SYDNEY, Australia -- Richard Gasquet has joined fellow Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga as a late withdrawal from the Sydney International. Tournament director Craig Watson said Saturday that Gasquet had withdrawn for personal reasons. On Friday, Tsonga injured his left hamstring and pulled out of his mixed doubles match at the Hopman Cup, later saying he would have to withdraw from Sydney where he would have been the top-seeded player. Gasquet was the second-highest ranked player scheduled to play and would have taken the top seeding with Tsonga out. A tournament official said that American John Isner, who had to withdraw from the Hopman Cup with a right knee injury, was still planning to play in Sydney and would now be the tournaments No. 1-seeded player. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Its playoff hopes dashed long ago, Toronto FC hoped to break its latest winless streak with a road win over old rival Columbus on Wednesday night. But the Reds were in no shape to do so. The most porous defence in Major League Soccer conceded an early goal, slogged through the remainder of an ugly first half and ultimately lost to the Crew 2-1. Afterward, Toronto coach Paul Mariner said a lethargic opening was the culprit. "It was the opposite of what I asked for in the dressing room," said Mariner. "It was just not being ready to play."
