A team with a couple of top tier forwards, the Anaheim Ducks generally provide depth and upside value for fantasy owners. . Top Picks: Its not surprise that C Ryan Getzlaf and RW Corey Perry are the two prime picks for the Ducks. They are the franchise cornerstones, links to their Stanley Cup win and anchors on the teams top line. Perry holds more relative value, generally, because the depth of talent at right wing isnt the same as centre. In leagues that count penalty minutes, Perry remains a viable first-round pick. Even if his MVP season is somewhat of an anomaly, over the last six seasons, Perry is the only player in the league with at least 180 goals, 360 points and 400 penalty minutes. Getzlaf has been a point-per-game centre for five of the last six seasons, but his 2011-2012 season was a dud and he missed 31 games in the two years before, so he doesnt come without flaws. Nevertheless, hes a good bet as a low-end No. 1, top tier No. 2 centre. Value Plays: When it comes to the rest of the Ducks, enthusiasm needs to be tempered. We all love RW Teemu Selanne. Hes had a wonderful career and is by all accounts a wonderful guy, but he also had six goals and one assist (!) in his last 33 regular season games last season, so hes a long way from his most productive days and with a decreasing role, the 43-year-old is worth consideration in deep leagues. D Francois Beauchemin had a career year and finished the season playing on a torn ACL, but keep it in perspective: hes 33-years-old and last seasons plus-19 was the first time since 2006-2007 that he finished with a plus rating. Hes also going to be missing his defence partner, Sheldon Souray, for the first couple months of the season after Souray suffered an injury while training this summer. Goaltenders Viktor Fasth and Jonas Hiller are coming off strong seasons, but they cut into each others value because as long as both remain healthy, its hard to imagine a dramatic split in the workload. Forced to choose, give a slight edge to Fasth, who was better last season, even though hes 31 and has 25 games of NHL experience. Sleepers/Breakthrough: Looking for upside plays, check out the left wingers. Jakob Silfverberg is a right winger, but should have an opportunity to play the left side with Getzlaf and Perry, a plum position that can make just about anyone more appealing. Silfverberg had a decent rookie season, but his pedigree and ability to generate shots on goal in his first NHL campaign suggest that there should be more production coming. Dustin Penner Kyle Palmieri has 15 goals and 29 points in 70 career NHL games, and has 46 goals and 83 points in 84 AHL games over the last couple seasons, so he knows what to do with the puck in the offensive zone. It has to be a deep league to consider taking a winger that had two goals in 33 games last season, but Dustin Penner is a five-time 20-goal scorer. If the 30-year-old ends up on a scoring line, he could warrant consideration. Rookies: There arent a lot of openings for Ducks rookies, but Sourays injury may make it easier for undersized Finnish D Sami Vatanen to earn a regular turn on the blueline. Vatanen was stellar in Finland and made a smooth transition to North America, putting up 45 points in 62 AHL games. With regular playing time, including time on the power play, he could put up some decent numbers. The 15th pick in 2009, Peter Holland has six points in 25 career games, but 105 points in 119 AHL games does suggest that he might be able to fill a scoring role in the NHL. With Saku Koivu and Nick Bonino behind Getzlaf on the depth chart, Holland could still have a shot at the second-line centre job or he could be left battling for a spot in the lineup. The superstar forward made the announcement on Tuesday, one day after being suspended three games by the league for a hit to the head of Pittsburghs Zbynek Michalek. . Gretzky was asked if he believes Montreal Canadiens defenceman PK Subban should be on Canadas blueline in February at the Sochi Olympics. "Im not going to get in the middle of that controversy because Stevie Yzerman obviously knows what hes doing, he won a gold medal in 2010," said Gretzky. Cheap Jerseys Wholesale . With an NBA record-tying 10 blocked shots, the 7-foot All-Star centre put the Lakers on the good foot -- and the Denver Nuggets on their heels. Kobe Bryant scored 31 points, Bynum posted the Lakers first playoff triple-double in 21 years, and Los Angeles thoroughly controlled the tempo in a playoff-opening 103-88 victory Sunday. Hoyer is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery on Friday, and Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said he hopes the QB will be able to return for practice next spring.SYOSSET, N.Y. -- Mark Streit is a rarity for the New York Islanders. The veteran defenceman is one of the few players, who when given the chance to go anywhere, actually chose to play on Long Island. Nearly five years after he signed his free-agent contract, Streit is about to wear the teams orange and blue sweater in a playoff game for the first time. "Its amazing," the Islanders captain said Monday after practice. "Its a great feeling. The past was some rough years, definitely." The Swiss defenceman had logged three seasons with the Canadiens when he hit the free-agent market in the summer of 2008. Five years later, the move is finally paying off with a cast of players that werent around when he arrived. With young superstar John Tavares leading the way and veteran Evgeni Nabokov in goal , the Islanders are in the playoffs for the first time since 2007. Dont try to bring them down with doom and gloom talk about having to play the top-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins (36-12-0) in the first round of the Eastern Conference tournament. "The future is bright," Streit said. "There are a lot of young guys on the team and there is a veteran presence, as well, so its a good mix. The future in Brooklyn looks great, as well. "They are the best team in the Eastern Conference and its a big challenge for us, but we beat them, too, this year. In sports, nothing is impossible. They are the big favourite, but it starts at 0-0 and we want to give them a good series." The Islanders (24-17-7) know they have nothing to lose once the series begins Wednesday in Pittsburgh. If they can win at least one of the first two games on the road, they will return to what will surely be a raucous Nassau Coliseum for a Game 3 matinee on Sunday. New York dropped four of five this season against its Atlantic Division rival. Getting the Penguins early could even be a bonus if star Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby isnt ready to return to action because of a broken jaw sustained against the Islanders when he was struck in the face by a puck. "Theyre ranked where they are for a reason," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said of the Penguins. "The ultimate goal is to win the Stanley Cup. If youre going to get to the Stanley Cup youve got to beat the best teams. No matter who we played in the first round, to get there you have to get through them. "We are asking our guys to be relaxed and focused. Thats all I am asking them to do." Sharing this run, no matter how long it lasts, with the core led by Tavares, Matt Moulson, Kyle Okposo and Josh Bailey, makes it that much more satisfying for the 35-year-old Streit. "Its my fifth season and I played with a lot guys since they came into the league," Streit said. "You see they are progressing every year, you see the team growing, and finally you make it and its an unbelievable feeling for the players, the staff and for the fans who have been waiting for this for a long time." It has been 30 years since the dynasty days of the Islanders, those golden times from 1980-83 when the team won four straight Stanley Cups. The teams time on Long Island is running out. A move to a new arena in BBrooklyn is already scheduled for the 2015-16 season. Cheap Naples Jerseys. In a perfect world it will happen sooner, but the Islanders are committed to honouring the lease they have unless given the go-ahead to get out early. "There is a great deal of excitement that the team is finally getting a first-class building to play in," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. "Id like to see them in the newer building as soon as possible, but I know the Islanders are prepared to fulfil their obligations under their lease. "If Nassau County was inclined to let them go earlier, I know they would definitely be interested." With a young nucleus and a bright future in front of them, the days of the Islanders being irrelevant in the NHL could soon be over -- and perhaps already are. "I dont know if people are paying attention to us or not," said Okposo, the No. 7 pick in the 2006 draft. "We dont really look at that, we dont really care. We know what we have here. While this will be the first post-season game for many of the Islanders, Capuano and several players quickly pointed out that New York has been playing with playoff pressure for weeks as the club fought to finish in the top eight in the East. "I have been wanting to play in the Stanley Cup playoffs since I was 6 years old," Okposo said. "It means a lot to me personally. I am very excited, but I will be ready to play." The Islanders had their sights set on maybe getting up as high as fifth or sixth, but an 0-1-2 finish at the conclusion of a season-ending, five-game trip, dropped them to eighth. A win by Ottawa on Sunday night in the NHLs final game set up New Yorks matchup with Pittsburgh. But an 11-1-2 surge leading up to the late-season skid made the playoff berth not merely a hope, but a reality. "Were playing some confident hockey and want to take that into the playoffs," said Moulson, the Islanders second-leading scorer behind Tavares. "Were prepared to try to play any team were playing in the playoffs. "You get into the playoffs, you want to win the Stanley Cup. I think that is enough pressure for anyone." While no one was harkening back to the Islanders glory days, when this club was the one no one else in the NHL wanted to face, Capuano and some of his players did dip into hockey history to try to make the point that everyone is even now. Their sights needed to go back just one year when the Los Angeles Kings -- the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference -- knocked off No. 1 and No. 2 en route to becoming the lowest seed to capture the Stanley Cup. "Were in the playoffs, so were obviously a team that had a good season, and we really had a strong second half," said Tavares, whose MVP resume features 28 goals and 47 points. "We had a great run toward the end of the season that we needed to get into the playoffs. Thats going to gain attention. "Weve proven we have the ability to make the playoffs and be a tough team to play against and compete with every team in the league. Now its another test, another level to challenge ourselves to be successful. This is that next step for us to raise our level. We ultimately want to win the Stanley Cup." ' ' '
