Located about 3km west of the city center, the Lingering Garden China vacation was originally built in the Ming Dynasty by a doctor who wanted to give his parents a relaxing place to recover from illness. With coverage of 23,310 m2, the garden is divided into four distinctly themed sections: East, Central, West and North.
Dating back to over 400 years, the Lingering Garden has changed hands several times, and was said to have been created during the Ming Dynasty. One of the more notable owners was a famous calligrapher by the name of Liu Shu, whose best work can be seen along the 700 metre long corridor of the garden. This popular attraction of Suzhou Tour Guide is divided into four themes, which can be found in the east, west, north and central areas. The central area, which is dominated by an artificial lake, has some of the oldest buildings in the garden. Another highlight of the Lingering Garden is the bonsai garden that boasts close to 500 trees.
The Lingering Garden has the greatest number of building structures of all the gardens in Suzhou. The structures consist of halls, corridors, painted walls, and archways together with rockery, pools, flowers and trees combine into dozens of different miniature gardens. The utilization of space is evidence of the superb artistry of those who built the garden. More Classic China tours on our website.
