Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Lenzelle Smith, Jr. finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds, and No. 4 Ohio State pulled away for a 64-49 victory against 20th-ranked Michigan. The teams had been tied atop the conference standings, but the Buckeyes (19-3, 7-2 Big Ten) dominated the second half. They used a 14-2 run to turn a one- point edge into a double-digit gap midway through the period, and held on to the finish. Jared Sullinger scored 13 points for Ohio State, which has won four in a row since losing at Illinois on January 10. Tim Hardaway Jr. netted 15 points to pace the Wolverines (16-6, 6-3), who have lost six in a row against Ohio State. Trey Burke added 13 points, including a three-pointer that capped a 7-0 burst and brought Michigan within 34-33 with just under 16 minutes remaining in the contest. However, William Buford sank a jumper at the other end, igniting the key run. Turnovers on Michigans next two possessions led to buckets by Smith and Buford, and Wolverine fouls led to free throws by Sullinger and Deshaun Thomas. Thomas pair from the line closed the rally and gave OSU a 48-35 advantage with just under 11 minutes left. The Buckeyes benefited from fouls the whole contest. They made 15-of-18 free throws, while Michigan was 3-for-4. The Wolverines relied much more on long-distance shooting -- 25 of their 53 field goal attempts came from beyond the arc. But they made only eight of those tries, and the few-and-far-between makes didnt help them heading down the stretch. For instance, Hardaway knocked down a three with nine minutes to go, bringing Michigan within 50-41. Ohio State didnt score on its next six possessions, but the Wolverines couldnt capitalize. Hardaway missed a pair of three- pointers during that stretch, while Colton Christian couldnt sink a pair of layups. Michigans inability to hit shots was compounded by Ohio States rebounding dominance. The Buckeyes held a 37-22 advantage and didnt give the Wolverines many second chances. Even when Michigan did get offensive rebounds, it struggled to score. After Jordan Morgan got a layup to fall with 5:44 to play, the Wolverines were within 50-43 and had an opportunity to cut into their deficit some more because of a turnover by Sullinger. But Stu Douglass missed a three and Morgan turned the ball over after grabbing the offensive rebound. Thomas sank a layup at the other end. Burke then missed a jumper, but Morgan and Zack Novak missed layups after getting consecutive offensive boards. Sullinger blocked Novaks try, then raced to the Buckeyes end of the floor for a dunk, which pushed the lead to 54-43. Burke -- Sullingers high school teammate -- answered with a three, but the Wolverines didnt make another field goal and couldnt make up the deficit. A similar dry spell hurt Michigan at the end of the first half. Blake McLimans shot from three-point range gave the Wolverines a 19-15 edge with a little more than five minutes to play, but they made just one more shot. As a result, Ohio State came back and carried a 24-21 lead into the break after Buford hit a three-pointer. Michigan made 35.8 percent of its shots...Thomas and Buford both scored 12 for OSU...Ohio State owns a 91-71 lead in the all-time series, and has won eight in a row in Columbus. Hamilton, ON (Sports Network) - Alex Suber returned an interception 66 yards for the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter, lifting Winnipeg to a 24-16 win over Hamilton in the season opener at Ivor Wynne Stadium. It was a phenomenal play and completely turned the game around in our favor, said Winnipeg head coach Paul LaPolice. The Blue Bombers scored 15 second half points en route to the come-from-behind victory. While the Blue Bombers (1-0) were victorious the performance of the offense was mediocre at best. Buck Pierce finished with just 151 yards and one touchdown on 12-of-26 passing. The signal caller was also picked off once and sacked five times. His touchdown pass was hauled in by Terrence Edwards, who finished with 68 yards on three receptions. As for the Tiger-Cats (0-1) they were led by Kevin Glenn, but he was extremely ineffective, and the Suber INT led to the go-ahead score. The quarterback racked up 187 yards on 18-of-31 efficiency, but because of his numerous mistakes he eventually found himself on the bench for Quinton Porter. Porter was not much better, completing just four of his seven passes for 40 yards. Regardless of who was under center, Maurice Mann looked to be the main target, as the receiver hauled in nine passes for 120 yards and one score. Midway through the third frame the Blue Bombers took advantage of a mistake, as Joe Lobendahn intercepted Glenn inside Hamiltons territory. Winnipeg was unable to find the end zone, but did tack on three points thanks to a 39-yard boot by Justin Palardy. Palardy made it a 16-13 game with a single on the ensuing kick off. Winnipeg continued to dominate defensively and the unit gave the Blue Bombers their first lead midway through the final frame when Suber found pay dirt with his first-ever interception in the CFL. The Ti-Cats also took part in the interception bonanza, as Marcell Young made an outstanding pick down the sideline, giving Hamilton the ball around mid- field. However,, on the very next play Glenn gave it right back to the Blue Bombers, as Ian Logan grabbed an errant pass.dddddddddddd It was the third and final interception for Glenn, who would make way for Porter. Once again an offensive drive for Winnipeg stalled in Hamiltons territory, but Palardy was able to extend Winnipegs lead with a 34-yard field goal. The Blue Bombers pushed their lead to 24-16 with just over two minutes remaining in regulation when Mike Renauds punt sailed through the end zone for a single. Hamilton would have one more chance, but Winnipegs defense would stick to the script of the game, as Logan collected his second interception in the matchup, sealing the win for the Blue Bombers. Justin Medlocks 42-yard field goal got the Tiger-Cats on the board early in the opening quarter. Hamiltons special teams came up big on Winnipegs next possession, as Markeith Knowlton blocked Renauds punt. The Tiger-Cats wasted little time capitalizing on the turnover, as Glenn connected with Mann for a 19-yard scoring strike. However the Blue Bombers answered back immediately, as Pierce hit Edwards with a 49-yard touchdown pass on their next possession, cutting the teams deficit to 10-7 late in the opening frame. Just seconds into the second stanza Medlock struck again, this time the kicker for Hamilton chipped in a 13-yard field goal, pushing the Tiger-Cats lead to 13-7. With Winnipegs offense not doing much in the early stages of the matchup, the defense for the Blue Bombers decided to slice into Hamiltons lead and did so by grabbing Glenn in the end zone for a safety. Once again though Medlock extended Hamiltons lead. The kicker for the Ti- Cats drilled a 37-yard field goal with six minutes remaining in the first half. That would be the last score before halftime, as Hamilton went into the break with a 16-9 edge.
