Baby Girl Killed by Family Dog

A 6 week old girl died Saturday night after she was mauled by the family's dog, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The attack occurred in the girl's home in the 15500 block of Fellowship Street in Valinda, an unincorporated area between La Puente and West Covina, Deputy Cruz Solis said. An uncle baby sitting the newborn left the child on a bed unattended while he went to the kitchen to prepare a bottle for her, Solis said.

An animal control officer lost half of her thumb Thursday when she was attacked by a pit bull. Officer Martha Muro, 26, remained hospitalized Thursday evening. Doctors were evaluating whether a recovered portion of the thumb could be reattached, said Capt.
