TORONTO -- Andre Durie was playing pee-wee football when he watched his first live Toronto Argonauts game. "We had our championship game here and we all got invited to the Argos game afterwards," the now 31-year-old Durie recalled Friday. "It was something that was immense. "I got to meet Pinball (Clemons) and that was my first love and made me want to continue playing football. He took my hat and passed it around so it got signed by the whole team. It was awesome." Clemons is a former star receiver and kick returner who won three Grey Cups as player and another as coach of the Argonauts, so it was a big day for Mississauga, Ont., native Durie. He will get his own chance to win a Grey Cup on Sunday when Toronto plays host to the Calgary Stampeders in the 100th CFL championship game. As for Clemons, perhaps the most popular Argo of all time, he turned up at the end of practice at Rogers Centre to give the team a pep talk. "Anything he can say to give us motivation to stay on the task is much needed," added Durie, a versatile slotback now in his sixth season as an Argonaut. Duries value is enhanced by being a Canadian in a skill position, which lets coach Scott Milanovich dress an extra American player. And motivation shouldnt be a problem for any of Torontos local players, including Duries former York University teammate Ricky Foley at defensive end or fullback Jeff Johnson, who played for the Yeomen in the 1990s. Durie calls this Grey Cup "the biggest game in Canadian history." Milanovich calls Durie a "unique player" because he can contribute in many ways, including running the ball, darting out on short or long routes and blocking in the backfield. In that sense, hes something like CFL Outstanding Player and fellow slotback Chad Owens. And it turns out that the much-travelled Owens and his family are living this season at Duries suburban home, making for a lively household of four adults and four children. "We dont talk a lot of football -- its our time to get away and enjoy our families," father-of-three Owens said of the arrangement. "We watch some film, but its not all day talking about football. "We come home and enjoy our kids. Its been a blessing this year." Owens gets most of the attention among the Argonauts receiving corps, which is natural after leading the league in receiving yards with 1,328. Durie missed four games with an injury, but still caught 71 passes for 845 yards. "Andres an under-rated player in this league," added Owens. "If he didnt have injuries, he could have been up for Canadian of the year. "Hes Mister Utility. He can do everything that I can, better in some things. Thats why we get along well. We live together. Were very similar family men. And we love what we do." Durie acknowledges that Owens is the star, but doesnt feel the rest of the receivers are overlooked. "People might have a misconception that were a one-man team," he said. "But the more people focus on one guy, the more it gives us the opportunity to make plays. "We have a lot of playmakers on our team: Mo Mann, Jason Barnes, Dontrelle Inman, Chad Kackert. Its hard to focus on one person." Johnson has also made versatility his trademark. Once a promising running back, hes used mostly for blocking at fullback and plays on special teams. "Im a tailback at heart," he said. "Absolutely, I want to carry the ball, but thats not what the teams asked me to do. "They ask me to make some plays on offence and to lead the special teams. And thats something Im proud of." Johnson, safety Jordan Younger and kicker Noel Prefontaine were all Argonauts the last time they won the Cup in 2004, with Clemons as coach. His message to teammates is much like Pinballs seize the day speech. "The fact that in 13 years Ive only been to the Grey Cup one other time, thats what I talk about," he said. "Some of the young guys may think theyll get another opportunity but no, you may never get one. "This is the peak. Winning the Grey Cup. You need to make the best of those opportunities. Youre creating a lifetime memory." The Argonauts were without defensive tackle Adriano Belli for a second straight day with what Milanovich called a "stomach bug," but he is expected to be fit to play. Kevin Huntley has taken his place in practice. But gifted defensive back Patrick Watkins will likely be a game-time decision due to a left ankle injury, as he was before he sat out the East Division final in Montreal, when rookie Jalil Carter took his spot. "If Im 90 per cent I could play pretty good," said Watkins. "Of course I want to bounce back but it aint responding like I hoped. "But weve still got a few days. Im running, which is a great start. I can move sideways again. Ive got to get up to where Im fast enough to keep up with the receivers." cheap jerseys china . Dallas Ehrhardt, Caleb Belter, Brett Roulston and Colin Jacobs had the other goals for Prince George (5-1-1). Erricson also added an assist. For the first two years after he joined the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007, he was more of a brand than a player, his impact at Americas cash registers far greater than any transformation on the field. wholesale nfl jerseys . That talk became reality on Monday night. Anderson scored 22 points, Lopez tied a season high with 21 and New Orleans won for only the second time in 11 games, 102-81 over the Milwaukee Bucks. "We needed an effort game and we needed to prove to ourselves that when we play like that we can beat a team by a big margin," said Anderson, who like Lopez was a young role player on his former team before coming to New Orleans last summer in a trade.MISSISSAUGA, Ont. -- Emanuel Sandhu said he learned one of his best life lessons from a choreographer on the reality TV show "So You Think You Can Dance Canada." The 32-year-old from Richmond Hill, Ont., is staging a comeback after six years away from figure skating, and received a standing ovation for his ninth-place performance in the mens short program at the Canadian championships Friday night. Sandhu, a three-time Canadian champion, said hes in a better place than he was when he walked away from skating frustrated and lacking all love for the sport in 2007. The skater who said he spent his life running away from a "crusty childhood" said a few words from a perceptive Mia Michaels -- a renowned dance choreographer -- helped set him in the right direction. "She pulled me aside and said, Theres beauty in darkness so dont be afraid to embrace that. Its one of the best lessons Ive ever learned because its easy to shuck those things off and be flippant about it, Ive done it before," said Sandhu, who finished third among the men on "So You Think You Can Dance." "Thats the only maybe I would tell my younger self, embrace it, its not a bad thing." His comeback, he said, is a way of reaching back and "getting in touch with the younger me, and not just the skater ... Again this is about me turning around and facing my demons and all that darkness. We all have that. And owning it instead of running away, because you can use it." Sandhu skated to an old program from 2000 to Albinonis "Adagio in G Minor" that hed tweaked to conform with the new skating rules. He wore a gauzy grey costume that he puulled out of his closet.dddddddddddd "Isnt it amazing it still fits me, 15 years later?" he said. "I like to keep all my costumes, its kind of like an archive for me." He scored 60.42 points for his program that included two triples, but no quads nor a triple Axel. He said he hasnt had enough time to prepare to land those jumps in competition. The Hershey Centre crowd didnt seem to care, cheering him on as he stepped on the ice. "Its like everything that I live for, Im a true performer at heart," he said. "The audience was amazing, I couldnt have asked for anything better." Sandhu was known as much for what most saw as unfulfilled potential as his talent on the ice. He won the Grand Prix Final in 2004, defeating Russian world great Evgeni Plushenko. The Canadian was one of just two skaters -- the other was Brian Joubert -- to beat Plushenko between 2002 and 06. But on the Olympic stage, he had to withdraw from the 2002 Salt Lake Games with an injury then was a disappointing 13th at the 2006 Games. He shared few details about what hes been doing since 2007, except to say hed worked as a landscaper one summer and performed in some skating shows. He said he also deleted any social media presence. "Some people go backpacking through India, I just needed to keep out all external voices and stuff like that and really feel what I wanted to do, what Im about, what makes me tick," he said. As for his comeback, Sandhu, whos been training without a coach at an arena in Burnaby, B.C., is not sure how far hell continue. "For me right now, I have to get through this week, and then re-assess." ' ' '
