ST. LOUIS -- Cardinals rookie right-hander Lance Lynn has been put on the 15-day disabled list, a day after injuring his left side making a pitch, and could miss the rest of the season. Outfielder Matt Holliday was scratched from the St. Louis lineup Wednesday night against the Milwaukee Brewers after injuring his back in the weight room. Manager Tony La Russa overhauled the card, moving David Freese to Hollidays cleanup spot and Allen Craig from second to fifth and inserting Corey Patterson at right batting second and Jon Jay in centre batting eighth. General manager John Mozeliak termed the injury as "very mild" and said Holliday was day to day. Holliday was receiving treatment and wasnt available to talk before the game. "Well see how he feels tomorrow," Mozeliak said. "We dont envision it being major." Craig was activated from the 15-day disabled list after recovering from a fractured knee cap. He was to start in right field and bat second. St. Louis temporarily went with an 11-man pitching staff. The Cardinals had a full roster after catcher Yadier Molina returned from a five-game suspension that resulted from his spittle-laced tirade last week. Manager Tony La Russa said the team would add another arm. "The point is youve got to go to 12 pitchers," La Russa said, "whether its tomorrow or soon after." Lynn had developed into one of the teams consistent setup men and worked 1 2-3 hitless innings with three strikeouts before being hurt on a full-count walk against George Kottaras in the ninth inning of a 5-3, 10-inning loss. Hes 1-1 with a 3.12 earned-run average in 18 games, all but two of them in relief. La Russa estimated the pitcher would be sidelined at least three weeks and as many as six weeks.
