OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs doesnt intend to let a torn right biceps keep him out of Sundays game against the Washington Redskins. "We kind of live by the creed of, if you can breathe then you can play," Suggs said Wednesday. "We just got to check it out. We got to see how it holds up throughout the week. (It will) definitely be a game-time decision on Sunday." The injury occurred last weekend in the fourth quarter of a 23-20 loss to Pittsburgh. Another injured Ravens linebacker, Ray Lewis, returned to practice Wednesday -- the next stage of the 37-year-olds attempt to come back from a tore right triceps. Lewis was hurt Oct. 14 against Dallas and placed on injured reserve, designated for return. "Im making progress and will practice some today," Lewis said in a statement. "But the story shouldnt be about me right now. Were playing the Redskins Sunday, and I am not eligible to play. If I can help prepare my team in some way for that game, I will. When I know I will play in a game, or when I play in a game, I will say more then." Suggs, on the other hand, will be on the field for the Ravens (9-3) against the surging Redskins (6-6) if his ailing right arm wont hinder his effectiveness. "I dont want to be out there and cant make a play because Im unhealthy and I dont have a full biceps," he said. "Its more if I will help us or hinder us by playing." After missing the first six weeks of the season with a torn right Achilles tendon, Suggs returned sooner than expected and has 19 tackles and two sacks in the last six games. Given his remarkable recuperative powers, Suggs appears to be a good bet to be among the Ravens chasing Robert Griffin III at FedEx Field on Sunday. "Thats Suggs," Baltimore defensive back Corey Graham said. "He comes back from everything, so nothing would surprise me with him." Defensive tackle Terrence Cody added, "The guy is really tough. He came off an Achilles. Now, hes got this injury. You really find out about guys in situations like this. It means something to him. Its always good to have a guy like that on the team thats going to play through everything, loves to play football, loves to go to war like that." The 30-year-old Suggs missed only three games in his first nine seasons before this year. He played in all 16 games last season, had 14 sacks and helped the Ravens reached the AFC title game before being named NFL defensive player of the year. Baltimore appears on course for another trip to the playoffs, but nothing is assured -- yet. "We got a job to do and weve got to get a win," he said. "...If I can play with it, were going to do everything we can to protect it so I dont injure it anymore." Playing with a torn biceps is not unprecedented. "Ive been told a couple of guys in the NFL are playing with torn biceps and that it may get better, it may not, you may need surgery, you may not," he said. "Were going to go over it and decide whats best for the team and myself." Baltimore is 4-2 with Suggs in the lineup, and his presence has been a factor in the improved play of outside linebacker Paul Kruger, who has five sacks in the last four games. "Players like Terrell Suggs do make everybody around them better, so thats probably part of it," coach John Harbaugh said. Lewis is another player with that quality. There is no timetable for his return, but the Ravens dont seem to be the Ravens without No. 52 in the middle of the defence. "This will be part of his rehab, and well see how he does," Harbaugh said. "Whether he gets back soon, late, at all, what hes done to work through the injury, the rehab hes put himself through ... its really impressive." Having him on the practice field wasnt the same as having him in the huddle, but it was an encouraging sign. "Hes Ray Lewis. Everybody knows how much it means," linebacker Jameel McClain said. "Whether it adds up to something in the long run, we dont know that yet. Only Ray knows that. But having him here is definitely a plus for all of us." Matt Ryan threw four touchdown passes, playing his best early and late, to help the Atlanta Falcons lead from start to finish in a 31-18 victory over Detroit on Saturday night.NEW YORK -- Tony Sparano is still the Jets offensive co-ordinator. And, as unlikely as it seems, there remains a chance he could be running Rex Ryans offence next season. A person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the Jets have not yet made a decision on Sparanos job status despite many fans and media having speculated that Sparano will certainly be fired after one season. That means theres a possibility, although it would appear slim, that Sparano could remain on Ryans staff. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to publicly discuss the status of the coaching staff. Ryan, along with all of his assistants, are off until next Monday as they take a break following a dismal 6-10 season that was capped by general manager Mike Tannenbaum being fired Monday. Ryan, who is vacationing in the Bahamas, and owner Woody Johnson will not address the media until next Tuesday. While Johnson said in a statement that Ryan will remain the Jets coach next season, there still remains some uncertainty on which coaches will be back and which ones will not as the team searches for a new general manager. San Francisco director of player personnel Tom Gamble, Atlanta director of player personnel David Caldwell, Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross and former Cleveland GM Tom Heckert are expected to be among those interviewed by the Jets starting later this week. Much of the coaching staff decisions will likely depend on who the new general manager is. It is believed Ryan will be safe -- at least for next season -- regardless of who is hired, but there could be changes made on the coachs staff. While Sparanos status is uncertain, defensive co-ordinator Mike Pettine turned down a contract extension earlier in the season, and special teams co-ordinator Mike Westhoff retired after the season finale at Buffalo on Sunday. Sparano was hired last March to replace Brian Schottenheimer and to turn around an offence that struggled mightily. Instead, the former Miami Doolphins head coach wasnt able to jumpstart the running game or figure out a way to use Tim Tebow consistently.ddddddddddddSparano was expected to use Tebow as a major part of the Jets wildcat-style offence, but the popular backup quarterback was mostly a non-factor -- failing to get into the end zone during his first and likely only season in New York. Mark Sanchez also had a miserable season, getting benched for the first time in his career and leaving his status as the teams starting quarterback next year in serious doubt. "Hes working his butt off and starting to go through player evaluations and things like that that coaches do right after the season ends and these next couple days Im sure theyll do that," Sanchez said Monday as the players cleared out their lockers. "But hes a fighter, hes a tough guy and hes doing his best to try and help the team." Sparano was also working with a makeshift lineup in some cases as top wide receiver Santonio Holmes was lost for the season early with a foot injury. Tight end Dustin Keller played in only eight games because of injuries, while rookie wide receiver Stephen Hill played in just 11 and finished the season on injured reserve with a sprained knee ligament. Sparano had no comment after the season-ending 28-9 loss to the Bills on Sunday, and many thought it was a foregone conclusion that he would be out as the teams offensive co-ordinator. Ryan also declined to comment on the futures of any of his coaches after the game. "What I am as a coach or any of those things, its for somebody else to evaluate and obviously there are a lot of people evaluating me," a joking Sparano said in his weekly news conference last Thursday. "All that being said, I think that when we had those pieces which was not very long, we didnt have them together very long, meaning Tone (Holmes), Stephen and Keller, having all the players out there together at one time, I thought that we were getting really close to where we needed to be."
