TORONTO -- The Toronto Marlies learned the hard way that major momentum swings can happen quickly in the American Hockey League. Down 1-0 after a dismal two periods, the Marlies struck with a pair of goals just 1:16 apart in the third, only to give up three straight to the Syracuse Crunch later in the period en route to a 4-3 loss. "Youre standing up celebrating and then the next minute your emotions are going the other way," said Ryan Hamilton, who scored the Marlies first goal, his fifth in the past three games. "It was one of those games. Its just frustrating because we know wins are huge right now. We need two points every game." Kyle Palmieri had a pair of goals, while Timo Pielmeier stopped 27 shots for the win. Josh Green and Rick Schofield also scored for the Crunch (31-36-7). Joe Colborne and Fabian Brunnstrom had the other goals for the Marlies (35-29-11). Ben Scrivens had a busy night, facing 42 shots in net. With Nazem Kadri up with the Maple Leafs and Mike Zigomanis out with an upper body injury, the Marlies were missing their top-two scorers. "With the group of players we have now, we basically have to play a perfect game to win," said Marlies coach Dallas Eakins. "Theres not a lot of finish in (the dressing room), not a lot of skill. Thats no disrespect to the group. . . Our guys wanted to play a cute, skilled game and they just dont have it in their bag. "We werent going well early, but we were able to get the lead, and then to have it slip away again is very frustrating." Toronto remains outside a congested playoff picture. The Marlies are fourth in the North Division with 81 points, but theyre two out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference due to the complicated crossover format. In the Western Conference, the top-four teams in the West Division secure spots in the post-season. But in the North Division, only the top-three teams are guaranteed to make the playoffs. If the fifth-place team in the West has more points than the fourth-place club in the North, it crosses over to take the final playoff spot. However, a team in the North cannot cross over into the West. The West has eight teams and the North just seven, so the AHL uses this confusing playoff-seeding formula to make things fair between the two divisions. The Crunch opened the scoring at 6:59 of the second period. Green hacked away at loose puck at the side of the net, eventually jamming the puck past Scrivens (12-10-5) who was making his 13th consecutive start. After managing just 12 shots through the first two periods, the Marlies offence finally broke through early in the third. Hamilton and Colborne struck at 3:53 and 5:09 to the put the Marlies ahead, finally giving the 4,214 fans at Ricoh Coliseum something cheer. Toronto looked to have the game in hand when Palmieri scored his two goals less than three minutes apart later in the period. After Schofield made it 4-2 for Syracuse at 17:16, Brunnstrom scored 31 seconds later to get the Marlies back into the game, but they couldnt get the equalizer with Scrivens pulled for an extra attacker. Toronto did have two disallowed goals in the game. Colborne looked to have scored midway through the first, but referee Jeff Smith ruled hed knocked the puck in with a high stick. In the second, Will Acton shot a loose puck into a wide-open net, but Smith had blown the play dead after losing sight of the puck. The game got a little ugly at 16:33 of the second period when Brian McGratton took a major penalty for spearing Aaron Voros. McGratton had fought Jeff Cowan in the first period after drilling Josh Engel with a big hit in the Marlies end, knocking out a pane of glass. Eakins wasnt pleased with McGrattons antics and some other Crunch players. "Theyve got a couple guys who arent interested in playing at all," he said. "Theyre just out there to cause a disturbance every time theres a whistle. "We were encouraging our guys to stay away from it, just play whistle to whistle ... and stay away from those scrums. But its hard to do. You get pushed, shoved and punched in the face so many times and then youve got to push back." Toronto next plays on Saturday when the host the division-leading Lake Erie Monsters. Notes: It was a rare 11 a.m. start to the game because it was kids day at Ricoh. . . The Marlies longest playoff run came in 2007-08 when they lost to the Crunch in seven games in the conference final. nike roshe run cheap sale . Most fans dont care who the players are; they just want to be entertained by a winning team. That mentality is understandable. After all, the goal of professional sports is to win, not produce national team players. Some respondents said they would prefer it if the team could win with Canadian players, while fewer still said they wanted to see their team field Canadian-born players at all costs. nik... air max 90 womens cheap . -- The Colorado Rapids have turned around their season. http://www.nikecheapsaleuk.com/ . -- C.J. Right behind him was a Tiger Woods that looked all too familiar. Sabbatini played bogey-free over his final 12 holes, and despite missing a five-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole, put together a 3-under 69 in the cool, blustery conditions at Muirfield Village to take a one-shot lead going into the weekend. Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Wilson Valdez collected a career-high four hits, with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies finished off a series victory by pounding the New York Mets, 11-0, at Citizens Bank Park. Placido Polanco went 2-for-5 and knocked in four runs and Raul Ibanez added a two-run home run and scored three times for the Phillies, who won two of three in the set and improved to 5-1 for the second straight year. Were playing well together and gelling as a team, said Ibanez. This was a good collective effort offensively, defensively, pitching-wise. Roy Halladay (1-0) tossed seven scoreless innings, yielding only six hits and a walk while fanning seven. Jose Reyes posted two hits for the Mets, who fell to 3-3 on the season. Jon Niese (0-1) was charged in defeat for six runs on eight hits but struck out seven over four frames. Halladays only trouble in the game came in the top of the third, when Josh Thole, Reyes and Willie Harris singled to load the bases with one down. However, the reigning NL Cy Young winner responded by fanning David Wright swinging and induccing an inning-ending groundout from Ike Davis.dddddddddddd There are times when you feel like youre in trouble, but I felt like I could make pitches to get out of it, Halladay said of his one rough patch. Its something you want to avoid, but its something I felt I could control. The Phils then gave him some breathing room in the home half with two runs thanks to a Shane Victorino RBI single and Polancos run-scoring double. In the fourth, four more runs crossed the plate on a Carlos Ruiz single, Valdez double and a Polanco two-run base hit. Valdez added a two-run double in the fifth but was thrown out at third to end the inning as the Phillies were able to assume an 8-0 advantage. In the seventh, Ryan Howard reached on a fielders choice and Ibanez launched a two-run shot to the seats in right to put the home team in double digits. Polancos fielders choice RBI in the eighth made it 11-0. Halladay completed his outing by retiring nine of the last 10 batters. Danys Baez and David Herndon each turned in scoreless relief innings to complete the rout.
