(Sports Network) - Jered Weaver tries to stop a personal four-game losing streak this evening when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim continue their three-game series against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. Weaver had already begun to hear whispers of a Cy Young Award when he opened up the season 6-0 with a 0.99 earned run average. However, he went on to lose his next four starts and on Monday against Oakland received a no-decision. Weaver, though, pitched well against the Athletics, giving up just a run and six hits in seven innings to lower his earned run average to 2.35. Still, though, a loss today would give him five straight losing decisions for the first time in his career. Pitchers are going to go through slumps just like hitters, Weaver said. Its nothing to hang your head about. I got off to too good a start, and expectations were too high. I guess Im back to being a normal pitcher. Im going to go out and battle and keep our team in the game. Weaver has faced the Twins eight times and is 4-2 with a 3.91 ERA against them. The Angels stunned Minnesota on Friday, as Erick Aybars homer powered a five- run eighth inning, while Peter Bourjos tripled and scored the decisive run in the ninth, lifting Los Angeles to a 6-5 win. Bourjos started the eighth-inning rally with an infield single, later scoring on Aybars three-run shot. The center fielder also robbed Jim Thome of a home run in the sixth inning to help the Angels start their six-game road trip on a positive note. They secured the victory only after Jordan Walden worked out of a jam in the bottom half of the ninth. Twins starter Scott Baker tossed seven scoreless innings, but the effort was wasted as Minnesota lost for the sixth time in seven games. Hoping for a similar performance tonight, the Twins will pin their hopes on Anthony Swarzak, as he steps in for an ailing Francisco Liriano, who has been scratched with soreness in his pitching shoulder. Swarzak lost his only other start this season and has lost his last six major league decisions dating back to Aug. 1, 2009. He is 0-2 on the season with a 7.71 ERA. The Twins won five of seven versus the Angels last season.
