SEATTLE -- Sammy Ochoa and Steve Zakuani scored first-half goals and the Seattle Sounders beat Honduras Marathon 3-1 on Wednesday night to finish 4-0 in group play in the CONCACAF Champions League. . Seattle had already wrapped up a spot in the quarterfinals. Michel Brown scored late in the first half for Marathon, and David Estrada added a second-half goal for Seattle. The Sounders joined Mexican teams Monterrey and Santos Laguna with 4-0-0 records. They will be the No. 3 seed for the quarterfinal knockout round next March on the basis of their plus-7 goal differential. Monterrey is the top seed at plus-15, and Santos Laguna is No. 2 at plus-12. Seattles opponent wont be settled until after the conclusion of group play Thursday. Marathon was second in the three-team group at 1-2-1, and Trinidad and Tobagos Caledonia AIA was last at 0-3-1. Ochoa opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with his team-leading fourth Champions League goal. Mario Martinez settled the ball near the right corner flag, crossed it into the penalty area, and Ochoa ran onto it from 8 yards straight in front, firing into the back left corner. Zakuani made it 2-0 just before the end of the 27th minute. He took a short pass from Jeff Parke up the left side, went into the box and curled a 16-yard shot around the left post. Marathon got one back from Brown on a well-executed counterattack late in the 37th minute. Mauricio sent a long ball down the right side where Tulio Vega caught up with it and took it into the box, drawing Sounders goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann off his line. Vega sent it across the goalmouth, and Brown slammed it into a wide-open net from in front of the left post. Estrada finished the scoring in the 76th minute. Hahnemann, a two-time U.S. World Cup team member and 13-year veteran of the English Premier League, made four saves in his first game for his hometown team since signing Sept. 14. It was his first competitive game since Jan. 30, 2011, when he was in the net for Wolverhampton in a 1-0 English FA Cup loss to Stoke City. The sides are set to resume talks at an undisclosed location Wednesday with U.S. federal mediators Scot L. Family comes first. Simpsons wife, Dowd, is due to give birth to the couples second child in late July, and he says he plans to be home in North Carolina with her when that happens. "We havent made any official decisions because were going to go to the doctor next week and get an up-to-date projection on the baby," Simpson said Friday after his second round at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut. "What I said about not going, its just a probably. Its not looking likely that Ill be able to go that far." The Open begins July 19 at Royal Lytham and St. Annes in Lancashire, England, and Simpson said his wife is no longer cleared to travel with him. "Im a guy who loves my family, and were probably only going to have a couple of more babies," Simpson said earlier this week. "I have the rest of my life to play the British Open," Simpson called witnessing the birth of his first son, 16-month-old James, one of the greatest experiences of his life. He had another special moment last week, winning the first major golf championship of his career, but said even that wasnt enough to tempt him to get on a plane to England. "After winning, its certainly a little harder not to go, because Id love to go and try to win another major," he said. "But in thhe grand scheme of things, in the grand scheme of life, its a decision that I know that Ill always be happy that I made. " Simpson calls himself a "people pleaser" and says hes is still trying to get used to all the new demands on his time after his win at Olympic. He turned down several opportunities this week to appear on late-night talk shows, because of other commitments, and said hes learning to prioritize. His friend, Masters champion Bubba Watson, gave him some advice. "I just told him, I said, Youre going to have more fans; youre going to have more people wanting you to sign, and your agents going to have more things for you to do. Youre just going to have to be able to say no," Watson said. "Youre the boss. Your agent works for you. You just got to be able to say no and do whats right for you and your family, not whats right for other people. Its always whats right for you and your family who comes first." Simpson said hes not yet wearing a beeper but is making sure his wife gives him regular updates this weekend. "Ive been talking to her a lot and doing the video thing with my boy, trying to stay connected," he said. "But Im certainly ready to get home." This would be the second time in five years the British Open does not have the U.S. Open winner in its field. In 2008, Tiger Woods was forced to miss the trip because of knee surgery. ' ' '
