GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Blake Bortles rolled right, crashed into two defenders and floated a pass to an open receiver just before going down. The two players who had a beat on Central Floridas quarterback stayed on the ground, each pounding their hands into the turf as the receiver ran up the sideline. Out of reach all game, the Knights pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the bowl season by outlasting the nations top offensive team in a rousing BCS debut. Bortles stymied Baylor with his arm and legs while accounting for four touchdowns, Storm Johnson ran for three more scores and No. 15 Central Florida turned the highest-scoring Fiesta Bowl into a big-play party by outlasting the sixth-ranked Bears 52-42 on Wednesday night. "Theres not many outside of us who believe we had a chance, but we did and I think we showed what UCF football is all about," Bortles said. Central Florida (12-1) wasnt given much of a chance at all, entering the game as a 17-point underdog. The Knights didnt care about the spread and certainly didnt back down from the big, bad Bears, racing past Baylor with an array of big plays. They took an early 14-point lead and kept rolling, piling up 556 total yards in the second-highest scoring BCS bowl ever. Bortles, the junior who could be weighing a jump to the NFL, was the catalyst, throwing for three touchdowns on 20-of-31 passing and running for 93 yards and another score. Rannell Hall accounted for some of the biggest plays, catching four passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson kept Baylor from ganging up on UCFs passing game, grinding out 124 yards on 20 carries. So much about having no shot. "Its a great win, a great feeling for everyone whos been through the program," UCF coach George OLeary said. Known for its offence prowess, Baylor (11-2) had a hard time keeping up with the Knights. The Big 12 champions finished with 550 total yards, but were uncharacteristically undisciplined, getting 17 penalties for 135 yards. Bryce Petty tried to keep the Bears in it, running for three touchdowns while throwing for 356 yards and two more scores. Lache Seastrunk had some big runs in the first half and finished with 117 yards. None of it was enough the way UCF ran through Baylors defence. "We caught a football team that was hot," Baylor coach Art Briles said. "They played extremely well early, got into us. We tried to play catch up the whole game, never could turn it around when it needed turning." The Fiesta Bowl was the BCS coming-out party for Baylor and Central Florida before college footballs switch to a playoff system next season. The Bears had been building toward this since Briles became coach in 2009, winding up his high-octane offence to lead the nation in scoring and churn out the second-most yards in FBS history. Central Florida had a slower rise under OLeary. The coach who was fired by Notre Dame five days after being hired for lying on his resume has built his reputation back up in Orlando, taking a program that went winless in 2004 to the inaugural American Athletic Conference title and automatic BCS berth this year. The matchup was projected to be like the 2011 Fiesta Bowl, when mighty Oklahoma rolled over Connecticut 48-20. The Knights werent listening. They opened with a 76-yard scoring drive capped by Johnsons tackle-breaking 11-yard touchdown run. Johnson scored again on UCFs next possession, this one on a 2-yard run. The early 14-0 lead was expected. The team leading wasnt. Baylor finally revved up its offence late in the first quarter, scoring on a 1-yard TD sneak by Petty and Central Florida looked as if it was ready to fall apart with turnovers on three consecutive plays. Baylor only turned one of those into points: a 30-yard pass from Petty to Levi Norwood. Petty followed Johnsons fumble with an interception in the end zone, just his third of the season. "Unfortunately, that was the turning point in the game," Petty said. "We needed that to save momentum up for us, especially after a turnover. Turnovers in the red zone kill an offence." Then came the spectacular plays, seemingly one after another. Hall darted and dashed through Baylors defence for a 50-yard touchdown on a screen pass, with help from Josh Reeses downfield block. Petty hurtled himself into the end zone, flipping over UCFs Brandon Alexander to cap a 13-yard run. That gave Baylor 659 points, breaking the NCAA record for a 13-game season set by Texas (652) in 2005. The momentum was gone shortly after, when Hall turned a swing pass into a 34-yard touchdown -- assisted again by Reese -- to put the Knights up 28-20 at halftime. Petty scored his third touchdown on 1-yard run in the third quarter and dashed in for the 2-point conversion to tie the game, but Central Florida still wouldnt back down. Bortles hit Breshad Perriman on a 10-yard touchdown pass and opened the fourth quarter by scoring on a 15-yard run to put the Knights up 42-28. Even after Baylor moved quickly for a 9-yard touchdown run by Glasco Martin, UCF had an answer, going up 49-35 on Johnsons 40-yard run through the heart of the Bears defence. Nike Roshe Run Uomo . Endy Chavez had a run-scoring double for the Rangers, while starter Derek Holland threw five solid innings, giving up an unearned run on five hits and a walk. Glenn returned to the field and led his Stampeders on a five-play, 51-yard drive that culminated in his game-winning touchdown pass to Larry Taylor as Calgary held on for a wild 31-30 win over the Edmonton Eskimos in the annual Labour Day clash between the rivals. "Larry ran the perfect route," said Glenn, who completed 23-of-30 passes for 273 yards to go with two touchdowns and two interceptions. "He was wide open and all I had to do was give him the ball." The Stampeders (5-4) offence scored the winning TD with 63 seconds remaining to edge out Edmonton (5-4). "You could see it in the guys eyes after that pick when they came to the sidelines that they still had faith," Glenn said. "They still had faith to say Hey were going to win this game, and thats big. Thats big when you get in a situation like that and still know that guys have got your back." Calgary defensive back Tad Kornegay knew that Glenn had it in him to redeem himself after Edmontons Joe Burnett picked off the errant pass and ran it back 34 yards for a touchdown to put the Eskimos up 30-25. "When Kevin went out for that last drive when we were down, I told Kevin, Be the hero. This is what we do it for. You made the mistake. You threw a pick. Who cares? We got the ball back. Be a hero. And thats what he did," Kornegay said. Rookies Bo Levi Mitchell and Matt Walter had rushing touchdowns for the Stampeders, who had lost their previous two home games. Glenn also threw a touchdown pass to Jon Cornish, Rene Paredes kicked a field goal, while Rob Maver booted a single. Filling in for injured starter Steven Jyles, Kerry Joseph plunged into the end zone for a one-yard score at 8:07 of the final quarter. Burnetts touchdown then gave the Eskimos a short-lived lead. "It was disappointing," said Joseph, who went 17-of-27 for 311 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. "We came into a hostile environment against a good football team. We fought to the end. They made some plays towards the end. We had a chance to win it at the end but we didnt. Youve got to tip your hats to those guys." Joseph also tossed touchdown passes to Fred Stamps and Hugh Charles in the second quarter, while Grant Shaw kicked three singles. "Calgary did what they needed to do to win the football game," said Edmonton coach Kavis Reed. "They executed mentally, physically and emotionally and we did not." On the last play of the game, Shaw attempted a 48-yard field goal into the wind, but the ball sailed wide to the left and Taylor ran it out of the end zone as time expired. "Its aawesome," said Taylor of making the play to preserve the victory.dddddddddddd "You have to give the guys credit up front for holding the guys at the line and giving me the chance to get it out of the end zone." The same two teams wont have much time to rest as a rematch is set for Friday at Edmontons Commonwealth Stadium. "I love it," Kornegay said. "Well both be sore still, tired ... angry. Itll be another good game." The Stampeders appeared poised to score on their opening drive of the game before Edmontons Clint Kent recovered a Nik Lewis fumble. Five plays later, Burke Dales was tackled for a loss deep in Edmonton territory after he couldnt handle a low snap from Ryan King cleanly. Calgary then opened the scoring when Mitchell plunged into the end zone for a one-yard touchdown at 8:17 of the first quarter. With the Stampeders threatening to score again in the second quarter, Edmontons Rod Williams picked off an errant pass by Glenn and ran for eight yards to give Eskimos the ball back on their own 17-yard line. Joseph then engineered a 10-play, 93-yard drive that culminated in a 35-yard touchdown pass to Stamps. On Edmontons next drive, Joseph tossed a 73-yard touchdown pass to Charles, who caught the ball at midfield and broke a tackle before running the rest of the way into the end zone. Although the Eskimos failed to convert the touchdown, Shaw booted an 89-yard single on the ensuing kickoff to give Edmonton a 14-7 lead through two quarters of play. After Shaw kicked a 67-yard punt single to open the scoring in the second half, Cornish caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Glenn at 7:15 of the third quarter. The Eskimos then had to settle for a 64-yard punt single by Shaw before Glenn led the Stampeders on a seven-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in an 11-yard touchdown run by Walter to put Calgary up 21-16 after three quarters. "He was moving like a freight train and I dont think nobody was going to stop him," said Glenn in regards to Walters TD run. It was Walters first-ever CFL touchdown. "I just wanted to make it count," Walter said. "All I wanted to do is do my part and get that thing in the end zone and show the coaches that I can play." Paredes then kicked a 43-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter before Maver booted an 85-yard punt single to extend Calgarys lead. Notes: Joseph has now rushed for a touchdown in three straight games. ... With the return of Jerome Messam to the Edmonton lineup, fellow running back Cory Boyd was a healthy scratch for the Eskimos. ... The Stamps now have a record of 31-25-1 on games played in Calgary on Labour Day, including a 21-25-1 showing against the Eskimos. ...
