For a team that went into the weekend with the worst defensive record in Major League Soccer, keeping a clean sheet against Sporting Kansas City was a positive step forward for Toronto FC, but the inability to score at home against a team that had lost six of its first nine matches shows there is still much work to be done. New Toronto Head Coach Aron Winter has preached patience as he attempts to change not only the personnel at the club but also the culture, philosophy and style, but if his team is to develop as the season progresses, it will need to turn the trend from the previous four seasons which has seen the majority of points gained through the first half of the year. In the early stages of a rebuilding project, Winters team sits seventh in the Eastern Conference with 13 points from 14 matches, the lowest haul through that number of matches since the start of the franchise. The club had 22 points from 14 games last season before a meltdown which heralded the departure of General Manager Mo Johnston and Head Coach Preki. In 2009 they had 19 points from the same number of games, and that total was 21 points in 2008. In the clubs expansion season, the first 14 matches yielded a total of 17 points. In all of those seasons, it was strong home form early in the year that gave Toronto a base to build on, with a poor second half of the season leading to the clubs inability to qualify for the playoffs. This time around, the new look Reds have failed to capitalise on a heavily stacked schedule at BMO Field in the opening three months of the season, with two wins, two defeats and five ties from nine matches played. Aron Winters vision for Toronto FC is long term. What he is attempting to put in place at BMO Field is a foundation for success that cannot be established overnight. It is a far-reaching plan that starts with the first team and goes right down to the youngest Academy players, permeating through every area of the club. It is an ambitious attempt to right the wrongs of seasons gone by. So far this year, the on-pitch product has showed flashes of brilliance, but that has been mixed with too many discouraging days where little seems to go right. Although the team looked defensively sound against Kansas City in our MLS on TSN broadcast on Saturday, supporters left the stadium feeling unfulfilled after seeing their team create only a handful of chances on goal in a disjointed game between two teams that looked low on confidence. Despite the long-term goals being set by the clubs new management, there is still an opportunity to give the clubs fans something to smile about this year if they can find consistency in the second half of the season. The good news for Toronto FC is that the Eastern standings are still extremely tight. Once again this season the west is best, and seven teams in the Western Conference have 17 or more points. In the East, only the top two have passed that mark. However, with eight of their next eleven matches away from BMO Field, the club would need to find road form that is superior to anything it has shown in the opening four seasons to ensure there is still hope through the summer months. Winning away is not something that comes easily in Major League Soccer, and that was proven by this weekends results when there wasnt a single road victory. In fact, in seven of the nine matches, the away team failed to score. Having tied against the leagues bottom club, Toronto FC now face a road match against the team at the top as they travel to take on David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy at the Home Depot Centre next weekend. Road games dont come much more difficult than that, but the Reds can take heart from a goalless draw at home to LA earlier this season where they matched the Galaxy stride for stride in one of their most comprehensive displays of the campaign. They also battled hard to earn a point from a 0-0 draw in LA a year ago when very few people gave them a chance. Training at DownsviewToronto FCs players trained at Downsview Park on Monday morning as they begin preparations for Saturdays match in LA. The match was the clubs second Community Practice of the season, with local school children in attendance to watch the session and get autographs from players. After spending four seasons without a training facility of its own, the club will make Downsview Park its permanent base by this time next year, and the first team will start using a temporary grass pitch at the facility within the next few weeks. Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment announced earlier this spring that Downsview would be the location for a new $17.5 million state of the art facility and work has already begun. Last week a temporary pitch was installed and in the coming days the runway will be removed at the old airfield site in the north of Toronto. Plans are currently being finalised for the clubhouse which will include locker rooms and club offices. Womens Kellen Winslow Jersey . The two players offer leadership and a proven pedigree, said head coach Aron Winter. And Winter promised more new faces ahead for his struggling 2-7-9 team, which was winless in nine Major League Socce outings going into Wednesdays night game with the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps. METAIRIE, La. -- The New Orleans Saints have placed the franchise tag on Drew Brees -- giving them exclusive negotiating rights with their Pro Bowl quarterback for the next year. Brees has been involved in lengthy contract talks with the Saints and, without the tag, could have negotiated with other teams as a free agent. Team spokesman Greg Bensel said Saturday that the Saints were officially notifying the NFL of the designation. The New Orleans Times-Picayune and ESPN.com previously reported that Brees woould get the tag.dddddddddddd. In January, Brees said he would be "beyond stunned" if he and the Saints are unable to agree on a contract extension during this off-season. In 2011, Brees set NFL records with 468 completions, 5,476 yards passing and a completion percentage of 71.2. His prolific passing numbers helped the Saints set a new NFL high for total offensive yards in a season with 7,474. He has been with the Saints for six seasons, leading them to a win in the 2010 Super Bowl. cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
