The San Jose Sharks have signed defenceman Brad Stuart to a three-year, $10.8 million contract. The Detroit Red Wings traded Stuart - who was a potential unrestricted free agent - to San Jose last week in exchange for forward Andrew Murray and a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2014. Stuart played more short-handed minutes than any other Red Wings defender this past season. San Jose had the second-worst penalty-kill unit this season. Stuart, 32, was drafted third overall by San Jose in 1998 before being traded to Boston on Nov. 30, 2005, along with Marco Sturm and Wayne Primeau for current Sharks captain Joe Thornton. He had six goals and 15 assists in 81 games last season. He had a plus-16 rating and led the Red Wings in hits with 177 and was second in blocked shots with 115. Stuart has played in 876 career games in 13 seasons with San Jose, Boston, Calgary, Los Angeles and Detroit, recording 74 goals, 231 assists and 489 penalty minutes. Hes also added nine goals and 28 assists in 124 career playoff games. [url=http://www.thunderteamofficialshop.com/]http://www.thunderteamofficialshop.... ." Torrealba, who was designated for assignment on July 31, will become a free agent on Friday if he is not claimed off waivers. The 34-year-old Venezuelan backstop batted .LONDON - Simon Whitfield is standing up for teammate Paula Findlay at the Olympics. Whitfield is critical of how Findlays hip injury was handled heading into the womens triathlon race Saturday. Findlay crossed the line in 52nd, in tears and apologizing to Canadians for her performance. Findlay was a gold-medal favourite until injuring her hip just over a year ago. Whitfield says the staff around Findlay should be held accountable for mishandling that injury and Findlays preparation in the months leading up to the Games. "Shes not a wind-up toy that you just send off," he said Sunday prior to swim training. The four-time Olympian and winner of both gold and silver medals during his career singled out Findlays coach Patrick Kelly, Own The Podium high performance advisor Debbie Muir and sport science specialist Dr. David Smith. "It was completely mismanaged," Whitfield said. "Im not saying people should be fired. "Im just saying they should stand up and say thats on me. Because it was all on Paula yesterday. We all saw it. "I want Doc Smith and Patrick and Debbie Muir to step up and say I endorsed that plan. She was injured for a year. She did what I told her to do and in the end, it failed. Have the courage to say yesterdays result is on me." Findlay hadnt raced internationally in a year heading into Saturdays event. The Edmonton athlete and KKelly parted company in June, just weeks before the Games.dddddddddddd Findlay trained with Whitfield and his coach Jon Brown during the final phase of her training. Whitfield, from Kingston, Ont., Victorias Brent McMahon and Kyle Jones of Oakville, Ont., race the mens triathlon Tuesday. Triathlon president Alan Trivett is concerned Whitfields comments will be a distraction for his teammates, but he agreed mistakes were made by Findlays team. "I want everyone to wear it, including me," he said. "Through this period of time, since June of 11, weve struggled to get Paula into the top mode she was in the first part of 2011." He pointed out that Findlays hip didnt hamper her race, but it was a lack of training time to get race fit. Findlay was named to the Olympic triathlon team last November, so she wouldnt have to chase qualifying spots and could take time to recover. Trivett said Findlay was "a terrible patient" in that she wouldnt back off of training to heal and had re-lapses. Whitfield takes issue with that, saying others were overseeing her training program. "Debbie Muir endorsed it, Doc Smith endorsed it," he countered. "They just kept driving the car back into a brick wall. "When it broke, they said shes difficult, shes really hard to work with. Shes the same person they celebrated two years ago." ' ' '
