FREDERICTON -- Kevin Baker had a goal and an assist and Julian Cimadamore scored the winner in the third period Friday as the Western Mustangs defeated the Calgary Dinos 3-2 at the Canadian university mens hockey championship. Josh McQuade had the other goal for Western (1-0), while Anthony Grieco made 21 saves for the victory. Brock Nixon and Teegan Moore replied for Calgary (0-2). Dustin Butler made 19 saves in taking the loss for the Dinos, who were eliminated with their second loss in Pool A round-robin play. Western and host New Brunswick will play Saturday night for the right to go to Sundays final. In Pool B action earlier Friday, Phil Mangan had a goal and an assist to lead the St. Francis Xavier X-Men to a 3-1 win over the Alberta Golden Bears. Baker opened the scoring for Calgary just 1:30 into the first period and added an assist on McQuades breakaway goal to make it 2-0 at 6:07 of the second. "Im proud of the effort and I thought the guys executed the gameplan very well," Mustangs head coach Clarke Singer said. "To get an early goal like that I think really helped everyones confidence." After Calgary cut it to 2-1, Cimadamore capitalized on a Dinos turnover to score on breakaway at 14:48 of the third. Moore added a late goal for Calgary, but the Dinos would get no closer. "Its to hard to go down early," Dinos head coach Mark Howell said. "Western was ready to go right at the drop of the puck and we werent quite at the same level. "Its an awful feeling knowing your season is done." In the early game, R.D. Chisholm and Kevin Undershute had the other goals for St. F.X. (1-1). Brennan Wray added two assists and Joseph Perricone stopped 24 shots. Derek Ryan replied for Alberta (0-1) while Kurtis Mucha made 25 saves. The win was a big one for the X-Men, who needed a victory to remain in contention. St. F.X. lost its opening game 2-1 to the McGill Redmen on Thursday. Alberta takes on McGill (1-0) on Saturday in the final Pool B contest with all three teams still capable of advancing to Sundays final. McGill would advance with a win Saturday. The X-Men would qualify if Alberta beats McGill by one or two goals or if Alberta wins by a three-goal margin, except by a 3-0 score. Alberta would move on if it defeats the Redmen by four or more goals. Should Alberta beat McGill 3-0, then it and St. F.X. would face off in a shootout following the Bears-Redmen game. "Theres no quitting in this team," X-Men coach Brad Peddle said. "Now, were going to turn into big Alberta fans (on Saturday)." With the score tied 1-1 late in the second, Chisholms blast from the point got past Mucha to give St. F.X. a 2-1 lead at 17:55. Undershute made it 3-1 at 1:16 of the third. Mangan banged a rebound past Mucha to give St. F.X. a 1-0 lead at 16:08 of the first before Ryan tied it for Alberta on the power play at 4:46 of the second. "Before the game we just said lets go out there and have some fun," Mangan said. "We just wanted to give it our all and give ourselves a chance (Saturday)." The high-powered Golden Bears offence came into the tournament scoring a Canada West-high 112 goals in 28 games. "I dont think we played our best game but credit to X, they played a great game," Alberta head coach Eric Thurston said. "Well need to open things up (Saturday). "And we have the skills to do it. We cant be afraid of losing. We have to play to win." Wholesale Jerseys China . ABBOTSFORD, B.C. -- An injection of NHL experience made all the difference for the Abbotsford Heat Friday night. Ben Street was sent down by the Calgary Flames this week and made an immediate impact, scoring the opening goal in the Heats 4-2 win over the Lake Erie Monsters in American Hockey League play. Veteran defenceman Derek Smith, as well as forwards Blair Jones and Roman Horak also joined the club. Street, Smith and Jones were the games three stars, while Horak chipped in with two assists. "With Smith and Street, it was like two grown men out there, compared to what we looked like a week ago against Milwaukee at home," said head coach Troy Ward. "They got a good first goal out of Street and Smith played well." Corban Knight scored the winning goal in the second period, while Chad Billins added a key insurance goal in the third for Abbotsford (4-3-1). Not long after Lake Erie had cut the Heats lead to 3-2, there was a goal-mouth scramble in front of Abbotsfords Reto Berra. However, instead of tying the game at three, Michael Scarbossa was assessed a roughing minor, and the Heat made them pay on the power play. "Were deeper and seem to have a bit more of a presence as a team," said Ward. "This is the first time all year weve actually responded to something, where we kind of put a nail in the coffin. That was very much a turning point of the game." Carter Bancks also scored, while Berra made 22 saves. The majority of Berras saves came in the third period after facing just 12 shots through the first 40 minutes. "Those are always tough games for a goalie, when you dont have that many shots," said Berra. "I had a good start, a lot of shots, andd I had a long time with no shots.dddddddddddd And at the end, a couple good chances again. It wasnt easy." Bryan Lerg and Joey Hishon scored for Lake Erie (3-4-0), while Sami Aittokallio stopped 28 shots. The Heat opened the scoring at 14:44. Max Reinhart made a no-look, behind-the-back pass from behind the net to Street, who converted his own rebound. "I was hoping to play a little more in their zone 1/8than I did in Calgary 3/8, and I thought our line was able to do that," said Street. "We had some extended shifts that we were able to get the puck down low and get some chances to the net." The Monsters tied it just 69 seconds into second period while on the power play. Andrew Agozzino took advantage of Smith being caught deep in the Lake Erie zone and sent Hishon in alone to score top corner with a backhand shot on Berra. However, the Heat regained the lead at 5:25. Byrons initial shot was stopped, but Ben Hanowski rushed in to chip the puck up and Bancks was there at the side of the net to knock the puck out of the air and into the net for his first of the year. Knight scored at 15:54 to give Abbotsford a two-goal lead. He took a feed from Greg Nemisz and backhanded it between Aittokallios legs, giving him two goals on the campaign. However, the visitors cut the deficit in half only 61 seconds into the third period. Brad Malone centred for Lerg, who quickly wristed it top shelf for his team-leading fifth of the season. Then, on the power play, Billins one-timer slap shot blew by the Monsters netminder, giving the second-year defenceman four goals in eight games to start the year. Abbotsford finished 1 for 4 on the power play, while Lake Erie was 1 for 5. cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '
