TORONTO -- The Boston Bruins were in no mood to celebrate. After polishing off the franchises first month without a regulation loss in more than four decades, the defending Stanley Cup champions acted is if theyd been there before. Its one of the main reasons they should be considered among the favourites again. "I think it was a pretty good month," forward David Krejci said after Wednesdays 6-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. "We were playing some great hockey and we were having so much fun off the ice. It was a pretty good experience. "But the seasons long, weve got about 60 games left, its going to be a battle. Weve got to forget what happened and get ready for the future." The hockey world wont be so dismissive of the feat. The Bruins were sitting dead last in the Eastern Conference as October came to a close and reeled off a 12-0-1 record in November to jump up to second. The last time an NHL team accomplished the feat was San Jose in March 2008. The last time a Bruins team did it was January 1969. "Its quite an accomplishment," said goaltender Tim Thomas. "It might be one of those things that only happens ... well, for a lot of guys it wont even happen once in their career, right? For anybody who has played for the Bruins their whole career, obviously no ones done that since 1969. "Unfortunately, the way the world works and the way this league works, Novembers gone. Its behind us. This is December." On Wednesday, Milan Lucic led the way with two goals while Krejci added a goal and two assists. Zdeno Chara, Benoit Pouliot and Brad Marchand also scored for Boston (15-7-1), which last lost in regulation on Oct. 29 in Montreal. Mikhail Grabovski, Joffrey Lupul and Matt Frattin replied for Toronto (14-9-2). The Leafs pushed the Bruins to their limit in the first of back-to-back meetings between the Northeast Division rivals. Theyll go at it again in Boston on Saturday night. "Thats a good hockey team," said Leafs coach Ron Wilson. "They seem to have our number. I was actually pleased with the way we played. Unfortunately, they got five or six power plays and we really only had one and a half and I thought we worked hard enough to draw a few more penalties but we didnt. ... "If we keep playing like that, well eventually beat these guys." As it is, the Bruins have won all three games involving the teams this season by a combined score of 19-5. The gap between them hardly seems that wide. Wednesdays game was among the more entertaining played at Air Canada Centre this season, with two quick teams going back and forth and creating all kinds of scoring chances. "Theyre a legit good team," Bruins coach Claude Julien said of the Leafs. "I think the reason weve been successful is weve never lost respect for them and we come prepared to play them." Thomas has played a major role in the turnaround. He finished with 34 saves to pick up a ninth straight victory, the first time the reigning Vezina Trophy winner has put together a personal winning streak that long. His biggest stop came late in the first period when he denied NHL scoring leader Phil Kessel on a breakaway. "Well, I saw Phil coming down on the breakaway and I quickly thought Man, I know he wants to score really bad," said Thomas. "I didnt really think about what he was going to do. I just decided to play him honestly." The Bruins pulled away for good with less than five minutes to play in the second period. Thats when Chara jumped into the rush and beat Jonas Gustavsson with a heavy wrist shot to make it 3-2. Toronto would never close the gap. Boston salted it away with a couple third-period goals, including one into an empty net by Marchand. "I dont think the score was too respectful for how the game was," said Frattin. "It was a nice, close, intense game -- fast and hard-hitting. It was a good game. Kind of felt like a playoff game." The most important thing for the Bruins is theyve managed to rediscover the form that carried them through the playoffs in the spring. A 3-7-0 record to start the season is now long forgotten. "I think we felt we were a better team than what we showed in October," said Julien. "Where we were certainly didnt make us happy. So we just kind of picked up our game and decided to play the way we can. "It made a big difference." Notes: The Leafs went 7-6-1 in November. ... Cody Franson, Colton Orr and Philippe Dupuis sat out for Toronto. ... The Bruins scratched Jordan Caron and Steve Kampfer. ... Leafs goalie James Reimer, sidelined since Oct. 22 with concussion-like symptoms, is expected to serve as the backup for Saturdays game in Boston. ... Announced attendance was 19,643. Tie Domi Jersey . Captain Jason Spezza hoped to find them by holding a players-only meeting on Monday. Facing a virtual must-win Game 3 on Monday night, the Bruins were looking to embrace the energy of playing on home ice -- theyre 7-3 at TD Garden during this post-season -- while continuing to ride Zdeno Chara and Tim Thomas. Well, whats new actually is something a bit old school. Just call it a variation of the run and shoot. Palmer said Thursday he is expanding the playbook from the limited approach introduced last year that provided minimal options for receivers. Its the same offensive system Palmer has been using for 20 years, dating to his days working with the then-Houston Oilers when now-Titans head coach Mike Munchak played guard alongside current offensive line coach Bruce Matthews and blocked for Warren Moon when they called it the run and shoot. "Ive taken that every place Ive gone," Palmer said. Weve been fortunate to be successful with it." Palmer said the run and shoot is alive and well and points to the number of NFL teams using four wide receiver-sets. The biggest difference from the pass-happy offence the Oilers used to now is protecting the quarterback. Palmer said the key now is dropping the quarterback instead of rolling behind the tackle to throw. "To score youve got to be able to throw the ball. To win, youve got to be able to run. Youre going to hit some bad weather and youre going to have to be able to run," Palmer said. That helps explain why the Titans used their first-round draft pick on receiver Kendall Wright out of Baylor, even though they have Kenny Britt expected back by the start of the season after tearing his right ACL and MCL last September. They also have a group of receivers who turned in their best seasons yet in Palmers first season as co-ordinator. Palmer said the best three will be on the field, though he expects Britt and Wright to be in that group along with Washington, who had a career year with 74 catches for 1,023 yards and seven touchdowns. "Im a much better coach with those two guys I can tell you that," Palmer said of Britt and Wright. The Titans posted passing numbers not seen by this franchise since Moon was filling the air at the old Astrodome in Palmers first season as coo-ordinator.dddddddddddd Matt Hasselbeck threw for 3,571 yards, fourth-best in franchise history with Moon holding the top three seasons. Hasselbecks 518 attempts also ranked fourth, while his 319 completions ranked third-most. Hasselbeck also had 28 completions of 25 yards or more, most by this team since Steve McNair had 32 such plays in 2001. Palmer didnt have much time to implement his offensive schemes in 2011 thanks to the NFL lockout, so he kept routes simple. Hes expanded on the playbook this year, creating more options for receivers in their routes to help them get open. The plan is to see during the preseason what the receivers can handle and adjust accordingly. Tennessee ranked 12th in the NFL in passing offence, carrying most of the load with Chris Johnson and the run game was 31st in the NFL. The Titans signed veteran guard Steve Hutchinson to help bulk up the line for the run game, and Palmer said he will definitely help. Johnson also has been taking part in the off-season program. "Were coming together as a group and with the tools that we have at wide receiver, I think thats going to even open up the running game better," Palmer said. Tight end Jared Cook also had a career year, ranking fifth among all tight ends with 759 yards off of 49 catches. He thinks the changes will allow the Titans to take advantage of all the talent with the new wrinkles. "Hes thrown some demanding stuff in there," Cook said about Palmer. "But its going good. Everybodys trying to get it down. Theyre having some good practices out there, just working together." The Titans hold their first on-field team sessions of the off-season program next week. Thats when the quarterback competition moves past individual workouts and film sessions, but Palmer expects the changes will only help Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker. "Weve added a couple plays that we held up last year so from that standpoint there will be more options for the receivers. From a quarterback (standpoint), which I think makes it quarterback friendly, the receivers get open," Palmer said. cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
