Wimbledon, England (Sports Network) - Reigning champion Novak Djokovic and six-time winner Roger Federer will duel in Fridays mens semifinals at Wimbledon, where British hopeful Andy Murray also advanced on Wednesday. . The world No. 1 Djokovic cruised past 31st-seeded German Florian Mayer 6-4, 6-1, 6-4 on Court 1, while the third-seeded former top-ranked great Federer carved up 26th-seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in 92 minutes in quarterfinal action Wednesday on Centre Court at the famed All England Club. Both matches were interrupted by a brief rain delay. And a fourth-seeded Murray snuck past seventh-seeded Spanish star David Ferrer 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in the nightcap on Centre Court. Djokovic disposed of Mayer in 1 hour, 45 minutes, striking seven aces and breaking his German counterpart five times, compared to only one break for Mayer. The Serbian star tallied 36 more winners (50-14) on Day 9. "Ive been playing really well, constantly well, from the start of the tournament," Djokovic said. "And I hope to continue that way." Mayer was appearing in his second Wimbledon quarterfinal (0-2), with his first one coming in his first appearance here back in 2004. The 25-year-old Djokovic is now 32-1 over his last five majors and 44-2 over his last seven Grand Slams. He reached his first-ever Wimbledon final and captured his first-ever title here with a victory over Rafael Nadal a year ago and has won four of the last six major finals overall. The reigning Wimbledon, Australian Open and U.S. Open titlist will play in his 16th career Grand Slam semifinal (8-7), including his ninth straight. Federer, meanwhile, played in front of British royalty -- Prince William and his wife Kate -- as well as some tennis royalty -- Andre Agassi and his fellow racquet legend wife Steffi Graf and the great Rod Laver. "I think it helps when royalty shows up, and other legends of the game come and see me play," Federer said. "Its inspiring." The 30-year-old Federer held his serve throughout while breaking the helpless Youzhny six times in the rout. Federer is now 14-0 against Youzhny. "My game maybe suits up well against his," Federer said. The two-time U.S. Open semifinalist Youzhny was playing in his first-ever Wimbledon quarter. He learned just hours before playing Federer on Wednesday that his wife had given birth to their second son. Federer, who reached seven straight Wimbledon finals from 2003-09, is still seeking his first Grand Slam title since the 2010 Aussie Open. In addition to his six titles here, Federer was the 2008 Wimbledon runner- up to Nadal. Federer will appear in a record 32nd Grand Slam semifinal, as he passed Jimmy Connors for that distinction on Wednesday. And only Connors (84) and Boris Becker (71) have won more matches than Federer (64) on the hallowed lawns in this London suburb. Djokovic and Federer will meet for a 27th time, but, remarkably, it will mark only their first-ever Wimbledon matchup. The Swiss icon leads their all-time series, 14-12, but the Serb has won six of the last seven. Theyve split 10 career Grand Slam meetings. "Its always a pleasure playing against Roger," Djokovic said. "Obviously hes a great champion. He has been so dominant and consistent in these Grand Slams, and hes really an ultimate challenge on grass courts." "A nice matchup," Federer said. "Obviously Im aware that Novak is the defending champion and the world No. 1. Thats not going to make it easy." The other quality semi will pit Murray against fifth-seeded French slugger Jo- Wilfried Tsonga. Murray and Ferrer were also forced to wait out a rain delay, with the two men tied at 5-5 in the fourth set. After Ferrer took the tight first set via tiebreak, Murray, who trailed by a set and 3-5, fought his way back into the match in the second. Murray broke Ferrer while the Spaniard was serving for a two-sets-to-love lead at 5-4 in the second. The stanza eventually went to a tiebreak, which Murray won to level the match and whip the British faithful into a frenzy. In the third set, Murray broke for a 5-4 lead and consolidated the break with a hold in the next to game to take a two-sets-to-one lead. The fourth set was not much unlike the first three. Tight. Following a brief rain delay after the 10th game in the stanza, Murray crossed the finish line three games later in another tiebreak, converting on his first match point with a resounding ace. The Dunblane, Scotland native moved on in 3 hours, 52 minutes, ripping 18 aces and tallying one more break (3-2) than Ferrer on Day 9. Murray is now 6-5 lifetime against his good friend Ferrer, who upended the Scot in the French Open quarterfinals last month. The three-time Grand Slam runner-up Murray is trying to become the first British man to reach a Wimbledon final since 1938. The last British male to capture the title here was Fred Perry in 1936. The 25-year-old Murray will appear in a fourth straight Wimbledon and 10th career major semifinal. Tsonga, meanwhile, held off 27th-seeded German Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 on Court 1. The popular Frenchman needed 2 hours, 48 minutes to advance, which he did with the help of 17 aces and three breaks. The capable Kohlschreiber cracked 10 aces and broke Tsonga on two occasions in a losing effort. The 27-year-old Tsonga will appear in his second straight Wimbledon and fourth career Grand Slam semifinal. Murray is 5-1 lifetime against Tsonga, including a quarterfinal victory at Wimbledon two years ago. [url=http://www.lionsofficialteamstore.com/autographed-ndamukong-suh-jersey-qo-4... His speed is what makes the Pittsburgh Pirates centre fielder one of the most dynamic players in baseball. . The 6-foot-1 Machado played well on the Rockets summer league team, averaging 8.0 points, a team-high 5.6 assists and 2.The three greatest homegrown position players in Blue Jays history are generally regarded to be Tony Fernandez, Shawn Green and Carlos Delgado, with honourable mention to Lloyd Moseby and Jesse Barfield. Its interesting to pinpoint, when they actually made their first significant impact with the club. Green had brief stints with the club in 1993 and 1994 and had a pretty decent year in 95 at age 22, with a .288 average, 15 homers and 54 RBIs. However his first great year was 1998 at age 25 when he batted .278 with 35 homers and 100 runs batted in. For Delgado, it all came together in 1996 though he had a taste of the Majors each of the three previous seasons. Delgado hit .270 in 1996 with 25 homers and 92 runs batted in at age 24. Fernandez played 103 games for the Jays over 1983-84 at ages 21 and 22. But in 1985, the year of the Jays first division title, he really blossomed. Fernandez played 161 games at age 23 and hit .289 while delivering spectacular defence. I guess the point is, you can expect too much, too soon unless you get one of those rare gems, like Mike Trout or Bryce Harper. Brett Lawries numbers this year arent nearly as impressive as a year ago, when he broke in at third base at age 21, played 43 games, hit nine homers and drove in 25 runs and looked like one of the best defensive shortstops in the Majors. This year at 22 hes been suspended and hes been injured, yet hes still batting .273 with 11 homers and 48 RBIs and hes still playing that lights-out defence at third. In all, over 165 games Lawrie already has more homers and runs batted in at age 22 than Green and Delgado did at the same age. More than Fernandez too for that matter, but he was more of a slashing line drive hitter. What Im saying is, the best of Lawrie may be yet to come in the next year or two if he trends the way Green, Delgado and Fernandez did. Adeiny Hechavarria is another interesting case. [url=http://www.lionsofficialteamstore.com/autographed-nick-fairley-jersey-kb-14... Fairley Jersey. The Jays landed him by outbidding the Yankees and others in 2010. The raw but talented young Cuban signed a four-year deal on April 3, 2010 worth $10 million. This year hes finally made it to the "bigs" at age 23. A natural shortstop who was projected by some to be a centre fielder in the future, he mainly played second and third base since joining the Jays because of the presence of Yunel Escobar. Hechavarria looks every bit the gold glove defensive prospect hes been touted as and hes started to come on at the plate the last few weeks. With all the promise Anthony Gose and Moises Sierra have shown, the one youngster who looks like a lock to stick next season is Hechavarria, especially since hes heading into the final year of his contract. The Blue Jays main team goal, over the final three games against Minnesota at Rogers Centre is to avoid 90 losses and stay out of the basement in the AL East. If they finish ahead of Boston, it would be the first last place finish for the Red Sox since 1992, the year the Jays won their first World Series. I mentioned a couple of columns ago that the Jays didnt have a 10-game winner this season. They still dont after Ricky Romero and Henderson Alvarez got no decisions against the Yankees over the weekend. 1979 was the one and only season in 35 years that the Jays didnt have a 10-game winner. The only hurler with a chance to hit 10 now is Brandon Morrow on the final night of the season against the Twins on Wednesday. Its unbelievable with just three days left in the season, not one division title or Wild Card seeding in the American League has been settled. It will practically take a miracle, but wouldnt it be something if Tampa Bay forced a sudden death game on the final night of the season and then won that game to get into the ALDS once more? Heres hoping. ' ' '
