(Sports Network) - Before todays finale against Detroit, former Tiger greats -- and current Diamondback coaches -- Kirk Gibson and Alan Trammell will witness the honoring of the memory of legendary Tigers manager Sparky Anderson. After that, it will be back to business as usual with Gibsons Arizona club looking for a series victory in the rubber match of a three-game set at Comerica Park. Prior to the game, the Tigers will retire the No. 11 worn by Anderson, who passed away last November at the age of 76. Andersons number will be just the seventh retired in club history and he becomes the 10th person, and only second manager, to have his number retired by more than one major league club. Gibson, Arizonas current manager, and Trammell, the bench coach, were both members of Detroits 1984 World Series-winning club that was managed by Anderson. You get locked in what youre doing, Trammell told Detroits website, but Im very happy to be a part of it. I think Gibby is happy, I know he is, that well be able to smile and think about him. It would be better for him to be here and we could hear his words, but its like Tiger Stadium. I have the memories of Sparky ... that nobody can take away. And thats special. After the festivities are over, Gibson and Trammell must find a way to get Arizonas bats going following yesterdays 6-0 defeat at the hands of Detroit ace Justin Verlander. Verlander struck out a career-high 14 batters over eight scoreless innings and become the second player in the majors to reach the 10-win mark. He allowed just four hits and one walk as Detroit rebounded from Fridays 7-6 defeat to move into a virtual tie with Cleveland for first place in the American League Central. Its not a goal of mine to have 10 wins before the break, said Verlander, who hasnt lost since April 27 and threw a no-hitter on May 7. I just go out there every five days and pitch and do everything I can to help this team win. Alex Avila also helped, highlighting a four-RBI game with a three-run homer. Gerardo Parra had a pair of doubles for the Diamondbacks, who failed to win a fifth straight game and also saw their seven-game road winning streak halted. Arizona rookie starter Josh Collmenter had his homecoming game spoiled in six- plus innings. The Homer, Michigan native gave up six runs on 10 hits and fanned four with many of his hometown fans in attendance. I made a couple bad pitches, Collmenter said. Singles are OK, but the double and home run hurt me. I just left some of the pitches over the plate. Now a half-game behind the Giants for first place in the NL West, the D-Backs turn to Joe Saunders, who despite an ominous start to his last outing can win a second straight appearance this afternoon. Saunders was taken deep on his first pitch of Tuesdays outing versus the Royals, but settled down to finish with a line of two runs over seven innings to claim a 7-2 triumph. The lefty improved to 4-2 in his past six starts and 4-7 with a 4.35 earned run average in 15 starts this season. You dont like to see a game started that way, with a home run, Gibson told his teams website. But he settled down and pitched a good game, gave us seven strong innings. A former Angels hurler, the 30-year-old Saunders is just 1-2 with a 5.91 ERA in eight career starts against the Tigers. After suffering a loss against one former team, Tigers right-hander Brad Penny will look to extend his domination of the club that drafted him back in 1996. Penny was nabbed in the fifth round by the Diamondbacks, but never pitched in the majors with the club. He has made them pay ever since, going 10-3 with a 1.99 ERA in 18 career starts against them. The 31-year-old will look to continue that success today and avoid a fourth straight winless start. Penny has lost each of his last two decisions, including a 4-0 loss against his former Dodgers club on Monday in which he gave up two runs on seven hits and three walks over six innings. Still, it was a better effort than his previous outing, when he lasted just 3 1/3 frames in a no-decision against the Indians on June 15. Penny is just 5-6 with a 4.80 ERA in 15 starts this season, but does hold a 2011 home record of 3-2 with a 3.35 ERA in eight games. Arizona has won 16 of 21 as the guest since a 5-13 start on the road and is also 8-3 versus the AL this season. The D-Backs did lose two of three at Detroit in late June a season ago. David Harris Jets Jersey . Headlining the group is 2013 Columbus Blue Jackets first-round draft pick Marko Dano. He is joined by three others drafted by NHL clubs, including Montreal Canadiens prospect Martin Reway. The three draftees eclipses by one the amount named to the selection camp by the rival Czech Republic. Antonio Allen Youth Jersey . Huberdeau, the third-overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, will not be eligible to play in the NHL this season except on an emergency recall, according to TSNs Bob McKenzie. http://www.... . The Canadiens went 2-1-1, but the real story was the long awaited return of Andrei Markov. Despite being victimized by Tyler Ennis on Monday, Markovs performance was encouraging. Then, Week 7 yielded three major losses, a defeat at the hands of the 1-4 Washington Redskins, the loss of linebacker Lance Briggs and the loss of quarterback Jay Cutler. Mark Gastineau Womens Jersey . Jones made 24 saves for his third shutout in five games, and the remarkable rookie led the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. (Sports Network) - The Colorado Rockies were able to end a three-game slide with last nights win over the San Diego Padres and will go for a series victory this afternoon in the finale of a three-game set at Coors Field. The Rockies got a strong start from Juan Nicasio in Tuesdays 6-3 win and he lasted six innings on the mound, allowing two runs and six hits with nine strikeouts and one walk. Matt Lindstrom, Rex Brothers and Huston Street combined to go three innings in relief and allowed one run. Chris Iannetta hit a three-run homer off of Padres reliever Pat Neshek, while Todd Helton, Ty Wigginton and Charlie Blackmon each finished with two hits and an RBI for Colorado, which is 3-3 on a 10-game homestand and won for the seventh time in 13 tries. Just looking to try and get the barrel to it somehow, said Iannetta of the home run. You know, [Neshek] is like a presentation guy, a lot of deception, the ball is coming from weird angles, you know, its tough to see. So it was just a matter of trying to get the barrel to it, trying to see it first of all, and trying to get the barrel to it. Colorado is six games off the pace in the National League West Division and will also host the Detroit Tigers for three games. It will send Jhoulys Chacin to the hill Wednesday afternoon and hes aiming for his third straight win after back-to-back losses. Chacin is coming off eight shutout innings with nine strikeouts in a 6-5 win over Los Angeles on Friday, lifting his mark to 7-4 with a 2.90 ERA in 13 starts. Chacin is 0-0 with a 5.79 ERA in four caareer games (1 start) against the Padres and did not record a decision in a 9-7 loss to them on May 14.ddddddddddddThe righty allowed five runs -- three earned -- in six innings that day. San Diego has lost four of five and six of its last nine games, and didnt get much help from Wade LeBlanc, who allowed three runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 frames for the loss. Neshek allowed the three-run homer to Iannetta. Chris Denorfia homered and Chase Headley recorded four hits for the Padres, who are 1-1 on a nine-game road trip against Colorado, Minnesota and Boston. Somehow, someway, we have to try and figure out how to get those big runs, said Padres outfielder Cameron Maybin, who had two doubles and a run scored in a losing effort. One out, two out, you know, however we can do it, we have to try to figure out a way. We are trying. The effort is there. Mat Latos has been giving a solid effort lately since a dreadful start to the season and will get the nod tonight for the Friars. Even though he lost his previous start in a 2-1 setback versus Washington on Friday, Latos delivered six innings of two-run ball and six strikeouts. Latos had won three straight starts before losing to the Nationals and is 4-7 with a 3.86 earned run average in 12 outings this season. Latos, a right-hander, defeated Colorado on May 15 in an 8-2 win at Coors Field and allowed two runs -- one earned -- through 5 2/3 innings. He is 1-1 with a 4.02 ERA in three career starts against the Rockies. The Padres and Rockies have split eight matchups this season. cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '
