HOUSTON -- Houstons defence flattened Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins in minutes. . Arian Foster had two touchdown runs, Matt Schaub threw a TD pass to Andre Johnson, and Houston overwhelmed the rookie quarterback in the Texans 30-10 win over Miami on Sunday. Tannehill, the eighth overall pick in the draft, completed 20 of 36 passes for 219 yards in his NFL debut. But he threw three interceptions in a game-turning stretch late in the first half, and the Texans marched to an impressive opening win in what they believe can be a Super Bowl season. "We were explosive as a team in that period of the second quarter," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said of his defences six minutes of opportunism. Defensive end J.J. Watt deflected two passes that resulted in interceptions and also had 1 1/2 sacks. The 6-foot-5 Watt, Houstons first-round draft pick in 2011, missed most of training camp with a dislocated left elbow. "I know I have long arms," Watt said. "You cant get a sack every play, so you might as well try to bat the ball." Schaub threw for 266 yards in his first action since fracturing his right foot in Week 10 last year, and Johnson finished with 119 yards receiving. Schaub announced after the game that he had signed a four-year contract extension that will keep him here through the 2016 season. "Im excited for it to be done and over with so every ounce of focus and energy can be directed to this season," said Schaub, whose previous contract was due to expire after this season. Marcus Thigpen returned a punt 72 yards for Miamis touchdown. The Dolphins gained only 275 total yards. Tannehill was still encouraged. "I felt like we hurt ourselves more than they really just stopped us," Tannehill said. "Thats a good defence. So being able to move the ball on a good defence like that gives us some confidence. Obviously, we have to fix a lot of things and eliminate those turnovers. But I think it gives us a look at what we could be if we played to our full potential." Referee Don King called a penalty on "Texas" in the first half, drawing laughter from the fans. Otherwise, the replacement officials avoided any major slip-ups in Houston. The Texans, whove boldly adopted a "Super Bowl or Bust" mantra, came out sluggish. They dropped passes and missed tackles early and trailed 3-0 in the second quarter. The team unfurled a red, white and blue "2011 AFC South Champions" banner before the game, but the impatient fans were already booing after another drive stalled in the second period. "It wasnt pretty," Schaub said. "Anyone in our locker room can tell you that we can play much better than we did today." The Texans got the kick-start they needed from their defence, the catalyst for last years playoff drive. Pro Bowl cornerback Johnathan Joseph started the flurry of Miami turnovers when he intercepted Tannehill and weaved 36 yards down the sideline. Mike Pouncey shoved Joseph out of bounds for a personal foul, setting up Houston at the Miami 7. Shayne Graham tied it with a 35-yard field goal. On Miamis next series, Watt deflected Tannehills pass at the line, and Brian Cushing came down with another interception. Schaub converted a third down with a 24-yard pass to Johnson, and Foster weaved for a 14-yard touchdown to put Houston in front. Watt swatted Tannehills next pass and cornerback Kareem Jackson came down with it at the Miami 27. Richard Marshall then was called for pass interference and Foster plowed into the end zone from the 1. Tannehill handed off on Miamis next play from scrimmage, but that didnt work for the floundering Dolphins, either. Daniel Thomas fumbled and Danieal Manning recovered at the Dolphins 31 with 28 seconds left before halftime. Schaub threw a pinpoint pass to the end zone for Johnson, who outmuscled Sean Smith for a 24-3 halftime lead. "I liked the way we were able to work through our uneasiness early in the game," Kubiak said, "and be a darn good football team there in the second quarter." Thomas, Miamis second-leading rusher last season, left with a head injury and did not return. Miamis Joe Philbin, in his NFL head coaching debut, said after the game that he had no new information about Thomas injury. Graham added 40- and 19-yard field goals after Thigpens punt return. Notes: Miamis Reggie Bush rushed for 69 yards on 14 carries for Miami. ... Johnson has 39 career 100-yard receiving games. ... Texans LB Tim Dobbins left with a neck injury. ... The announced attendance was 71,566, the second-largest crowd for a Texans home game. The record crowd is 71,585, set against Pittsburgh last Oct. 2. The league will receive 120 million pounds ($185 million) over three years from the 2013-14 season, a jump from the 82 million (then $135 million) pounds under the current terms. Britains third largest bank has held naming rights to the worlds richest football league since 2001. . Michael Arnold, lead negotiator for the NFL Referees Association, says the union remains "willing to negotiate with the NFL in order to reach a fair agreement." But Arnold says "no additional meetings are scheduled at this time. About 4,000 fans showed up at LAX early Wednesday morning to welcome the Western Conference champions back from Arizona. Even Game 5 hero Dustin Penner was awestruck. "It was like driving down a hallway lined with human flesh," said Penner, who scored the overtime goal that sent the Kings to the Stanley Cup final. . Terry, who was shown a red card during the second leg of the Champions League semifinal against Barcelona in April after striking Alexis Sanchez in the back with his knee, served the first match of his ban during the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.Sidney Crosbys new contract will make him the NHLs highest-paid player. At least if you average the first nine years of the deal. The Pittsburgh Penguins captain officially signed a massive US$104.4-million, 12-year extension on Sunday that is heavily front-loaded. Crosby will receive $95.4 million of that over the first nine years, including an annual salary of $12 million for three seasons starting in 2013-14. With the final three years due to pay just $9 million total, its the type of contract widely expected to be eliminated in the next collective bargaining agreement. Determining the best breakdown was one of the toughest aspects of negotiations. "We talked over the last couple months about structure, things like that," Penguins GM Ray Shero said earlier this week. "As we got down to it and I sat down with Sid and talked to him, I think the balance was to try and find a contract -- in his third contract -- where we could pay Sidney Crosby accordingly. "But as Sid always says to me ... `OK, thats fine, but how can I help the team? How does that help the team? " Crosby received some criticism when the deal was announced on Thursday because it carries the same $8.7-million cap hit as his current deal. That leaves him second oon the NHLs list behind Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and the $9. [url=http://www.ramsofficialteamstore.com/autographed-trumaine-johnson-jersey-za... Johnson Jersey. 53 million he earns each year. However, a closer examination of the contract shows Crosby will earn an average of $10.6 million over the first nine years -- taking him until his 35th birthday. By tacking on three seasons at a much lower salary after that, Crosby lowered the overall cap hit of his deal and left the Penguins well positioned to sign other impact players. The native of Cole Harbour, N.S., wanted to commit to Pittsburgh for the rest of his career while making sure the team will remain a Stanley Cup contender. "When youre negotiating a contract of this magnitude, as a player its important to understand what you want and where you want to be," agent Pat Brisson of CAA Sports said earlier this week. "Sidney understood that from Day 1." --- Here is the year-by-year breakdown of Sidney Crosbys contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins: 2013-14 -- $12 million 2014-15 -- $12 million 2015-16 -- $12 million 2016-17 -- $10.9 million 2017-18 -- $10.9 million 2018-19 -- $10 million 2019-20 -- $9 million 2020-21 -- $9.6 million 2021-22 -- $9 million 2022-23 -- $3 million 2023-24 -- $3 million 2024-25 -- $3 million ' ' '
