Brett Ritchie bolstered his case for inclusion on Canadas world junior team with a physically-dominating performance on Tuesday night in the Red-White intra-squad game. . These types of scrimmages can be difficult for players, who dont want to risk hurting their potential teammates and, as result, may let up a bit. However, Ritchie, a towering Dallas Stars prospect, didnt seem bothered by the proposition. His huge hit on defenceman Mathew Dumba in the second period elicited a gasp from the fans in attendance. “I just sort of caught him,” said Ritchie, who stands 6-foot-4, weighing in at 218 pounds. “I dont think he expected me to finish my check there. He didnt really see me coming. I dont know what the deal was, but I just tried to lay into him." "That was probably the main thing I wanted to focus on tonight, you got to finish all your checks." Ritchie, who is tied for the OHL lead in goals with 27 in 32 games with the Niagara IceDogs, also showcased his offensive talents. He assisted on Team Whites only goal and was also the only one of five shooters to beat Jordan Binnington in the shootout. Ritchies blend of size and skill earned high marks from the man who will name Canadas final roster on Thursday night. “He was great,” said head coach Steve Spott. “Of all the players up front, hes probably the guy that really stood out in a lot of different ways. I thought he was physical on the puck, got pucks to the net. Brett played a real strong game. He used his size to his advantage, which was great.” LIPON: NO REGRETS ABOUT RUN-IN WITH STROME Ritchie wasnt the only player showing some grit on Tuesday. JC Lipon, passed over in the last NHL draft, but lighting it up with the Kamloops Blazers this season, got into a shoving match with Ryan Strome in the second period. In a regular game that wouldnt be of note, but in an intra-squad affair it stood out. “He made me look [a bit silly with] a little outside, inside [move] so I gave him a little tap," said Lipon. "Its part of the game.” Lipon wasnt going to back down simply because Strome, the CHLs leading scorer with 62 points in 32 games with Niagara this season, is one of six returning players at the camp and a lock to make the team again. “I cant really take anyone lightly,” said Lipon, one of only five undrafted players at the camp. “Theres a level of respect, but, Im going to play hard on everyone. It was just a little shoving match. It was nothing. Well probably go say, ‘Hi, to each other at dinner after this." “When youre out there, theres no friends, youre trying to show your stuff.” PATERSON WISHES HE DID HIS HOMEWORK Saginaw Spirit goalie Jake Paterson stopped all 10 shots he faced in regulation and added four saves in the shootout, but it was the one goal he allowed, to Jonathan Huberdeau in the shootout, that was the most memorable play he was involved in. “No, I havent,” the Red Wings prospect said when asked if he had ever seen anything like Huberdeaus deke before. “I probably shouldve looked up some video on what he was going to pull. It was a nice move and he got me so hopefully Ill get him next time.” But Paterson wasnt going to beat himself up over the play. After all, theres a reason why Huberdeau has scored 104 goals in 195 games with Saint John in the QMJHL and was picked third overall by the Florida Panthers at the 2011 NHL draft. “Hes got quick hands and he can pretty much do whatever he wants with the puck," said Paterson. "I was aware of that, but he was able to sneak it by me there.” [url=http://www.buccaneersofficialteamstore.com/autographed-doug-martin-jersey-h... The NHL closed its doors at midnight Saturday and there were no formal talks between the league and its players in the final three days before the previous agreement expired.ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Long after practice began, Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Richard Seymour and five of his injured teammates -- including four projected starters -- slowly made their way out to watch the workout. The debate over whether any of the six will play in Thursdays preseason finale in Seattle has morphed into concern about their availability for the season opener against San Diego on Sept. 10. Seymour, who turns 33 in October, is nursing tendinitis in his knees. Center Stefen Wisniewski (calf) and wide receivers Denarius Moore (hamstring) and Jacoby Ford (ankle) have also been out while linebacker Aaron Curry has been on the physically unable to perform list since camp began. Reserve cornerback Pat Lee recently joined the walking wounded with a sore back. That list doesnt include kicker Sebastian Janikowski, who injured his groin on a kickoff last week in Arizona. Janikowski has been cleared to practice but the Raiders (tied for No. 23 in the AP Pro32) say they might be tempted to hold him out the remainder of the preseason. Oakland coach Dennis Allen has not ruled any of the other six out for the opener, but the team signed return specialist Roscoe Parrish on Tuesday and will have him returning punts against the Seahawks. "Were watching the waiver wires to see if theres anybody that we feel (has) a chance to help us," Allen said. "Well get a chance to get (Parrish) out there to return some kicks on Thursday night and see what weve got." Parrish joined the Raiders one day after getting released by San Diego. He had signed a one-year contract with the Chargers in the off-season but was buried on the depth chart at receiver and lost out to Michael Spurlock in the battle for punt return duties. With Oakland, Parrish will handle the punt return chores until Ford or Moore returns. A second-round pick for Buffalo in 2005, Parrish led the NFL in punt return average in 2007 (16.3) and 08 (15.3), becoming the first player in league history to do so in consecutive seasons. "I actually wokke up as a Charger and went to sleep as a Raider," said Parrish, who missed all but two games in 2011 after suffering a season-ending ankle injury in a Week 2 loss to Oakland. [url=http://www.buccaneersofficialteamstore.com/autographed-chas-henry-jersey-yu... Henry Jersey. "Coming over here when they need a returner is a good feeling because thats what I do. Im not going to take anything for granted ... but I look forward to being in that black and silver." Parrishs signing fills an immediate need but the rest of the Raiders injury situation remains clouded. Moore, who caught 33 passes as a rookie last season when he was quarterback Carson Palmers favourite deep threat, missed most of training camp after injuring his hamstring in practice. Ford, limited to eight games in 2011 with an ankle injury, only recently got out of a walking boot after getting hurt against Arizona on Aug. 17. That opened the door for rookie receivers Juron Criner and Rod Streater to get increased reps in practice but it has also hurt the timing of the rest of the offence. "We need a ton of work together," Palmer said. "When theyre back, its not easy to get off the couch or get out of a walking boot or off crutches or whatever it may be and just show up and play. This league is way too good." Wisniewski has already been declared out for the preseason finale in Seattle, as has Curry. The veteran linebacker underwent a stem cell procedure on his knees in the off-season and spent a week in Los Angeles during training camp getting additional treatment but has yet to be cleared to practice. If he is still on the PUP list as of Friday, Curry would have to sit out the first six weeks of the regular season. Seymour, coming off his seventh Pro Bowl season, has missed Oaklands last two preseason games while resting sore knees. Allen originally said Seymour had arthritis in his knees but later changed it to tendinitis. "Its just something well have to manage as we go throughout the season," Allen said. To clear room on the roster for Parrish, the Raiders waived/injured offensive lineman Zach Hurd. ' ' '
