(Sports Network) - Last-second plays doomed both the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers last time out. . The two clubs square off tonight for a much-needed win as the Lakers host a Nuggets club playing for a second straight night. Catch all the action live on TSN2 at 10:30pm et/7:30pm pt. The Lakers have been out of action since dropping a 79-77 decision to the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday, a loss that moved the club to just 2-3 under head coach Mike DAntoni. Brought in to increase Los Angeles scoring tempo, the Lakers shot just 31.6 percent from the floor and were only 23-of-43 from the foul line. Still, Los Angeles tied the game with 24.5 seconds to play with Kobe Bryant, playing through flu-like symptoms, hitting a three-pointer, but Indianas George Hill ran the clock to four seconds before making his move to the basket and putting home a high-arching underhanded scoop shot over the shot-blocking Dwight Howard with just one-tenth of a second left on the clock. "Its hard to win a game when you miss 20 foul shots," DAntoni said. "Offensively that was tough. Theres no way you can play that bad and win. It was just bad shooting." Bryant managed to post 40 points and 10 rebounds on 12-for-28 shooting, hitting five of his 11 shots from behind the 3-point line while logging 43:44 of action. However, he also turned the ball over 10 times. "It boggles my mind that I had 10 turnovers. My responsibility is to pick everybody up," said Bryant. "It doesnt matter if we miss 20 free throws, we still could have won the game. The fact is we had 10 possessions where we couldnt get looks at the basket because I turned it over." Bryants 40-point game was the 114th of his career, third-most in NBA history behind only Wilt Chamberlain (271) and Michael Jordan (173). It also marked the eighth time in his career in which he scored at least half of his teams points in a game. Howard netted 17 points, but was just 3-of-12 from the foul line. The Nuggets had their chances to beat the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night, but a missed free throw and a game-ending 3-point attempt that wasnt gotten off in time led to a 106-105 defeat. Down by three, Andre Iguodala was fouled on a shot attempt from behind the arc and hit the first two free-throw attempts before missing the third. The ball went out of bounds and the Nuggets got the ball back with 2.1 seconds left. A botched alley-oop pass attempt ran the clock down to 0.5 seconds, but Denver again got the ball back. Iguodala then sunk a 3-point try, but a video review showed that he did not get the shot off in time. "If I put a stopwatch on it, it seemed the clock started early for me. But theres nothing to argue about. If the camera says its in his hand, its in his hand," said Denver head coach George Karl. Iguodala ended with 22 points, the third time in his last four games that he has scored 20-plus. He is averaging 20.4 ppg over his last five, while Danilo Gallinari added 20 points and nine rebounds to give him averages of 17.7 points and 5.7 rebounds over his last six. Denver was coming off a 105-103 road loss to Utah on Monday that snapped a four-game slide and the club ends a three-game trip with this game. The Nuggets host Toronto on Dec. 3 and then hit the road for another five straight. Though the Nuggets have won seven of their past 13 regular-season meetings with the Lakers, Los Angeles knocked Denver out of the first round in last seasons playoffs in seven games. The Lakers have also won 25 of their last 29 at home versus the Nuggets, not including playoffs. [url=http://www.cowboysofficialteamstore.com/autographed-michael-irvin-jersey-ny... Nadal broke the Slovak twice in a first set that lasted 50 minutes, before finally overpowering Lacko to take the second in just over half an hour and wrap up the match. "In the second set I think I did everything better," said Nadal, who defeated top-ranked Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros on Monday for his 11th Gram Slam title. SURREY, B.C. -- Wally Buono is not usually one to make bold predictions, but he offered one Monday about Brent Johsons decision to retire after 11 CFL seasons. "I bet you my life, he wont have a regret," said Buono. The veteran defensive end called it a career just over three months after the Lions completed a miraculous worst-to-first run following a 0-5 start and defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 34-23 in the Grey Cup game at B.C. Place. Buono, a former defensive player himself during his playing days with the Montreal Alouttes, who stopped coaching after 22 seasons following the Grey Cup win to focus on his general manager duties, knows about career changes. But he feels no inclination to give Johnson advice. "When a man like that makes the decision -- and he makes that decision -- you know hes ready for it, because hes got an out," said Buono. Is it going to be easy? No, its not going to be easy, because all of us, this is who we are. This is what we do." Johnson has already embarked on a career as a financial advisor with CIBC Wood Gundy. He may also do some broadcast work after appearing regularly on a sports TV networks weekly football segment. "Football has given me so much," said Johnson in an interview. "I hope Ive never taken it for granted, but its nice to walk away from the game on your own terms. Its also nice to leave while youre still healthy." Johnson leaves as the Lions all-time leader in sacks with 89. He was twice named the CFLs outstanding Canadian and also captured the leagues top defensive player award. Three times he was named a CFL all-star and helped B.C. win two Grey Cups during his time with the club. The 35-year-old Kingston, Ont., native spent his entire CFL career with the Lions, who selected him in the third round of the 2001 draft out of Ohio State. He joined the Lions after being among the final cuts of the NFLs Jacksonville Jaguars and declined opportunities for potential practice-roster spots with other clubs because he wanted to play. And play he did. He played in 184 consecutive contests with the Lions before finally missing a game last October against Edmonton to be with his wife Lara for the birth of their first child, son Roman Jake. Johnsons playing time was reduced the past two seasons as the Lions rotated defensive linemen more frequently. But Buono made it clear Johnnson could have kept playing if he wanted to. [url=http://www.cowboysofficialteamstore.com/autographed-jason-witten-jersey-ea-... Witten Jersey. "It takes a very inner-perspective kind of guy to do this," said Buono. "Hes got this opportunity. Hes giving up a good chunk of money. Hes giving up a lifestyle that most people would definitely love." Johnson said the most adversity was not the reduced playing time, which he was willing to accept. Instead, it was in the early days of his career when he was battling for an opportunity to become a rare Canadian starter at defensive end. He praised Buono for giving him the chance after arriving in B.C. in 2003. "Before I met Wally, they had slotted certain guys for certain positions and it depended on your passport," said Johnson. "It was relieving to me to meet a guy like Wally that said only the best players go out on the field and play." Buono said coaches can only give players the opportunity. Its still up to them to take the opportunity. Johnson took it, ran with it and never looked back. New Lions head coach Mike Benevides, the Lions defnsive co-ordinator before he was promoted, praised Johnson for helping the club get through its 0-5 stretch when it could have "fallen apart instead." "When look at Brent, I look at the most dominant defensive end of the league in the recent history in our league," said Benevides. "A lot of people know him as a non-import. But when Brent was playing at the peak of his career, it didnt really matter where he was from. He could have an impact on the game. He changed the game. He affected how offences approached us." Former teammate Davis Sanchez, noting Johnson is among few players who get to go out on their own terms, said he was much different off the field than on. "He was such an easy-going, mild-mannered guy off the field and then all of a sudden the switch would turn when the game came," said Sanchez. "He was pretty fierce between the lines." When a player is as durable as Johnson, said Buono, you never envision him not playing. He said the Lions can always find another pass-rusher, but do not yet know whether hey can replace Johnsons leadership. "You hope that the legacy isnt consecutive games (or) sack totals," said Buono. "Its also about what it means to be a pro, what it means to be a B.C. Lion -- what it means to be a champion." ' ' '
