Season 13 of "The Ultimate Fighter" looks to be a different animal. Rival coaches Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos could show Miss Manners a few things, at least judging from Wednesdays opening episode of the reality TV show. The two heavyweights, who will face off June 11 in Vancouver with a title shot on the line, have been professional and polite in the leadup to the new season and its no different as the show opens. The two coaches walk on together and shake hands as they prepare for fighter evaluations, with a beaming Dos Santos even offering a friendly pat on the shoulder, suggesting that sparks will have to come elsewhere this season. Its a far cry from Josh Koschecks constant sniping at Georges St-Pierre in Season 12 or the sandpaper-like relationship of Rashad Evans and Quinton (Rampage) Jackson on Season 10 and Michael Bisping and Dan Henderson on Season 9. Sadly theres also a slow start to the fighting this time round. The opening bout is a mismatch and there is little drama as Dos Santos top pick Shamar Bailey puts German Nordin (Fist of Tangier) Asrih, Lesnars last selection, on his back and controls him for two rounds. "Not the most exciting fight you will ever see in Ultimate Fighter, history," laments UFC president Dana White. Says Lesnar to his team afterwards: "Wrestling is powerful in this sport, fellows. Its powerful." The first episode titled "Something to Prove," is also less frenetic than the opening chapter of recent seasons given that cast members dont have to win a preliminary fight to enter the house where they spend the next six weeks in search of a UFC contract. Instead the 14 welterweights arrive at the UFC Training Center where they get a somewhat understated pep talk from White, who drops a mere three F-bombs. The opening seems more muted than most, especially when White takes time -- somewhat unnecessarily it seems -- to reel off the CVs of former champ Lesnar and Dos Santos. The opening episode does hold out hope that viewers will see more of the real Lesnar, who has opened up considerably since his career-threatening bout of diverticulitis. The big man used to be dour and distant in public. Even the UFC bills him as its "biggest and most unpredictable star" in its TUF 13 trailer. Instead, on the show, hes almost professorial, holding onto a clipboard, while his strength and conditioning coach puts the fighters through a workout. "A couple of questions for you, buddy," Lesnar asks one. "Why are you here, buddy?" "Are you here to be a TV star or are you here to be a fighter," he quietly asks another. A smiling Dos Santos, meanwhile, looks to be an MMA sweetheart in the making. The Brazilian, who impresses with his English, is clearly from the hug em and love em coaching school of fellow Brazilian Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (Season . "I think it was (fighter) Matt Mitrione in one of trailers said hes like the happiest 10-year-old boy in the most dangerous guys body," Edmonton welterweight Ryan McGillivray, who is part of Team Dos Santos, told The Canadian Press. "That was exactly to a T how I would describe him. He is a happy-go-lucky, just a very genuinely nice person and I hope that the fans get a better outlook on what kind of person he is on the show, because that doesnt always get shown on a fight and he really is a fantastic guy." Lesnar wins the toss and decides to choose the first fighter rather than the matchup of the first bout. But viewers dont get to see the actual draft. Instead White tosses team jerseys to fighters once it is done. Lesnar picks Len Bentley, a 27-year-old with a 9-4 record, first overall while Dos Santos takes Bailey, a 28-year-old with a 10-2 record. McGillivray goes fourth overall to Dos Santos, after Lesnar takes Charles (Superstar) Rader. "I love Brock," Chris Cope says after getting a green Lesnar jersey. "Hope he loves me." "Good luck with that," White says with a chuckle. Sadly, Myles (Fury) Jury, picked ninth overall by Lesnar, has to exit early after tearing knee ligaments in the evaluation session. Lesnar tries to offer some constructive advice in the wake of the painful diagnosis. "This happens to a lot of athletes," he tells Jury. "And from my past experiences, figure out How do we fix this and how do I get back to where we need to be. Im sorry Myles." White has to break the news that he cant stay on the show. Chuck ONeil is the lucky alternate who gets to replace Jury. .S. military base for UFC: Fight for the Troops 3. This fight card, which takes place in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, has had a number of changes, including headliner Lyoto Machida replaced by fellow Brazilian Rafael Natal. After a stellar Royals debut in a relief role on Friday, Paulino will make his first start of the season this afternoon and try to pitch his new club to a series victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Kauffman Stadium.EVANSTON, Ill. -- No matter how many wins Michigan piles up, Trey Burke insisted one thing will not change. The Wolverines will keep seeing themselves as underdogs, even after nights like this. Burke scored 23 points, Tim Hardaway Jr. added 21 and No. 2 Michigan pounded Northwestern 94-66 on Thursday to remain unbeaten. Off to their best start since they opened the 1985-86 season with 16 wins, the Wolverines (14-0, 1-0) had no trouble in the Big Ten opener after breezing through the non-conference portion of their schedule. They built a 21-point halftime lead with Burke and Hardaway Jr. leading the way and were never challenged by Northwestern (9-5, 0-1). "14-0 thats a great start -- and 1-0 in the Big Ten -- but weve got to keep the attitude where guys are still doubting us," Burke said. Hell get no argument from his coach. "Were always working that way, like were hunting all the time and we dont ever want to lose that," John Beilein said. "Its not a negative to always be working." Michigan shot 59.6 per cent overall and made 13 of 22 3-point attempts with the two guards doing most of the damage. Burke shot 9 of 16 overall and hit 4 of 6 3-pointers. Hardaway was 6 of 8 from the field and 4 of 5 from long range, and the ankle injury that kept him out of the previous game didnt seem to be an issue. "Just to see him back out there after his injury," Burke said. "Back in action. Back in the groove. It was great." Jordan Morgan added 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Wolverines, while Glenn Robinson III and Nik Stauskas scored 10 points apiece. Jared Swopshire and Kale Abrahamson each scored 11 points for Northwestern, but the Wildcats gave up the most points they have allowed this season while being outclassed by one of the nations best teams. "Eventually, weve got to start doing things that the coaches get on us about," guard Dave Sobolewski said. "We keep messing up the same things in the 1-3-1. We keep missing assignments. We keep falling asleep on deffence.dddddddddddd A lot of it will come down to heart and how bad we want it on defence mainly, too." It was a sharp contrast from their two meetings last season, when Michigan needed overtime to win both games. Then again, the Wildcats were short-handed. Besides suspending guard JerShon Cobb for the season for violating team policy, they also shut down one of their best players, Drew Crawford, for the remainder of the season last month because of a shoulder injury. Leading scorer Reggie Hearn sat out his second straight game because of a sprained ankle. Even so, Michigan wasnt showing any mercy. Instead, the Wolverines ended the suspense early. Burke, averaging a team-leading 17.8 points coming in, scored 15 in the first half. Hardaway added 12 points, hitting all four 3s, and Michigan barely broke a sweat before taking a 51-30 halftime lead. "I guess thats what happens when youre running the fastbreaks and getting easy baskets. It all comes off of defensive stops," Hardaway said. Burke did his best to bury Northwestern almost as soon as the game started. The sophomore guard scored 13 straight points for Michigan to help the Wolverines grab a 20-4 lead. "Hes got a presence out there," Beilein said. "Hes got a great ability to know when he can score and when he can find other people." Hardaway got going midway through the half, making consecutive 3-pointers that made it 33-13 and drew an "M Go Blue! M Go Blue!" chant from the maize-and-blue contingent in the stands. He struck again from the outside on consecutive possessions later in the half. And Burke wowed the crowd in the closing minutes when he laid the ball in after a nasty crossover. For Northwestern fans, there was little to cheer in the early going other than when football coach Pat Fitzgerald addressed the crowd on the heels of his teams Gator Bowl victory. "Coach told us to be aggressive," Burke said. "Dont be timid against the zone. Attack it so you can get good shots." cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '
