VANCOUVER -- Canadas Milos Raonic pulled out of a key Davis Cup reverse singles match against France due to a knee injury Sunday. Frank Dancevic of Niagara Falls, Ont., got the call to replace Raonic against sixth-ranked Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Canada needed a victory to force a deciding match in the best-of-five tie. Raonic, the world No. 29 from Thornhill, Ont., experienced some pain in his knee after Saturdays doubles match. The lineup change was announced about an hour before play was scheduled to begin. Rules required the switch to be made within 60 minutes of the start of the match. "After our doubles match (Saturday) I consulted with my team, and a team of doctors regarding some pain in my knee," Raonic said in a release. "After extensive discussions, the doctors determined it is not in my best interest to play today. "We are continuing to explore the reasoning behind the pain, and taking it day by day. Obviously I am extremely disappointed to not be able to play for my team today." Both countries picked up a win in the opening singles matches Friday. France pulled ahead when Michael Llodra and Julien Benneteau beat Raonic and Torontos Daniel Nestor 7-6 (1), 7-6 (2), 6-3. Dancevic, 31, drew his first start of the weekend in the opening reverse singles match. Vancouver resident Vasek Pospisil was expected to play Benneteau in the final match later Sunday. Once Canadas top singles player, Dancevic has dropped to third in the country behind Raonic and 115th-ranked Pospisil. Now ranked 178th in the world, he has spent the last year trying to rebuild his game. In 2011, he became the first Canadian to qualify for all four Grand Slam events in the same calendar year. Sundays appearance was his 27th Davis Cup match. He entered with a 13-13 record, including both singles and doubles, in 16 ties. His singles record was 10-13 and he is 3-0 in doubles. Dancevics most memorable Davis Cup moment came in 2003 in Calgary when he defeated Brazils Flavio Saretta to give Canada only its second berth in World Group play. The winner of the tie will take on the United States in the World Group quarter-finals in April. Most concerning for Gay continues to be his missed shots around the rim, an ongoing trend this season. Gay was just two-for-seven in the painted area against the Suns and his percentages around the bucket have dropped significantly compared to his career norm. "Its tough because hes getting hit, but he has to hit first," Casey said of Gays struggles in the paint. "Hes not getting the benefit of the calls, but some of them are not fouls. He has to go in there and hit first and think about dunking the ball rather than finessing." Johnson fills in for injured Hansbrough The Raptors certainly missed the toughness of Tyler Hansbrough, who exited the game just two and a half minutes in after taking an inadvertent elbow from Channing Frye and spraining his left shoulder. He did not return and is considered day-to-day. In his place, Amir Johnson, who lost his starting gig to Hansbrough last week, stepped up and chipped in a season-best 22 points in 33 minutes off the bench. It was the second-straight game in which Johnson resembled his old self, a positive sign for this team moving forward, especially if Hansbrough is forced to miss time.
