(Sports Network) - Aaron Harang makes his San Diego debut when the Padres open the home portion of their schedule with a two-game set against the defending world champion San Francisco Giants this evening at Petco Park. Opening Day at home is always a special day, Padres manager Bud Black said. Going back and seeing a packed house and seeing the fans who were so great last year [is special]. A San Diego native, Harang spent parts of the last eight seasons in Cincinnati and went 6-7 with a 5.32 earned run average in 22 games (20 starts) last year. He was slowed by lower back spasms that caused him to miss a portion of the season on the disabled list. Harang has struggled after posting back-to-back 16 win campaigns from 2006-07, as he has won just six games in each season since while losing 17 and 14 games, respectively, in the two years before last years injury-plagued season. The Padres were denied their first season-opening three-game sweep since their inaugural campaign in 1969 on Sunday, as St. Louis Jaime Garcia stymied them in a 2-0 shutout.
