TRIESTE, Italy -- Emily Csikos, Dominique Perreault and Tara Campbell each scored twice Wednesday as Canada defeated Brazil 11-4 at the womens Olympic water polo qualifying tournament. Krystina Alogbo, Joelle Bekhazi, Carmen Eggens, Monika Eggens and Rosanna Tomiuk also scored for the Canadians, who rebounded from a 10-2 loss to world champion Greece on Tuesday. "We started of a little bit slow because we were trying to get the kinks out (after Tuesdays) defeat," Alogbo said. "But we found our way back and we needed that game to get our grove back." With the win, Canada capped the round-robin portion of the event with a 2-1-1 record. Greece leads Group B with a 3-0-0 record followed by the Netherlands (2-0-1) and Canada. Kazakhstan and Brazil each have three losses. Those two countries play each other on Thursday, while Greece takes on the Netherlands. The Canadians need a top-four finish at the nine-country tournament to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games. That will be determined in the crossover matches between the top four in each group set for Friday. Group A has Hungary, Italy, Russia and Spain. Canada can still play any one of those countries in Fridays critical quarter-finals with a spot in London on the line. "We have video on all these teams, the coaching staff is ready to give us the right gameplan," Alogbo said. "I think mentally and physically our mind and heart are set that no matter who we face were going to be ready to conquer anything." Alogbo adds it will be nice to sit back and watch the other teams battle it out before finding out Fridays opponent. "Its good because we can just go over things and watch the other teams and focus and just be ready to give everything," she said. "At this point we dont have anything physically more we can do, its all about our mental preparation and I think well be ready for whatever team we play." The Canadian women, ranked No. 8 in the world, narrowly missed out on an automatic Olympic berth at the Pan American Games in October. Canada dropped a 27-26 decision to the U.S. in a gold-medal game that went down to two scoreless overtime periods and then a shootout. A victory would have guaranteed Canada at spot in London. On Friday night at Shaw Park, the RedHawks came back from a 3-2 deficit with a pair of runs in the eighth inning to beat the Goldeyes 4-3 in the final game of a four-game series. With the win, Fargo swept the series and won its seventh straight game from the Fish at Shaw Park this season. With the loss, Winnipeg loses its fifth straight game and falls to 26-20, but remains one game ahead of Fargo and Sioux Falls in the race for first in the American Associations North Division. “Their (Fargos) bullpen was special this week and their defense was as good as Ive seen it,” said Forney. “That (Zach) Penprase at shortstop was sensational and that guy (Marcos) Rodriguez at first was making some great plays. They were very good. “Weve just determined that we cant win by scoring three runs in a game. Its just not enough. We scored three in the second inning and then nothing else. You just cant win doing that..dddddddddddd.” Winnipeg opened the scoring in the second as Luis Alen and Kyle Day singled and then Josh Mazzola hit a three-run homer to straight away centerfield. Fargo put up a run in the third off starter Matt Rusch and another in the fourth, but Rusch gave the Goldeyes a great opening six innings. He struck out 10 and left the game with a 3-2 lead. But in the eighth, Billy Spottiswood was tagged for a pair of runs and for the third time in this four game series, the Goldeyes took a lead into the eighth and couldnt hold it.
