LONDON -- Chelsea capitulated in the second half against relegation-threatened Southampton by surrendering a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 in the English Premier League on Wednesday. Demba Ba and Eden Hazard gave Chelsea a comfortable halftime lead before the third-place side experienced its second consecutive home setback in the league. Southampton substitute Rickie Lambert made an immediate impact early in the second half, heading past Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech to reduce the deficit. And Jason Puncheon completed Southamptons comeback in the 75th minute when he volleyed in the equalizer. As Southampton rose three points clear of the drop zone, Chelsea missed a chance to strengthen its grip on third place. Despite manager Rafa Benitez, who is contracted only until the end of the season, being booed by disgruntled home fans, the draw came on the day a potential Chelsea managerial target, Pep Guardiola, announced he would join Bayern Munich. The prospect of another letdown by Chelsea, having lost to Queens Park Rangers at the start of the month, appeared unlikely in the first half. Although the breakthrough didnt come for 25 minutes, Chelsea had been in complete control with a disciplined display against a side it thrashed 5-1 in the FA Cup on Jan. 5. Benitezs decision to keep Fernando Torres on the bench was justified as Ba netted his third goal since arriving at the start of the January transfer window. Lampard did the hard work on the right flank, holding off the visiting defence before Cesar Azpilicueta whipped in a cross that Oscar headed on for Ba to slice into the net. Southampton created no danger near Cechs goal until Steven Davis struck wide but that was a rare threatening moment from the visitors. Chelsea was pushing for the second goal, with Frank Lampard missing the target from Matas cutback and Oscar slicing the ball wide before the lead was extended. Ramires hit the bar after pouncing on a loose ball and Hazard met the rebound and buried it in the net. Chelsea was cruising until Southampton replaced Jay Rodriguez with Lambert in the 55th and the comeback was on three minutes later. Lambert headed in his 10th goal of the season after connecting with Nathaniel Clynes precise cross. The closest Chelsea came to extending its lead was Lampard sending a free kick over until Stamford Bridge was silenced by Southamptons equalizer. Luke Shaw, Southamptons 17-year-old defender, rampaged down the left flank unchallenged before crossing into the penalty area, where Ramirez clipped the ball across to Puncheon. After teeing up the shot for himself, Puncheon volleyed beyond Cech with a fine finish in the 75th. The discontent among the home crowd only heightened when, four minutes later, fans favourite Lampard was replaced by the misfiring Torres. And the Spain striker missed his best chance to produce a winner when he missed the target after being set up by Mata. nfl jerseys china. -- During the Magics recent struggles one of the few constants has been the offence provided by Arron Afflalo. jerseys from china. The Spanish giants have dropped eight points from a possible 12 in the defence of their La Liga title, leaving the team in the unusual position of mid-table and prompting heavy criticism from coach Jose Mourinho about the players lack of commitment and spirit.MILWAUKEE - Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig said discussions on a new collective bargaining agreement have been very constructive, and he sees no reason to set a timetable for getting a deal done. "I hope well continue on that path," Selig said of the positive talks Monday night before Game 2 of the NL championship series. MLBs agreement with the players union expires on Dec. 11. Selig said the present discussions have been far different from labour battles in previous decades. The most recent labour peace began when the sides came to an agreement after the cancellation of the end of the 1994 season. "The sport, Ive often said, was stuck in neutral for 25 years. And thats one of the reasons. It was brutal. It was really brutal. Every two or three years we went back to this," Selig said. "The fans got tired of all that, got tired of hearing about it. And I dont blame them. So, 16 years of labour peace has really, really helped us." Selig said he has told MLB executive vice-president Rob Manfred and union head Michael Weiner not to set arbitrary time limits to try and finish a deal. "Just keep working, make progress, continue to make progress, and I think things will work out well," the commissioner said. Both the NFL and NBA have been in contentious labour disputes this year. NFL owners locked out their players for more than four months before coming to a new 10-year deal in July. NBA owners locked out their players on July 1 and the league has already cancelled the pre-season. Selig said just because there hasnt been a lot of public discussion, doesnt mean that things havent been progressing. "Both sides are very constructive and have work to do and understand that trying this in the media is not a goodd thing," the commissioner said.dddddddddddd. "That was the problem in the 90s. Every day you spent the first half of the day either mad at some reporter for something he wrote or who leaked it to who." "Were past all that now," he added. Selig also favours expanding the playoffs to 10 teams from eight, but said it may be too optimistic to implement the change next season. He also believes baseball can keep post-season games from stretching into November. "It depends on how we start the season and how we do things," Selig said. "That certainly is not a given." Selig also addressed a number of topics regarding different teams: -- The commissioner said his meeting with prospective Astros owner Jim Crane last week in Milwaukee went well. The Houston businessmans US$680 million deal to purchase the club was announced in May. There is a Nov. 30 deadline between Crane and current owner Drayton McLane to transfer ownership of the club. -- Selig said he has no concerns about the Mets financial woes or their ability to repay a loan from MLB. Last month, the team said the sale of a stake of the club to hedge fund manager David Einhorn for $200 million has fallen through. The commissioner said hes talked to Mets owner Fred Wilpon and that theres been no discussion of a date to repay the loan. "The loan will be paid back, no question about that," Selig said. -- The commissioner said he will testify in the Dodgers bankruptcy proceedings if asked by a Delaware judge. Selig said theyve done very well in court so far in a hostile legal battle with Dodgers owner Frank McCourt. "If a judge tells me to be in Wilmington, Delaware, then thats where Ill be," Selig said. "You bet." cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '
