EDMONTON -- February is certainly becoming a month to remember for Ray Whitney and the Phoenix Coyotes. Whitney had a goal as the streaking Coyotes beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 on Saturday to move atop the Pacific Division. Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Shane Doan also scored for the Coyotes (32-21-9), whove won five straight to improve to 10-0-1 this month. Goalie Mike Smith is also on a roll, stopping 21 shots for his 10th consecutive win. Martin Hanzal added two assists. Whitney said his team cant get overconfident despite its recent run. "Were happy with what we have done," he said. "Weve played well at times and competed hard most of the time. "But we have to be careful not to get too excited or overconfident because of how things have gone. Weve played well, but if you look at our schedule we have beat five teams that arent in the playoffs this month and caught a couple teams that were struggling. We have to keep our feet grounded and remember that we are not there yet. We are not in the top-five or six in the league yet." Doan said the Coyotes have been opportunistic during their streak. "We talked about making February a big month for us and it has been," Doan said. "Weve taken advantage of being at home a little bit more and having some time to rest. "We know March is going to be a tough grind though. We have a long way to go to the finish and we have to make sure we take care of business in our next little homestand." Ryan Nugent-Hopkins replied for the Oilers (24-31-6), who lost for the first time in three games. Edmonton got off to a bad start in the contest and was never really able to claw its way back into it. "Giving up the first two makes it a tough hill to climb against a team like that," said forward Taylor Hall. "We made it really hard on ourselves." Added captain Shawn Horcoff: "I thought we did a better job in the second and third periods. Theyre a disciplined team thats tough to play against, especially when you are trailing." Phoenix got a break to open the scoring just under six minutes in. A shot which was going wide of the net by Ekman-Larsson hit the leg of Edmonton defender Jeff Petry and bounced past surprised Oiler goalie Devan Dubnyk. However, less than a minute later Edmonton got a break of its own. Phoenixs Lauri Korpikoski attempted a wraparound and the puck remained sitting on the ice between Dubnyks legs. Antoine Vermette poked it in but it was ruled he had done so after the referee had blown down the play to keep it a 1-0 game. The Coyotes took a 2-0 lead late in the first as Whitney blazed past Oiler defender Ryan Whitney then slid the puck through Dubnyks legs. It was Whitneys 12th point in his last seven games against the Oilers, a team he was the stickboy for as a kid. Edmonton scored eight minutes into the third as Ales Hemsky threw a puck in front and Nugent-Hopkins deftly deflected it past Smith for his 14th of the season. However, Doan cemented the win for Phoenix with just over two minutes remaining. He blasted a shot from the top of the circle past Dubnyk high to the glove side for his 20th goal of the season. Edmonton travels to Winnipeg on Monday while the Coyotes are off until Tuesday when they play host to Vancouver. NOTES: It was the third of four meetings between the two teams this season. Phoenix won the first two at home by identical 4-2 scores, getting the goals from eight different players... Oilers head coach Tom Renney returned behind the bench to guide the team after missing five games with a concussion after taking a puck to the head in practice... Nugent-Hopkins returned to the lineup after missing 20 of the last 22 games with shoulder injuries. Despite his lengthy absence he came into the game trailing New Jerseys Adam Henrique by just six points for the rookie scoring lead with 35 points in 40 games to Henriques 41 in 52 games... To make room on the roster for Nugent-Hopkins, fellow rookie Anton Lander was sent down to Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League... Oiler forward Magnus Paajarvi played despite suffering what looked like could be a bad knee injury Friday against Philadelphia... Phoenix forward Gilbert Brule (head) didnt face his former team after being injured against Los Angeles. Defenceman Derek Morris (personal) is out indefinitely while defenceman Rostislav Klesla (upper body) and forward Kyle Chipchura (wrist) are on injured reserve. Chaussure Nike Air Max 90 Pour Femme . This time, they found a way to avoid another meltdown. Will Venable hit his second home run of the season and the Padres pounced on Tim Lincecum in a 5-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Monday, getting a small dose of satisfaction against the defending World Series champions. . Kingsbury missed a chance to break Jeremy Blooms 2005 record of six World Cup wins in a row. Like his one-time idol, Kingsbury followed his six-event winning streak with a second-place showing. The 26-year-old Brunnstrom scored three goals in his first four pre-season games while playing on a pro tryout contract. Combined with an injury to Jan Mursak, it was enough to earn a roster spot.DALLAS -- Dirk Nowitzki went home from his latest dramatic performance in the NBA finals, took a shower then slurped some chicken soup and hot tea. After a good nights rest, he returned to work Wednesday still dealing with a slight temperature and the sniffles, so he took it easy. For a few hours. Nowitzki said he was planning to be back in the gym later Wednesday to put up some shots and "at least get the body used to sweating a little bit." With only two or three games left this post-season, Nowitzki figures he will soon have plenty of time to deal with a sinus infection and everything else that ails him. So hes determined to put whatever energy he has left into getting the two wins he and the Dallas Mavericks need to become NBA champions for the first time. "At this stage, after playing eight, nine months on a high level ... nobody is completely healthy," Nowitzki said. "So its time to fight through some stuff." Nowitzki is fighting as hard as anyone. He tore the tendon at the tip of his left middle finger during Game 1, then led a winning rally at the end of Game 2, even scoring two of his final three baskets using his wounded hand. He scored Dallas final 12 points in Game 3, but missed his final shot at the buzzer when he couldve forced overtime. The morning of Game 4, he showed up for a shootaround "looking like a ghost," said Donnie Nelson, the teams president of basketball operations. Club officials sent him to the locker room, then to his house with all sorts of medicine. Before the game, no one knew what to expect. Of course Nowitzki was going to try playing. But how long would he last? How good would he be? "Dirk is a playful guy and outgoing and outspoken when it comes to the locker room," centre Tyson Chandler said. "Seeing him not being playful and not really saying much and kind of sitting in his locker, I knew it was going to be a tough night for him." All seemed well when Nowitzki opened the game by hitting three straight shots. Then he missed 10-of-11. He also misfired on a free throw, ending his second run of 39 in a row this post-season. By then, the secret about Nowitzkis illness was out. He was wheezing, coughing and doing all he could to fight the effects of a 101-degree fever. "His wind didnt look the same," guard Jason Terry said. "But for the most part he was intense, he was locked in, he was focused." Nowitzki scored 10 of his 21 points and grabbed five of his 11 rebounds while the Mavs pulled off another late comeback, erasing a nine-poinnt deficit with 10:12 left.dddddddddddd. This rally kept them from falling into the black hole of a 3-1 deficit, instead putting them right back in the thick of things at 2-2. Comparisons instantly were made to Michael Jordan scoring 38 points in Game 5 of the 1997 finals while battling a fever of 103. Nelson called it "our version of Willis Reed," except Reed only had the first four points for the New York Knicks when he made his dramatic appearance for the tipoff of Game 7 of the 1970 finals. "I think last night was one of the most inspirational, gut performances in Mavs history," Nelson said. "If he doesnt tough it out and if he doesnt come back, there is no way (the Mavs win). I dont even know how he was standing in that fourth quarter because that was a physically taxing game. Hats off. Were here at 2-2 because of him. ... Like all great players, you just find a way. You shut off the physical. All great players have that psyche. Their mind is able to overcome whatever limitations they have." Apparently, even on an off day, as evidence by Nowitzkis plans to return to the arena later in the day. Nelson didnt know about that plan, but also wasnt surprised. "He better be feeling real good if thats the case," Nelson said, laughing. "Hell probably do a little free throws, a little technical stuff. Hes a big boy now. He understands that he cant be burning up energy now like he could when he was 22." Nowitzki has plenty of company on the injured list. Backup centre Brendan Haywood lasted only three minutes in Game 4 because of a hip injury that kept him out the previous game. He said Wednesday "well see" when asked about his chances of playing in Game 5. Chandler picked up the slack by playing a team-high 43 minutes. Shawn Marion was limited to 26 minutes after playing a team-high 43 the previous game. Terry is also getting over a bone bruise in his shooting wrist sustained in Game 1. And dont forget about Nowitzkis damaged digit. At a news conference Wednesday, his left middle finger was held straight with a tongue depressor taped under it as a makeshift splint. Hey, its the playoffs. Whatever it takes. "Basically, for a month and a half, two months, youre living on the edge every night," Nowitzki said. "Youre thinking about it, eat, breathe, sleep basketball, and thats whats fun about the playoffs, but also very draining. "We have one more week to go, both teams, and were going to go for it. Both teams are going to get their vacation afterwards." [url=http://www.cheapauthenticjerseyschina.net/]cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
