“Town of Demons” so Sanlunsha area, located to the north-west of Dunhuang on Map of China was called under the Tang Dynasty (the VII-X centuries). Today, the whole area is a national geological park “Yardang”, but at the beginning of the first millennium BC it was the place where a disappeared southern branch of the Silk Road ran through. Sanlunsha or Yardang is a belt of quicksands, constantly moving around Dunhuang under the influence of winds. There you can watch a unique terrain, which is called yardangi. This parallel furrows and hills were formed under the influence of wind and water or displacement of geological strata.

The main geological remain in the park during your Silk Road travel is Yadan geomorphy formed by wind erosion. It takes more than 700,000 years to form this geomorphy. Dunhuang Yadan National Geopark has the largest-scale, and the best developed Yadan geomorphic colony known so far. It is regarded as a wonder with the most beautiful views.

Starting from Dunhuang City, walking through a large stretch of Gobi desert, you can reach Jade Gate Pass and the Yardang National Park is about 85 kilometers away from Jade Gate Pass. On the way to the park, you can image the ancient western China from the Great Wall built in Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD) and ancient beacons (used to send messages during wartime). The landscape which formed by blue sky, meadows, lakes, wild gooses and ducks will offer you a quite different experience on China tourism.
