Despite some lineup changes last night in Phoenix, the Jets returned home still looking for their first win of the season. The next try comes Monday night as the Pittsburgh Penguins come to town for a 7:30 start at MTS Centre (TSN Jets, TSN 1290). Chris Mason started in goal, Randy Jones replaced Johnny Oduya on defence and Tim Stapleton went in for Brett Maclean. Coach Claude Noel also had some new line combinations with Evander Kane joining Alexandre Burmistrov and Nik Atropov, Kyle Wellwood joined Tanner Glass and Jim Slater, the Little line was the same to start the game, while young Mark Scheifele centered Tim Stapleton and Chris Thorburn. As you may expect as the game wore on Coach Noel did some juggling, trying to find an offensive spark. A goal by Daymond Langkow at 34 seconds was not the start the Jets were looking for and when the final buzzer went with Phoenix winning 4-1 and out shooting the Jets 35 to 19, the questions were plentiful. Coach Noel had some strong comments for his troops. “They have not been a winning franchise, but the city of Winnipeg expects success. Losing is not acceptable.” Much of the talk outside of Manitoba is that Jets fans are so happy to have the team back that this is perhaps a free year. That is not the feeling of management, and shouldnt be for the players. It has been a strange month, where all the talk has been about the ‘return of the Jets. The players know this has to get turned around and fast. Take a look at the schedule – its busy. “There was a lot of build up going into the season, but we overlooked the hockey part,”commented Chris Mason in a post game interview with TSN 1290;s Brian Munz. “Weve talked internally and have to learn from this. We need to find an identity, we look nervous, we are out of sync. But we have to stick together,” continued Mason, who was very good in goal. TSN analyst Shane Hnidy, perhaps said it best. “It doesnt matter what the Xs and Os are from the coach, the players have to execute.” “A lot is new for us,” added Kyle Wellwood when he joined the broadcast for some post game comments. “When things dont go well, guys start cheating.” Nik Antropov was awarded a penalty shot in the third, his first ever, but was stopped by Mike Smith. “The early goal against hurt us mentally, but you have to bounce back. Its frustrating the way we are playing. Not picking up guys, not enough shots. The way out of a slump is hard work and pay attention to detail.” Coach Noel agreed with the lack of shots. “Not sure where taking less shots came from. Our offensive success will never come back. Its wise to shoot the puck.” The power play has yet to score in three games, back to back 41% face off success is not good, 35 shots against is too many, and the result is too many minus players. NEW YORK -- Yeremiah Bell is joining the other side of the Dolphins-Jets rivalry. A person familiar with the deal said the New York Jets and the veteran safety agreed to terms Friday on a one-year contract worth $1.4 million. The former Dolphins starter adds depth to the safety position, a spot the Jets have revamped this off-season. Starter Eric Smith remains, but the Jets also signed LaRon Landry a few weeks ago, and drafted Josh Bush in the sixth round and Antonio Allen in the seventh. Bells deal includes $1.3 million fully guaranteed, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced the move. ProFootballTalk.com first reported the deal. The 34-year-old Bell spent all nine of his previous NFL seasons with the Dolphins, but was cut in March to create cap space. He was a consistent performer for Miami, starting in every game but one the last four seasons. Bell had a team-leading 107 tackles, two sacks and an interception last season. While he likely comes in to back up Landry at strrong safety, Bell also provides insurance at the position in case the former Washington Redskins star isnt fully healed from an Achilles injury that limited him last season.dddddddddddd The Jets have said they believe Landry will be ready to go for training camp, however, although he has not participated in all of the voluntary off-season workouts. Bell, who played under current Jets offensive co-ordinator Tony Sparano in Miami, reportedly worked out for New York, Philadelphia, Tennessee and Kansas City before choosing to play in Rex Ryans defence. Bells best season came in 2009, when he had 114 tackles, a career-high three interceptions and 1 1/2 sacks while being selected for the Pro Bowl. The Jets still might not be done addressing the safety position. Jim Leonhard, a starter the last three years, is a free agent and still recovering from a knee injury that cut short his season. The Jets could still re-sign the popular veteran -- whom cornerback Darrelle Revis referred to as the "quarterback" of the defence -- if Leonhard proves hes healthy. ' ' '
