FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. . -- The Atlanta Falcons have re-signed fullback Mike Cox and released the player who beat him out, Lousaka Polite. Cox initially signed with the Falcons last season after Ovie Mughelli went down with an injury. Cox was favoured to keep the job heading into this season but the Falcons went with Polite, a seven-year veteran who had previously played with Dallas, Chicago, Miami and New England. With the running game not performing as well as expected, the Falcons brought back Cox on Wednesday for his blocking skills. Also, he might provide help in pass protection with this weeks opponent, New Orleans, expected to blitz heavily. The Saints sacked Michael Vick seven times in a Monday night victory. The last-place Phillies were 0-42 when trailing after eight innings before coming back against Rodriguez, who replaced John Axford as the closer last week. On Sunday, the Phillies beat San Francisco on Jimmy Rollins RBI hit in the 12th inning. "Its huge. We have to build on that momentum," Ryan Howard said. "We need to take that energy and spread it over nine innings." With one out against K-Rod, Rollins walked, Juan Pierre singled and Chase Utley walked to load the bases. Howard ripped an 0-2 pitch up the middle to drive in a pair and cut it to 6-5. Carlos Ruiz followed with a line-drive hit to left-centre to tie it at 6. Hunter Pence walked to load the bases again.
