DENVER -- This weather pattern has left the New York Mets in quite a holding pattern. So much so that its becoming a concern for manager Terry Collins, whos worried about his team staying in rhythm in light of all the postponements. For the third time in four days, the Mets had to hang out in the clubhouse instead of hitting hanging curves. The game between New York and the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night was postponed as another spring snowstorm passed through the Mile High City. No makeup date was announced, but the teams wont play a doubleheader on Thursday. The series finale is scheduled to begin at 3:10 p.m. EDT. Lately, waiting on weather reports has become an all-too-familiar routine for the Mets. Mondays game was pushed back due to flurries and made up as part of a doubleheader Tuesday that was swept by the Rockies. Just to get that game in, team employees, led by Colorado owner Dick Monfort, shovelled 8 inches of snow off the field. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson also pitched in. The dreary weather seems to be following the Mets. Wintry conditions also forced their game in Minneapolis on Sunday to be rescheduled for Aug. 19. All this down time is a little unsettling for Collins. "This is a game of consistency, a game of repetitions," Collins said. "When you lose those reps, it can change the outcome of a lot. ... This has been a tough trip for us. Guys are tired of sitting at the hotel." To keep his top pitchers on normal rest, Collins will skip Jeremy Heffner on Thursday in favour of Jonathon Niese, while the Rockies will counter with Jon Garland. That means Matt Harvey will pitch against Washingtons Stephen Strasburg when New York returns home on Friday. The conditions are looking favourable for Thursday, too -- chilly, but dry. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with the high about 34 degrees. Mets outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis has rarely seen anything like this, and hes even lived in Denver for six years. He went to high school at nearby Denver Christian. "It is a little bit late in the year for two games to be cancelled," Nieuwenhuis said. "But it happens." The dilemma with so many days off is keeping your timing at the plate. Mets catcher John Buck has been in quite a groove and has his average up to .326 with six homers. But hes also looking on the bright side. "Maybe its good that its so close to spring training because in spring training this is how it was every day (not playing regularly)," Buck said. "Its not far from that routine so maybe its good. It doesnt bother me." Still, hes anxious to play on a regular basis again, with no weather interfering. The Rockies havent minded the cold as much, mainly because theyve been winning. They swept the doubleheader, beating the Mets 8-4 in the opener and 9-8 in 10 innings during the nightcap when the temperature at first pitch was 36 degrees. "It froze my brain for a little bit," outfielder Carlos Gonzalez said, grinning. This spring, nothing can cool Gonzalezs bat. Hes hitting a team-leading .380 with four homers. The Mets have employed a defence against Gonzalez that the San Diego Padres have been utilizing as well. When the slugger is up, they shift the infield over, with third baseman David Wright moving to the shortstop spot, shortstop Ruben Tejada sliding over to the right side of second base and second baseman Daniel Murphy relocating closer to first. "When youre facing CarGo, you let him have some singles to left field, if thats what he wants," Collins explained. "If he wants to push bunts, he can have those. Because hell hit more balls over the fence than he will have bunts." Gonzalez will simply take whatever the defence wants to give him. "They think Im focused on hitting home runs. You know what, Ill take advantage of that. If you want me to take singles, Ill take singles," Gonzalez said. "I know that if you make a mistake, Im going to hit it over the fence. It doesnt matter if theyre playing the shift. I dont think the shift is going to cover the stands." NOTES: The Mets optioned RHP Greg Burke to Triple-A Las Vegas and called up RHP Jeurys Familia. Burke took the loss in the nightcap Tuesday when he allowed a game-ending single to Jordan Pacheco in the 10th. ... Rockies players didnt come to Coors Field on Wednesday. ... The Mets and Rockies both have off days on June 24 and June 27 -- possible dates to make up the game. ... Alderson on the spring weather: "Very crazy for us. Very crazy for most. We just happen to hit it squarely in Minnesota and Denver. Thats life in the big leagues, I guess." ... Harvey on going against Strasburg: "Its going to be fun, definitely looking forward to it." wholesale nfl jerseys .C. -- Turner Elson put up a lot of points in junior, but it was his first professional goal that ignited the Abbotsford Heat Friday night. wholesale jerseys . "Im tired of losing," Vasquez proclaimed, shortly after his first practice in Toronto Thursday afternoon.ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Jim Schwartzs emotions have gotten the best of him at least a few times publicly as coach of the Detroit Lions. The latest example happened in what might be the last time he leads the Lions at home. When Detroit ran the ball instead of having turnover-prone Matthew Stafford throw late in regulation of Sundays 23-20 overtime loss to the New York Giants, the crowd reacted with a loud chorus of boos. Schwartz responded by looking away from the field and toward the stands to shout something. "I probably should have done just what I did at the end of the second quarter and just kept it in my mind," Schwartz said Monday. The previous day at his postgame news conference, the embattled coach insisted he wasnt responding to the fans who voiced their displeasure with the decision to play for overtime. Detroit had the ball at its 25 with 23 seconds and two timeouts left, needing to gain about 40 yards to give David Akers a legitimate shot to attempt a winning kick. The Lions ran it once and let the clock run out in regulation, leading to perhaps a predictable response from a crowd that has endured a lot of losing and lost opportunities by the hapless franchise. But it was unusual to see an NFL coach shout back at jeering fans. "I just wanted to say, Dont you know what the situation is and the risk reward of doing something other than what we did right there?" Schwartz explained. Schwartzs temper has flared up in the past for everyone to see. He negated a video review and was called for unsportsmanlike conduct by angrily throwing a challenge flag last season when Houstons Justin Forsett scored after two Lions tackled him, leading to a defeat during an eight-game, season-ending slide. The previous year, Schwartz had a heated exchange with San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh and had to be separated following theirr postgame handshake.dddddddddddd Losing, though, is what may get Schwartz fired. The Lions eliminated themselves from the NFC North title race by losing five of their last six games -- blowing fourth-quarter lead in each of those setbacks -- after a 6-3 record put them in a favourable position. If Detroit (7-8) won one more game, it would be closing the regular season at Minnesota (4-10-1) with a chance to earn its first division title since 1993 because both Green Bay and Chicago lost on Sunday. "That made it even tougher to swallow for sure," Schwartz said. Schwartz got his first shot to be a head coach in 2009 when the Lions were coming off the NFLs first 0-16 season. The Lions improved in each of his first three seasons, including in 2011 when they ended the franchises 11-year post-season drought. They flopped to a 4-12 record last year and are falling apart again this season. "Weve come up short the last two years," Schwartz acknowledged. Schwartz is 29-50 overall and his .367 winning percentage is the worst by an NFL coach in his first five full seasons since John McKay won fewer than 30 per cent of his games with the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1976-1980, according to STATS. "I know where we were when I took over and I know where we are right now," he said. "Were still working. Were still battling. We still have another game to play this year." NOTES: Schwartz said WR Calvin Johnson, slowed by knee and ankle injuries, wont be kept out against the Vikings unless theres a medical reason to put him on the inactive list for the game. ... TE Dorin Dickerson and CB Bill Bentley will be evaluated this week after getting concussions against the Giants. .. Schwartz said Dickerson didnt report his concussion to the team during the game and said Bentley was briefly unconscious. cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
