HAMILTON, Ont. -- The Oklahoma City Barons entered Sundays game in the midst of a battle for playoff positioning. Their urgent need of points, against a team long since eliminated from post-season contention, showed in the Barons performance. Yann Danis made 24 saves for his first shutout of the season, as the Barons defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-0 in the American Hockey League on Sunday. The Bulldogs head coach Sylvain Lefebvre acknowledged that the Barons appeared the hungrier of the two sides. "There were bad bounces that led to goals," said Lefebvre. "We gave up a lot of shots, but not overly dangerous chances against. But we didnt generate anything, and we spent too much time in our own zone. "They were desperate for points and they played well, and we ran out of gas." Philippe Cornet, Mark Arcobello, Jonathan Cheechoo and Toni Rajala scored for the Barons (37-24-11). With the win, Oklahoma City claimed sole possession of seventh in the AHLs Western Conference, with four games left to play. Jacob Gervais-Chouinard stopped 36 shots in a losing effort, as the Bulldogs (28-39-6) suffered their fourth-consecutive loss. Much as they had in their last appearance at Copps Coliseum on Friday, the Bulldogs endured a terrible start to Sundays game. Cornet opened the scoring on the Barons third shot, at 3:41 of the opening period. The puck bounced to Cheechoo at the right faceoff dot, and the winger fired an off-balance shot that handcuffed Gervais-Chouinard. The rebound fluttered over the goaltenders head, and Cornet was on hand to sweep it into the empty net. Things went from bad to worse for Hamilton, when Oklahoma City doubled its advantage just 20 seconds later. Gervais-Chouinard struggled once again to control a routine rebound, and Arcobello swooped in to deposit the Barons second goal from close range at 4:11 of the first. It was a reassuring start for Danis and Oklahoma City, even while much work remained to be done. "It helps, whenever you know that you have the goal support," said the goaltender. "It makes your job easier. But, having said that, it hasnt been a sure thing for us when we score first. "But Ive got to give credit to the guys tonight. They played a full 60 minutes and it was good to see." Oklahoma City outplayed Hamilton by a wide margin in the opening period, out-shooting the Bulldogs 18-7 and keeping possession in their zone for long stretches. That trend continued into the second, as the Barons forced a flurry of saves from Gervais-Chouinard while enjoying an early power play. The young goaltender had settled in well after a shaky start, but could do little to stop Cheechoo from extending the Barons lead to three at 9:26 of the second period. The winger lost his defender and streaked to the front of the Hamilton net, and Rajala found him with a cross-ice pass from the left corner. Cheechoo kicked the puck to his stick as Gervais-Chouinard overplayed the pass, and calmly tucked it into the open net for his second point of the game. The Bulldogs bemoaned their luck after falling behind by three goals for the third-consecutive game. "I think its the little details that bring momentum and lose it," said winger Alex Belzile. "Sometimes, theyre lucky bounces that arent falling to our side." Hamilton appeared to be finally finding its collective legs as the second period wound to a close. Patrick Holland came closest to finding the Bulldogs first goal with 5:30 to play in the period. A loose puck fell to him at the right hash marks, and only a timely block by a Baron defencemen kept Hollands wrist shot from the open net. Danis was rarely called upon on Sunday, but produced two saves to deny a streaking Louis Leblanc from point-blank range and preserve his shutout bid with 14 minutes to play. He admitted that maintaining focus can be difficult with so little work to do. "Those games are not always easy, but you cant exactly ask the guys to allow shots," said Danis. "We did our jobs and thats all you can ask for." Oklahoma City added a fourth goal to seal the result at 9:11 of the third, when Rajala stole the puck behind the Hamilton net and banked an intended centering pass off Bulldog Petteri Nokelainen and in. Making matters worse, Hamilton lost forwards Michael Bournival and Holland to injuries over the course of Sundays game. cheap nfl jerseys . -- Canadas Aleksandra Wozniak missed on a match point as she lost a third-round, three-hour struggle to Venus Williams on Sunday at the Sony Ericsson Open. nfl jerseys china . “That was one of the goals we wanted to create is when teams come into this building theres no more of this two points, kiss your relatives and go home,” said Randy Carlyle following a fifth straight victory at the Air Canada Centre on Tuesday night. http://www.cheapnfljerseyschinapla... . -- The first matchup between Kyrie Irving and Damian Lillard turned into a huge night for the reigning Rookie of the Year. Then, Week 7 yielded three major losses, a defeat at the hands of the 1-4 Washington Redskins, the loss of linebacker Lance Briggs and the loss of quarterback Jay Cutler.PHILADELPHIA -- While Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson are eager to know who will be the Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback, its clear Chip Kelly isnt picking a guy before training camp. Kellys logic makes sense to others. "I havent been evaluating our quarterbacks because Im focused on the offensive line but I really dont see the point of Chip Kelly naming a starting QB before camp," veteran Evan Mathis told The Associated Press on Wednesday. "This is an entirely new coaching staff with an entirely new offence, which isnt even fully installed yet. Its not rocket science; whoever the coaches feel will help the team the most will win the job after proving himself in training camp and preseason." Vick and Nick Foles competed along with rookie Matt Barkley throughout the teams spring practices. Dennis Dixon and G.J. Kinne also took reps. "To make any decisions on who someone is from wearing shorts and T-shirts, doesnt make sense to us," Kelly said last week. Thats why a starter wont be named by the time training camp opens July 22. Of course, Vick and Jackson prefer to know now. "Hopefully, Chip makes a decision before training camp and we wont have to answer that question," Vick told the media last week, "so we can go out there as quarterbacks and just focus on this season and not answer questions about competition every day." Jackson, the two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, echoed those thoughts when asked about the quarterback competition in an interview with the NFL Network on Tuesday. "So far, I dont know, it has been kind of even. Vick and Foles have been switching off (with) first team (and) second team," Jackson said. "So its the same thing with them. I have been hearing some things about Vick saying that he wants to know. At the same time, the team wants to know, too. We need to go into training camp prepared and know who is going to be our starting quarterback.dddddddddddd. "Whether its Foles or Vick, I think they would both do a great job and we will be ready for the season." All that matters is Kellys opinion. He wants to see the players compete in pads at camp and in games in August. Now, its just too close to call. "Theyre both coachable. They both want to win. Theyre both here as many hours as they possibly can be here. They both really work at the game and want to get better," Kelly said. "Doesnt matter how long Mikes been in the league or Nick or what systems hes come from. Theyre both really wrapping around what (quarterbacks coach) Billy (Lazor) and (offensive co-ordinator) Pat (Shurmur) are teaching them. "So, I think its fun." Vick, a four-time Pro Bowl pick, has battled injuries and inconsistency the last two years after having his best all-around season as a pro in 2010. Foles, a third-round pick last year, was 1-5 as a starter last year on a team that finished 4-12. Foles completed 60.8 per cent of his passes for 1,699 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions, but couldnt save former coach Andy Reids job. "The only thing thats in my control is what I do on the field," Foles said after the team finished minicamp. "I dont go to sleep at night, sweating, wondering where I am (on the depth chart). What I can do is work hard, come out, be on the field and be a leader to these guys. Execute the plays. "Make the guys around me better." Of the five quarterbacks on the roster, Dixon is most familiar with Kelly. Dixon had a standout career at Oregon when Kelly was offensive co-ordinator with the Ducks, but has only started three games in five seasons in the NFL. He spent last year with the Super Bowl-champion Baltimore Ravens on their practice squad. "He keeps everyone on their toes," Dixon said of Kelly. "As an athlete, you have to be ready. Whenever your name is called, you have to be ready." cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
