, sixth-seeded Feliciano Lopez of Spain had a 6-4, 6-4 win over Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan, No. 8 Jeremy Chardy beat fellow Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 7-6 (4) 7-5, Australias Matthew Ebden beat American Alex Kuznetsov 6-3, 6-4 and Nicolas Mahut of France defeated Igor Sijsling of the Netherlands 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. At the WTA event in Auckland, New Zealand, former No. 1-ranked Ana Ivanovic overcame a sore shoulder and saved four set points on serve on her way to a 7-5, 7-6 (2) win over American Alison Riske. The second-seeded Ivanovic required treatment during the second set and played the latter stages with her right shoulder strapped. At 3-5 and 0-40 down in the second, she faced the prospect of a difficult third set but strung together a series of powerful serves to save the game, then broke Riske to force a tiebreak. "I was very happy to get through that second set after I was down," Ivanovic said. "There was a bit of wind and I had wind nerves, there were a few mis-hits and then this (shoulder injury) happened." Third-seeded Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium advanced 6-4, 7-5 over Monica Puig of Puerto Rico, but fourth-seeded Sorana Cirstea of Romania and former champion Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium both lost to qualifiers.
