ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Los Angeles Angels had scored only one run over the last 30 innings on their 1-6 road trip. Once they got back home, they started knocking around former Oakland nemesis Tim Hudson. Ervin Santana pitched a four-hitter for his sixth career shutout and the Angels welcomed Hudson back to the Big A for the first time in almost seven years with a six-run third inning that carried them to a 9-0 rout of the Atlanta Braves on Friday night. "We needed it. Weve been struggling, but tonight we put everything together," Santana said. "We just have to keep doing our job and stay positive. When the run support is like that, you have to feel comfortable." In the first interleague game of the season for both teams, Santana (2-4) went the distance for the 10th time in 180 career starts. He struck out seven, and walked none for the first time in 10 starts this season. "They were swinging at everything," Santana said. "So I just said to myself, Just keep the ball down and throw strikes. To me, the difference was concentration. I was completely calm. I just saw the glove and tried to put it right there." Only four players on the Braves roster had faced Santana before -- Chipper Jones, Brian McCann, Eric Hinske and Alex Gonzalez, who were a combined 2 for 13 -- including two singles by Hinske. "Lets not take any credit away from Santana. He was pretty good. In fact, he was better than good -- real good," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "We had a couple of guys who had seen him before, and we had enough reports and film. So that shouldnt have been a problem." Santana got offensive help from Mark Trumbo with a three-run homer and Alberto Callaspo with three RBIs. The run total matched the Angels entire output in their previous five games combined. In four of Santanas previous six starts, his teammates didnt score while he was in the game. "Its awesome," Trumbo said. "The starting pitchers have been doing more than their share of the job, and we need to start picking it up and taking a little of the pressure off their backs." Hudson (4-4) threw 77 pitches over 3 2-3 innings, allowing eight runs, seven hits and three walks. The 13-year veteran, facing the Angels for the first time since an 8-4 interleague loss in Atlanta on June 8, 2005, also hit three batters -- one more than he plunked in 62 1-3 innings during his nine previous starts this season. It was the third time in 354 starts that the three-time All-Star hit three batters in a game. He also did it April 21, 2004, at Seattle in a 7-4 victory with Oakland, and June 11 of that season in a 6-1 interleague win against Pittsburgh. Hudson made his first start at Angel Stadium since June 22, 2004, with the Athletics, when he lost 6-1. He came in 13-6 with a 3.49 ERA in 24 career starts against the Angels. "It was an uphill battle from the start. I wasnt making pitches and it just wasnt a good night," Hudson said. "I guess Im just not very good in the American League anymore, apparently." Peter Bourjos, the Angels No. 9 hitter, triggered the teams most productive inning of the season with a leadoff double that ended an 0-for-23 drought. Bobby Abreu had an RBI double, Torii Hunter singled home another run and Abreu scored on Hank Congers groundout. Trumbo capped the rally with his seventh homer, which landed behind the double-decker bullpen in left field. "The plan was to get the ball up, because hes obviously got a really good sinker," Trumbo said. "But more than anything, it was about being determined. Its time for us to go out there and play like were capable of. And if were going down, were going down swinging. Theres no more tentative baseball. Weve had flashes of the way we can play, so were going to come out and play hard and see what happens." Hudson opened the fourth by hitting his first two batters -- Bourjos on an 0-1 pitch and Maicer Izturis on a full count. Both advanced on Erick Aybars bunt, and Fredi Gonzalez went to the mound with assistant trainer Jim Lovell to check on Hudson, whose back had stiffened up. The right-hander then walked Abreu and struck out Hunter before Callaspo chased him with a two-run single that made it 8-0. "Ive never been one to make excuses and Im not going to make excuses now," Hudson said. "I dont think its something I cant deal with. I felt better (on the mound) than I did when I was backing up third base. But it definitely wasnt one of my better nights, thats for sure." Callaspo came up with the bases loaded again in the sixth against Cristhian Martinez and drove in the Angels final run with a groundout. NOTES: With the Braves able to use a DH in an American League ballpark, Jones filled that role and was 0 for 3 without hitting a ball out of the infield. LF Martin Prado started at 3B in Jones place for the sixth time this season. ... Scot Shields, the rubber-armed setup man for the Angels bullpen and a member of the 2002 World Series championship club, threw out a ceremonial first pitch. He announced his retirement on March 18 at age 35 after 10 big league seasons, all with the Angels. A knee injury limited him to 63 appearances over the last two seasons. wholesale nfl jerseys . Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will take on top contender Junior Dos Santos in front of the crowd at Rogers Arena, according to a report by MMAjunkie. cheap nfl jerseys . Maybe he was a little tired Sunday night. Now the Miami Heat star will likely have more restless nights ahead before Game 2 on Wednesday night. James picked up two first-quarter fouls, had an off-night offensively shooting just 5-for-15, and the Heats defence became unglued in the second half Sunday night as the Bulls took control in a 103-82 victory. The Ottawa Senators had trouble scoring in 2013, but with D Erik Karlsson and C Jason Spezza healthy, there is a good chance that they will be able to score more often in 2013-2014. Top Picks: While some players coming an injury-marred season might have shaky value, that wont be the case for D Erik Karlsson, who only played 17 games because of an Achilles injury, but hes such a ridiculous offensive performer that he has an argument for being a first-round pick because he has 92 points in 98 games over the past two seasons. His 0.94 is best among defenceman; Pittsburghs Kris Letang (0.93) is the only other defenceman over 0.75 points per game in the last two years. Karlsson also registered 4.65 shots on goal per game last season. Its obviously a small sample, but the only defencemen to ever average more in a season (min. 10 GP) are Bobby Orr and Raymond Bourque. On the heels of losing Daniel Alfredsson as a free agent, the Senators made a deal for RW Bobby Ryan, a net upgrade in talent. Last season, Ryan had 11 goals in 46 games (a career-low 0.24 gpg), yet he ranks 14th with 142 goals since 2008-2009, tied for sixth with 106 goals at even strength. In Anaheim, Ryan didnt always get first unit power play time, something that should change in Ottawa, where his goal-scoring will be welcome, making Ryan a low-end No. 1 and high level No. 2 right winger. Understand, coming into the season, that G Craig Anderson is going to see his numbers regress -- he will not have a .941 save percentage over a full season, for example -- but his .919 save percentage since 2007-2008 ranks seventh and hes the starter for what appears to be a strong team so, even with regression, hes a decent No. 1 fantasy goaltender. Value Plays: Since 2005-2006, C Jason Spezza has scored 545 points in 500 games, his 1.09 points per game ranking fifth (minimum 200 games played) in that span. Trouble is, Spezza has missed at least 20 games in three of the last four seasons, including last year when back woes cost him 43 of 48 games. Obviously, Spezza is quite valuable when hes in the lineup, but it becomes a risk-reward pick for fantasy owners when you go into the season expecting a player to miss a significant amount of time. As much as C Kyle Turris has improved and seen his role increase in Ottawa, scoring 58 points in 97 games, he has yet to score even 30 points in an NHL season.dddddddddddd As a late-round pick, playing on the potential of a 23-year-old, sure, hes worth a look, but keep expectations in check. LW Clarke MacArthur had back-to-back 20-goal seasons in Toronto before his role was reduced in 2013. If he lands a top-six role with the Senators, another 20-goal season could be within reach. Sleepers/Breakthrough: Its not secret that LW Milan Michalek can score, and a spot on Jason Spezzas wing is a nice place to work but, like Spezza, Michalek comes with an injury risk, having missed at least 15 games in three of the last four seasons. Hes a five-time 20-goal scorer, topping out at 35 in 2011-2012, but any pick of Michalek has to be done with expectations that hell miss some time. It took some time for C/LW Mika Zibanejad to adjust to North America, managing a modest 11 points in 23 AHL games before adding 20 points in 42 NHL games. Hes already established that hes an NHLer, but Zibanejad may not play in enough of an offensive role to generate fantasy interest so soon. Now that Sergei Gonchar is toiling in Dallas, D Patrick Wiercioch is looking at a favourable opportunity to handle more minutes in his second NHL season. G Robin Lehner has given every indication that hes going to be a very good starting goaltender in the league, posting a .936 save percentage in 17 NHL games over the last two seasons. He doesnt have great value as long as he sits behind Anderson on the depth chart but, as backups go, Lehner is one of the best so long as he continues his career on this path. Rookies: The Senators might have a few rookies challenging for spots in the lineup, but they dont initially appear to be relevant for fantasy purposes. C Jean-Gabriel Pageau had 10 points in 19 (regular season plus playoff) games for Ottawa last season, but after 29 points in 69 AHL games, he cant be expected to take a scoring role. RW Mark Stone is another candidate for a spot on a scoring line, after scoring 38 points in 54 AHL games as a rookie pro last season. If Stone lands a regular spot, then he might have value but, right now, its too soon to make that projection.
