If money is being tossed at stadium building or renovations, the Calgary Stampeders want a piece of the action. Team president Lyle Bauer said Monday the Stampeders are looking to upgrade 35,650-seat McMahon Stadium to make it a more comfortable, modern and profitable home for the CFL club. Or if a new stadium is built, the Stampeders would be happy to play in it. Amid talk of new NHL arenas in Edmonton and Calgary, and with CFL teams across the country either building or having just completed new facilities or major refits, he doesnt want his club overlooked. "We want to make sure were out there and make a point that were the only club in the country with a 50-year-old stadium without plans for either a new one or a refurbished one," Bauer said in a telephone interview. McMahon Stadium was built in 1960 for $1.05 million and is owned by the University of Calgary and run by a non-profit organization. It has expanded over the years, and had renovations in 2001 and 2005 mainly to add corporate boxes, but Bauer said more work is needed. He hopes at least to improve the washrooms and concession areas, and add modern infrastructure such as a digital scoreboard and advertising bands that enhance the show for the fans and bring in more sponsorship and advertising revenue. Bauer said extra revenue would help the Stampeders keep pace with other CFL clubs and fund the teams community projects. He said there have been casual talks with various levels of government, but so far no formal plans for the stadium have been made. The club is looking at ways the work could be funded, including guaranteed loans and public-private partnerships. And no time frame has been set for a project that would likely take several years. Until then, theyll make do at McMahon. "I wouldnt say its dire, but (the stadium) is very old," he said. http://www.noni... . Garcia had eight birdies overall to go with a lone bogey on the fourth to move to an 18-under total of 198 at the Asian Tour event. "I was able to hit some really nice shots and then was able to roll two or three really good putts in and it was nice to be able to finish birdie, birdie on this difficult finishing stretch," Garcia said. PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- Winnipeg will most likely host a Heritage Classic soon, though NHL commissioner Gary Bettman sought to clarify that it has not been promised to the Jets for the 2015-16 season. The Winnipeg Free Press reported that the Jets will have a future game at Investors Group Field, and that chairman Mark Chipman wants to hold it in 2016. General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff didnt provide any more details than what was in that report. "I think its a very exciting proposition," Cheveldayoff said Tuesday after the NHLs board of governors meeting. "Certainly lots of work probably needs to get done on it. I think its all very preliminary." Bettman struck the same chord, refusing to confirm the 2016 Heritage Classic in Winnipeg and saying the story "seems to hhave taken on a life of its own.dddddddddddd" "We had a discussion with Mark Chipman where we said wed like to have an outdoor game in Winnipeg, Heritage Classic, and Mark said thats great," Bettman said. "We said were not ready to make any announcements, and what is your preference on dates? He gave us a preference of 16, but theres no formal agreement, announcement or anything else. "Its still a work of progress, but at some point in the next few years, perhaps 16, perhaps not, well have an outdoor game in Winnipeg." The Free Press reported that Chipman was interested in having the Heritage Classic as part of the Jets fifth anniversary season. The Vancouver Canucks are set to host the Ottawa Senators in the Heritage Classic March 2 at BC Place. [url=http://www.cheapchinajerseynfl.us.com/]cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '
