Austin Kennedy threw six touchdowns as the No. 10 Windsor Lancers hammered the Ottawa Gee Gees 63-18 in Canadian University Sports football action Monday. Kennedy found Jordan Brescacin in the end zone three times, including a 55-yard strike to open the scoring less than five minutes into the first quarter. Evan Pszczonak, Mark Riggi and Dylan Whitfield also had receiving touchdowns for Windsor, while Gilbert Stewart and Mitch Dender added scores in the ground. Elsewhere, McMaster routed Guelph 50-9, Western thumped Waterloo 54-10, Queens cruised past York 48-13, and Toronto shutout Laurier 19-0. At Windsor, Ont., Brescacin finished with 214 receiving yards for Windsor (1-0), while Pszczonak added 129. Mack Tommy and Franck Ngandui had rushing touchdowns for Ottawa (0-1). No. 1 McMaster 50 Guelph 9 At Hamilton, Kyle Quinlan threw three touchdown passes as the 2011 national champion Marauders (1-0) rolled up more than 500 yards in offence while thrashing the Gryphons (0-1). With McMaster leading 2-0 on a safety, Guelph posted the first major of the game when Lindsay connected with Michael Fortino on a 62-yard strike midway through the first quarter handing the Gryphons an early 7-2 lead. That would be the only major Guelph would muster as the Marauders would dominate both offensively and defensively from that point on. --- No. 5 Western 54 Waterloo 10 At Waterloo, Ont., Garret Sanvido rushed for three touchdowns and brother Justin Sanvido hauled in two more through the air as the Mustangs (1-0) dumped the Warriors (0-1). --- No. 6 Queens 48 York 13 At Kingston, Ont., Ryan Granberg rushed for 149 yards and three touchdowns and Alex Carroll returned a punt 79 yards for a TD for the Gaels (1-0), who cruised by the Lions (0-1). "For now, this is our only chance," said coach Glenn Hoag as he prepared to lead his squad into the six-day NORCECA (North America, Central America and the Caribbean) event. To win that coveted berth, theyll have to get past Cuba and the United States, both well ahead of 18th-seeded Canada in the rankings. But Hoag says they feel good about their chances. "I think the group is ready to challenge those big names like Cuba and the USA," he said. "We can challenge anybody at all positions now. Were really stable that way, which wasnt the case in the past." Canada is in Pool A with Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Pool B includes the host Americans, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and Costa Rica. The U.S. also still needs to qualify for the Olympics. But the U.S. mens team has managed to do that for the past three Olympics at the NORCECA tournament. Cuba is ranked fifth and the United States sixth. A Canadian mens team hasnt played at the Olympics since the 1992 Games in BBarcelona.dddddddddddd "Really its about the last two matches of the qualifier . . . but first weve got to make it out of the pool," said Hoag. He liked the way Canada matched up against Cuba last year at the NORCECA tournament, although they ended up losing 3-2. "We match up pretty good against them. We havent played the U.S. in a few years but theyve lost some key players, well see." He said they will have to scout the U.S. team when they get to Long Beach, where the tournament is being held. "We have a fairly young team. We only have a few veterans but its the same young team that played against Cuba last year." There are only a handful of veterans left like libero Dan Lewis, left side Fred Winters and middle Steve Brinkman. While Hoag says it looks like one of Canadas best chances to qualify in years, with such a young squad theyre also looking towards the Pan American Games in Toronto and the 2016 Olympics. With players just coming out of their pro leagues to rejoin the squad, he says they havent had a chance to play in any matches. But other teams face similar problems. ' ' '
