Alexander Grenier opened the scoring for the Comets (0-7-2) in the first period, before Sam Carrick tied it for the Marlies (6-3-1). Brennan scored his first goal in the second period, just 1:36 after Jesse Blacker snapped a 1-1 tie for Toronto. Stefan Legein, on the power play, made it 4-1 for Toronto, before Benn Ferriero cut the margin with Utica skating with the man advantage at 18:54 of the second period.
