EDMONTON -- Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture each had two goals and an assist as the San Jose Sharks won their second in a row to start the abbreviated NHL season, defeating the Oilers 6-3 on Tuesday night and ruin Edmontons home opener. . Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Dan Boyle also scored and Joe Thornton had three assists for the Sharks (2-0-0). Taylor Hall, Nail Yakupov and Justin Schultz replied for the Oilers (1-1-0). San Jose struck first on a two-man advantage just three minutes into the match as Joe Pavelski fed it to Boyle at the top of the circle and his blast got past Edmontons starting goalie Devan Dubnyk. It was a 2-0 game just over a minute later as the Sharks again capitalized on the power play, this time on a Couture wrist shot that fooled Dubnyk. Edmonton was able to respond on a power play of its own eight and a half minutes into the opening period as Sam Gagner passed the puck through the goalmouth to a hard-charging Yakupov, who put the puck in the net before Sharks goalie Antti Niemi could get across the crease. It was the first NHL goal for Yakupov, who was drafted first overall in last summers 2012 Entry Draft by the Oilers. San Jose quickly restored its two-goal lead halfway through the first as Thorntons no-look pass from behind the net found Marleau, who sent home his third goal of the season. Just over a minute later it was a 4-1 game for the Sharks as Marleau scored high to the glove side on a quick shot from the slot on another power play with Thornton picking up his third assist of the game. The first period pounding wasnt over yet, however. San Jose added two more goals to make it 6-1 after 20 minutes as Couture scored his second of the game on a rebound with just under two minutes left and Vlasic scored on a screened point shot with 40 seconds remaining. San Jose out-shot Edmonton 17-7 in the first. Backup goalie Yann Danis started the second in the Oilers net. Edmonton got a goal back on a two-man advantage of its own with five minutes left in the second as Schultz, a player the Oilers acquired as a free agent after a league-wide bidding war last summer, scored his first NHL goal to make it 6-2. The shots closed to 26-24 Sharks after the second period. Edmonton cut the lead in half three and a half minutes into the third as Hall sent a quick wrist shot while double-teamed that beat Niemi high to the glove side. Both teams are back in action on Thursday as the Oilers remain at home to face the defending Stanley Cup champion L.A. Kings, while the Sharks return to San Jose for their home-opener against the Phoenix Coyotes. Notes: The Oilers came into the game 3-0 in home-openers against the San Jose Sharks, winning in 1993, 2003 and 2008. They were also 19-8-5 in their first home game of the season all-timea It was the first of three meetings between the two teams this season, having split the four-game series last year, with each game decided by one goala The Sharks entered the contest having won 11 of the last 15 meetings against Edmonton overall and have taken seven of nine at Rexall Placea Oiler forward Ben Eager missed the game, still suffering the ill effects of a fight in the first outing in Vancouver. Magnus Paajarvi took his place in the lineupa The Oilers were also missing defenseman Andy Sutton (knee) and Theo Peckham (hip flexor), forward Ryan Jones (eye) and goalie Nikolai Khabibulin (hip)a Absent from the Sharks lineup were forward Jason Demers (wrist injury) and defenseman (hernia surgery)a Free agent forward Scott Gomez continues to skate with the Sharks but no contract had been signed with San Jose as of game time. Gomez, who posted just two goals and nine assists in 38 games with Montreal last season, was bought out by the Canadiens last week. [url=http://www.ramsofficialteamstore.com/]St. Louis Rams Jersey . LOUIS -- The St. . And the 25-year-old wing/centre from Oakville, Ont., is fitting in nicely in the top level of English rugby, having scored two tries already for the newly promoted club. The Spaniards gave the Americans a fight they had not run into in London right from the opening whistle. Early in the game, it was all Juan-Carlos Navarro for Spain, as the streaky gunner went off for 14 points over the opening 10 minutes. . The Laval linebacker, taken 10th overall in last weeks CFL draft by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, has been invited to the Philadelphia Eagles rookie minicamp.SAINT-DENIS, France -- Franck Ribery scored a well-taken goal and helped create the other two as France beat Belarus 3-1 in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday. Midfielder Etienne Capoue and right back Christophe Jallet earned their first international goals as France followed up Fridays 1-0 win in Finland with an encouraging performance ahead of next months crucial match away to European and World Cup champion Spain. "Spain remains the group favourite, but its better to go there with six points," Deschamps said. "Every point counts in a group like this, believe me." After Anton Putilo pulled a goal back to give Belarus hope, Ribery charged forward down the left, collected a deft pass inside from Karim Benzema, and coolly clipped the ball over goalkeeper Sergei Veremko in the 80th minute. "Its rare to score three goals at the highest level these days, so well savour it," Deschamps said. "We created a lot of chances so it was a bit frustrating to go into the break at 0-0. It was hard to score against them because they had three centre halves, but there was more and more space as the match went on." Although Frances strikers failed to score for the sixth consecutive match, the partnership of Benzema and Olivier Giroud looked promising and Giroud went close in the first half. "It was important for us to win tonight," Ribery said. "I was happy to score the third goal, but the whole team played well." Belarus looked nervous early on, twice hacking the ball away from danger, but France was wasteful until Capoue settled nerves with a cool finish in the 49th, and Jallet looked just as surprised as his teammates when his intended cross from the right looped in off the post in the 68th. But with France in control, centre half Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa carelessly gave a penalty away just minutes later. Yanga-Mbiwa picked up his second strraight yellow card after also being booked against Finland and will miss the Spain game through suspension. [url=http://www.ramsofficialteamstore.com/autographed-jo-lonn-dunbar-jersey-dr-8... Dunbar Jersey. . Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris did well to save Sergei Kornilenkos firmly struck spot-kick. Putilo followed up to bury the rebound, even though Lloris almost kept that one out, too. Girouds presence was a major headache for the Belarus defence, and he almost got on the end of Riberys cross from the right in the 27th after earlier forcing Veremko into a fine save with a powerful glancing header. Belarus, which had beaten France 1-0 two years ago in a Euro 2012 qualifier, hardly ventured forward and got its first corner in the 32nd. Benzemas deflected free kick was close in the 37th and Mamadou Sakho should have done better from the resulting corner when he headed straight at Veremko from close range. Although the Stade de France crowd did its best to get behind the players, there were some jeers at halftime. Belarus almost stunned France straight after the break when Stanislav Dragan cut inside Jallet and hit a firm shot that forced Lloris into a superb one-handed save. From the corner, Dragan headed wide with the goal at his mercy. France then took command. Ribery finally made his perseverance count as France charged up the other end, and after some sloppy defending, he was given time to pick out Capoue, who slotted the ball into the bottom left corner. "I thought he played really well. He took a lot of risks and put a lot of effort in," Deschamps said. "The goal he scored was decisive." Ribery was also involved in the second goal, when his astute pass picked out Jallet as he sprinted forward. Jallets cross was intended for Benzema but he hit it so strongly that it went over Veremkos head and in. "Of course he meant to score," Deschamps said, joking. "But its true that we played with a lot of spontaneity." ' ' '
