Russias Kontinental Hockey League has announced a new set of guidelines for its clubs signing NHL talent in the event of a lockout. Aimed at ensuring "that only top-level foreign players come to play in the Kontinental Hockey League," the KHL announced specific conditions regarding which players were eligible to sign deals. Each team would be allowed to sign three eligible National Hockey League players above the teams established roster limit of 25, but of those three only one could be a player born outside Russia. As for the foreign-born talent, a strict set of criteria were outlined as to which players would be eligible. Players wishing to sign in the KHL must fulfill one of the following four requirements, as outlined in a league statement: - The player has played no fewer than 150 games in the NHL over the last three seasons. - Has experience of playing in the KHL. - Represented his country at one of the last two IIHF World Championships, World Junior Championships or the Olympics. - Is a Stanley Cup winner, a Stanley Cup finalist, or a winner of one of the individual prizes awarded by the NHL at the close of their season. KHL clubs based outside Russia, however, may sign more than one foreign player among the maximum three NHL players and those players would not be subject to the conditions outlined above. The move does acknowledge the temporary nature of such players signing in Russia, ensuring that each contract must contain an out clause that terminates it in the event of a resolution to a potential NHL lockout. KHL rosters would be allowed to have six foreign-born players per club, with a limit of five foreign players named in the roster for each game. Salaries paid to NHL players during the lockout will not count towards the clubs KHL salary cap obligations. However, player salaries can be no higher than 65 per cent of the players expected 2012-13 NHL salary. jerseys from china . Josh Harrelsons 3-pointer with 1:01 remaining put the Heat ahead for good at 102-99.What a difference a year makes. After Saturdays 33-17 rout of the B.C. Lions, the Edmonton Eskimos find themselves all alone in first place atop the CFLs West Division at 3-0. To put that in perspective, it wasnt until the end of September that the Esks picked up their third win of the season. So how have the Eskimos managed to turn things around? Lets start at the top. When Eric Tillman took over as general manager midway through last season, he promised major changes. To say Tillman kept his word would be an understatement. The Eskimos roster has undergone a complete overhaul from last season. Gone are the likes of Maurice Lloyd, Dario Romero, Elliot Richardson, Derick Armstrong, Patrick Afif, Jared Zabransky, and many more. In are Chris Bauman, Donovan Alexander, Damon Duval, Adarius Bowman and draft pick Nate Coehoorn. In fact, during the Eskimos opening week win over the Riders, the team featured 12 new starters. Tillman also cleaned house in the coaching staff as only assistants Mark Nelson and Tim Prinsen are back for 2011. First year head coach Kavis Reed took over for Richie Hall and is looking like he may be the second coming of Kent Austin for Tillman. A former defensive back for the Eskimos, Reed has brought a new attitude into the teams state-of-the art locker room and made it clear that he intends to restore the Eskimos tradition of winning. Defensive guru Rich Stubler is also back after a few previous stints with the club and has the Eskimo defence playing fast and with an intensity that was conspicuously absent most of last season. With all these changes, many predicted the Eskimos to go through a few growing pains early in the season. That hasnt been the case. One of the biggest reasons for the Eskimos success offensively has been the play of Ricky Ray. Last season, many critics speculated that Ray was passed his prime and that maybe it was time for him to give way to heir apparent Zabransky. Well, Zabransky is gone and Ray is back to looking like the Ricky Raay of old.dddddddddddd Through three games, Ray has thrown for over 1,000 yards and is completing 72.5 per cent of his pass attempts. He has six touchdowns and no interceptions with a league best 130.4 quarterback efficiency rating. Much of the credit for Rays success must also go to the offensive line who have given Ray the time he needs to go through his reads and find open targets. Rays favourite target, Fred Stamps, leads the CFL in receiving with 316 yards. Newcomer Adarius Bowman has also been a major contributor. Bowman has seemingly rid himself of the problems he had dropping the ball with Winnipeg to haul in 13 catches for 226 yards. The Eskimos ground attack has also been impressive, leading the league with an average of over 140 yards rushing per game. Running back Jerome Messam has been one of the feel-good stories this year, leading the team with 193 yards and two touchdowns, after being cast aside by the B.C. Lions prior to the season for off-field issues. While the offence has moved the ball along the ground with ease, defensively the Eskimos have been all but impossible to run against. They are allowing a league-low 58.7 rush yards per game. The Eskimos young defence has been one of the best in the league despite not featuring many marquee names. Prior to Saturdays game, Lions head coach Wally Buono said that he didnt know who half of the players on the Esks defence were but that he was impressed with their play. He may well be even more impressed after seeing the Eskimos cast of no-names hold his Lions to just three first downs in the first half. Overall, this Edmonton team has held opponents to just 55 points and is a league-best plus- 9 in the takeaway department, including six interceptions. While its still far too early to pencil the Eskimos into the Grey Cup, the city of champions certainly looks like it has a team to cheer for again. So what do you think has been the biggest reason for the Eskimos turnaround? As always, its Your! Call. ' ' '
