Rome, Italy (Sports Network) - World No. 1 and defending champion Novak Djokovic and five-time winner Rafael Nadal were a pair of third-round victors Thursday at the $3.145 million Italian Open -- the fifth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event of the year. Djokovic fought back to beat 14th-seeded Juan Monaco 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 amid windy conditions on the red clay at Foro Italico. The super Serb needed 2 hours, 20 minutes to get past his gritty Argentine counterpart at this quality French Open tune-up. The two-time Italian Open champion Djokovic beat Nadal in last years finale here. It was Nadals first loss in his sixth Rome final. Djokovic was the 2009 runner-up to Nadal. Meanwhile, a second-seeded world No. 3 Nadal blitzed helpless fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers 6-1, 6-1 in 1 hour, 28 minutes on Thursday. The six-time French Open champion Nadal has won five of the last seven Italian Open titles, including two straight before he lost to Djokovic in last years marquee finale. Up next for Nadal will be last weeks Madrid Masters runner-up to Roger Federer, Tomas Berdych. An upset came when 16th-seeded nifty Frenchman Richard Gasquet overcame fourth-seeded Brit Andy Murray 6-7 (1-7), 6-3, 6-2. Clay is the three-time Grand Slam runner-up Murrays worst surface. Meanwhile, sixth-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer doused 11th-seeded Frenchman Gilles Simon 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) and a seventh-seeded Berdych handled 12th-seeded Spaniard Nicolas Almagro 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. Ferrer was the 2010 Rome runner-up to his fellow countryman Nadal. Ferrer will face Gasquet in the round of eight. Hot Italian favorite Andreas Seppi drove out Swiss slugger Stan Wawrinka 6-7 (1-7), 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (8-6) in 3 hours, 21 minutes. Wawrinka fired 14 aces in a losing effort. Seppi titled on clay in Belgrade just two weeks ago. The 2012 Rome champ will earn $595,000. Cheap Jerseys . Antrel Rolle intercepted two passes by Alex Smith, Prince Amukamara picked off another and the Giants shut down San Francisco in a 26-3 victory over the 49ers on Sunday in a rematch of last seasons NFC championship game. After outscoring the Bills and Jets by a combined 79-3 the last two weeks, the 49ers (4-2) met their match again with Eli Manning and New Yorks top team. No overtime needed this time, and not much of Manning either. Manning threw for 193 yards and one touchdown, Ahmad Bradshaw ran for 116 yards and a score and New York (4-2) rode a dominant defence and four fields by Lawrence Tynes to hand outspoken 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh the most lopsided loss of his tenure. What a San Francisco treat. The Giants grinded out a 20-17 overtime win at rain-soaked Candlestick Park on Jan. 22, capitalizing on two fumbles by fill-in returner Kyle Williams en route to another Super Bowl title over the Patriots. All week some San Francisco players talked about "unfinished business," and Harbaugh added to the hype when he fired back a strongly worded statement criticizing Giants offensive co-ordinator Kevin Gilbride for saying All-Pro defensive end Justin Smith often "gets away with murder" holding linemen. For all the hoopla, the rematch was never close. Amukamaras interception in the second quarter started a surge of New York offence. Smith, who wore tape around his sprained middle finger, lofted the pass too high and allowed Amukamara to leap underneath the ball before tight end Delanie Walker even had a chance at the Giants 33. At one point in the first half, Manning completed eight consecutive passes for 142 yards and had the usually stout San Francisco defence out of sorts. Domenik Hixon caught passes of 39 and 16 yards on consecutive third downs, and Victor Cruz followed with a 6-yard touchdown catch and his usual salsa dance in the end zone to give the Giants a 7-3 lead in the second quarter. New Yorks next drive stalled and Tynes kicked a 34-yard field goal to go ahead 10-3. Tarell Brown blocked a 40-yard attempt by Tynes, San Francisco took over with 8 seconds left before half and wildcat quarterbback Colin Kaepernick completed a 36-yard pass to Mario Manningham — the former Giant — before David
