GENEVA Stephon Gilmore Limited Jersey , Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Klaus Schwab, founder and chief executive of the World Economic Forum (WEF), said Tuesday that he expects an "important moment" in Davos when China shares with the world new information about its economic development.

Some 70 heads of state and government and 38 leaders of international organizations will attend the Davos forum slated for Jan. 23-26.

China will be represented by Liu He, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the General Office of the Central Leading Group for Financial and Economic Affairs.

"We are pleased to see this year his Excellency Mr. Liu He will lead the Chinese delegation. We know his crucial role in shaping the economic policies in China," Schwab said.

Noting that 2019 will mark the 40th anniversary of the first Chinese delegation to the Davos forum, Schwab said that he felt fortunate to become a partner of China from the very beginning of its reform and opening-up drive.

With the theme of "Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World," this year's Davos forum will have some 400 sessions with 3,000 participants and 12 Nobel laureates joining.

The French presidency said Wednesday that it was in talks to loan the Bayeux Tapestry to Britain, but that the 11th-century embroidery would not be transferred before 2020.

French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to announce the proposed loan of the tapestry, which depicts the Norman Conquest of England in 1066, during a visit to Britain on Thursday.

The 70-metre-long (230 feet) artwork has rarely been moved from the museum in the northern Normandy city of Bayeux. It was displayed in Paris in 1804 and again briefly at the Louvre in 1945.

An official in Macron's office said "it will not be before 2020 because it's an extremely fragile cultural treasure which will be subject to major restoration work before being transported anywhere."

The Bayeux tapestry, which dates from around 1077, depicts the Battle of Hastings in 1066 when William the Conqueror from France defeated English forces at the Battle of Hastings.

The Times reported earlier that preparations for the relocation were under way following months of discussions between cultural officials in both countries, but it is contingent on tests showing the embroidery can be moved safely.

No decision has been made about where it would be displayed during the loan, The Times said, citing British officials.

Macron will hold talks with May at a Britain-France summit at Sandhurst, a British military academy, later this week, with cooperation on various issues set to be discussed.

The museum's director issued a statement welcoming the secured loan.

BEIJING, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- An anti-corruption storm swept China last year and the public saw the effects during the annual Spring Festival TV gala on Wednesday evening.

At least three pieces in the China Central Television (CCTV) gala had anti-corruption themes.

A stand-up routine, "It's not mine," performed by young comedians Miao Fu and Wang Sheng from northwest China's Shaanxi Province, depicted an corrupt official who took bribes including a car, a house and also a woman, if a woman can fairly be described as a bribe.

It was labelled the "most sarcastic stand-up comedy in three decades of galas."

Miao told the Beijing News that the Shaanxi provincial discipline inspection commission helped them a lot by telling them tales of typical corruption cases across the country.

At the end of the sketch the "official" decided to turn himself in to the graft-busters.

The show was widely praised on the Internet with the only complaint being that it was not funny enough.

Another stand-up routine focused on the social phenomenon of "making friends" through bribery in order to get things done, which no longer works, as the sketch showed.

A short play satirized officials using public funds and taking advantage of their superiors' hobbies to get promoted.

Anti-corruption terms familiar to the public recently including "tigers and flies" -- high and low level corrupt officials -- were frequently used.

The anti-graft drive has brought down scores of ranking officials. The year 2014 saw a number of high profile cases that shocked the country, including that of Zhou Yongkang, former member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee; and that of Xu Caihou, former vice chairman of the Central Military Commission.

A total of 71,748 officials were punished in 2014 for breaking anti-graft rules, said the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).

The CCDI has been open with the campaign, and the public has followed its moves in several ways including through its website and mobile app.

TRIPOLI, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Libya's Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan al-Saghir was freed on Monday after being held for 24 hours by unknown gunmen, according to sources from Libya's foreign ministry.

Al-Saghir was "fine and on his way back to his residence in Baida" and "will communicate with media later," one source said.

A government official said the foreign ministry will issue a statement later in the day.

Al-Saghir was abducted on Sunday in his hotel room in the eastern city of Beida. The hotel CCTV showed that he was forced by a group of armed men in civilian clothes into a dark car.

Al-Saghir was a diplomat before being appointed as a member of the National Transitional Council, the de facto government of Libya during the 2011 civil war which toppled former strongman Muammar Gaddafi.
