ComEd customers face big price increases

By Julie Wernau and Tribune staff reporter May 7, 2014

Just as the Chicago area is getting ready for air conditioning weather, residents can expect to be jolted by higher electric bills. Starting June 1, Commonwealth Edison customers on average will see monthly bills jump 21 percent, to about $82 a month from about $69 a month. City residents and others who have switched to competing suppliers won't escape the higher prices because the cost of all electric power is higher. "The increase that was announced today is something that is.

Boy's monster wish comes true

By Wes Venteicher, Tribune reporter July 15, 2014

A 4 foot tall boy became an 800 foot tall lizard in a Near Northwest Side production studio Sunday, battling monsters and wreaking havoc on a miniature Chicago. Five year old Maddex, aka "Madzilla," stomped in costume through a meticulously designed set that volunteers built last week as part of a Make A Wish Foundation project. Cameras rolled as he roared, stomped and took directorial cues in front of a green screen. Maddex his parents asked that his last name be left out of this story for.

Illinois customers now have four choices for electricity

By Julie Wernau, Tribune reporter January 27, 2011

This time last year, Chicagoans had just one choice when it came to their residential electricity supplier: Commonwealth Edison Co. As of this week, they have four choices and could see more, thanks in part to a recent Illinois Commerce Commission decision that enables alternative electric suppliers to bill customers through ComEd. The ruling makes it easier for alternative electricity suppliers to enter the market because they pay ComEd to handle the billing at a.

Power out? Just text ComEd

By Julie Wernau and Tribune reporter January 6, 2012

Commonwealth Edison Co. customers can now text ComEd to let them know their power has gone out. And, even better, ComEd will text back. The free text messaging program asks customers to text the word "out" to 26633 to report an outage. ComEd will text back in a series of canned messages to let you know it's aware of the outage, when the power might be restored, when a crew is enroute to fix it, when a crew is on site and when the power has been restored. To sign up, customers enter their. Johnson, Tribune reporter July 13, 2014

LAS VEGAS The 2014 15 Bulls are taking shape. They're just not making it official yet. League sources said Kirk Hinrich will follow Pau Gasol and officially sign in the coming days. Nikola Mirotic tweeted that he will "fulfill a dream" and leave Real Madrid for the Bulls. But as backup center Greg Smith's imminent trade to the Mavericks indicates, the Bulls' financial picture is fluid. The deadline to use the amnesty provision on Carlos Boozer is Wednesday. I presume it was a heat related outage. I grew up in St. Louis, where it's much hotter than Chicago, and we never had any power outages. Also, we have friends and relatives in the Phoenix area and they never mention anything about power outages. I think it's time for ComEd to provide some answers, because it appears that their management in more interested in pursuing rate increases than in addressing the service issues. Ian Thorpe, Australia's most decorated Olympian, revealed he was gay in an emotional television interview Sunday, ending years of speculation about the champion swimmer's sexuality. The five times Olympic gold medalist made the admission to British journalist Michael Parkinson in a pre recorded interview on Australia's Channel 10 in which he shared his relief in freeing himself from living "a lie. " "I've thought about this for a long time. I'm not straight," the.
