Montreal Alouettes wide receiver Arland Bruce issued a statement of apology on Tuesday regarding a post he made on social media about openly gay football player Michael Sam. "First, I would like to offer my deepest and sincerest apologies for any harm I have inflicted on University of Missouri defensive lineman, Michael Sam," the statement read. "Michael Sam is someones son, someones brother and it is neither my business nor my right to comment on his sexual orientation. My comment on Instagram was inappropriate and disrespectful, and I apologize for the lack of discretion." Bruce was fined on Tuesday by the CFL for a crude posting on social media urging Sam to "submit to God." "The comments made by these players are extremely disappointing and do not represent the CFLs views or the views of the vast majority of our players," CFL commissioner Mark Cohon said in a statement. "The CFL is supportive of openly gay athletes in professional sports and we commend the courage shown by Michael Sam. During the off-season, we have been working with an organization that specializes in this subject and look forward to announcing a formal partnership with them in the near future." The 36-year-old Bruce, a three-time CFL all-star and two-time Grey Cup champion, has played 11 seasons with Winnipeg, Toronto, Hamilton, B.C. and Montreal. The Olashe, Kan., native is going into his second season with the Alouettes. The Alouettes released a statement saying they "unequivocally denounce the regrettable comments made by Arland Bruce III. The statements and feelings expressed by Bruce III are disappointing and do not reflect the opinions and values of the Montreal Alouettes Football Club." In the same statement, Alouettes general manager and head coach Jim Popp said: "Our organization supports all types of diversity. Every individual is unique and free to make his or her own choices. We evaluate players, coaches and support staff based on their skill set and not by gender, colour, religion or sexual orientation. The Montreal Alouettes have a simple criteria to determine who can be a member of our organization. We seek individuals who will make a positive contribution to our team goals and to the Montreal community." Popp later said that no decision has yet been made on whether Bruce will remain with the team. He did not rule out releasing the veteran. "As an organization, well discuss the matter thoroughly and decide what to do next," said Popp. The following is the full statement released on Tuesday night: "First, I would like to offer my deepest and sincerest apologies for any harm I have inflicted on University of Missouri defensive lineman, Michael Sam. Michael Sam is someones son, someones brother and it is neither my business nor my right to comment on his sexual orientation. My comment on Instagram was inappropriate and disrespectful, and I apologize for the lack of discretion. I apologize to fans, teammates, and everyone else who has worked with me, supported me and believed in me throughout my career. I not only respect the game of football, I respect everyone who plays it, and it was not my intent to negatively affect anyone, especially this young, up-and-coming football phenom. I would welcome Michael Sam on my team any day, as I have no ill will towards anyone simply because they are gay. I have a brother and a half-brother who are gay, both of whom I love and respect greatly. To the Montreal Alouettes, the CFL/ CFLPA and the NFL/NFLPA – you are outstanding organizations that give many great men the opportunity to play this beautiful game. I have been very blessed to play on your team and in your league, and I am sincerely sorry for any adverse effects you have had to endure due to my actions. Finally, I want to make it very clear that my thoughts and opinions are my own and do not reflect those of either organization or anyone who is associated with me." . Halladay signed a one-day contract with the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday that allowed the veteran right-hander to retire as a member of team with which he broke into the majors and spent the bulk of his distinguished 16-year career. After all, hes scored 86 points or more in four of the last five seasons, making him one of three players in the league (Alexander Ovechkin and Joe Thornton are the others) to hit that threshold four times in the last five years. . Ryan Bolta (@TSNBolta) and the case for Ohio State: If in fact Ohio State completes an undefeated season and wins the Big 10 title on Saturday, they deserve to play for the BCS National Championship. Howard had 20 points and 22 rebounds, and Glen Davis had 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Orlando Magic to an 88-82 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night.IRVING, Texas - Jason Garrett never hesitated with the biggest decision in his first playoff game as a head coach. One might say the usually stoic, Princeton-educated leader of the Dallas Cowboys went all riverboat gambler — going for it on fourth-and-6 near midfield when the safer play would have been to punt and hope to get the ball back. The Cowboys converted on Tony Romos 21-yard pass to Jason Witten with 6 minutes remaining and later scored the go-ahead touchdown in a 24-20 wild-card win over Detroit. Perhaps this is the key — it was Dallas first playoff game in five years. What kept going through my mind was, When you get a chance to go play at the Masters, you dont lay up. You go after it a little bit, Garrett said after a win that sent the Cowboys (13-4) to Green Bay (12-4) for a division game Sunday. And again, a lot of confidence in the guys to go out and execute it. They play football better than I swing a golf club.Theres another key. The tools Dallas has on offence are a lot more potent than a defence that is surviving mostly on low-budget free agents, castoffs and young, generally lower-round draft picks.Dallas had NFL rushing leader DeMarco Murray running behind a line with three first-round picks from the past four years. Romo is the first $100 million player in the history of the proud franchise, and left tackle Tyron Smith joined him when he signed a new deal during training camp.Garrett gambled on that investment earlier against the Lions, with Murray scoring on a 1-yard fourth-down plunge late in the third quarter when the Cowboys were behind 20-7.The risky moves werent totally out of character, either. Twice in a span of five plays in a scoreless game at Chicago, Garrett went for it on fourth-and-1 in field-goal range. Murray got 4 yards the first time, and the second was another 1-yard scoring plunge. Dallas won 41-28.II believe in our guys, our ability to control the line of scrimmage in some fourth-and-short situations, to win the line of scrimmage and to make those first downs, Garrett said.dddddddddddd The fourth-and-6 really as much as anything was just a matter of saying, Hey, who knows what happens if we punt this ball away. For years, Romo has carried the reputation of a gambler who drew the ire of Dallas fans fed up with late-game interceptions that cost the Cowboys games. So yes, hes one to lobby Garrett in a lot of fourth-down situations. He didnt have to say a word Sunday.I give credit to coach Garrett for making that call and going to try to win the football game at that point, Romo said. It shows that he believes in us. I think that he thinks in that situation he wants us on the field to have a chance to win a playoff game. And thats where the big gamble was the safest — Romo to Witten, the tight end who has caught more passes than anyone from the quarterback who has surpassed Troy Aikman as the franchise passing leader in touchdowns and yards.Witten ran straight up the field, got open by faking to his right and turning back to his left. The ball was there in plenty of time for him to pick up another 10 yards after the catch. Romo put the Cowboys ahead with an 8-yard scoring toss to Terrance Williams, his second TD of the game.Tony and I have done that for a long time, said Witten, who recently joined Tony Gonzalez as the only NFL tight ends with 11 straight 700-yard seasons. It was a gutsy call by coach Garrett. He has the confidence to be able to go for it, and for Tony to give me that look and know that I was going to win, turn inside.Kind of makes it sound like it wasnt a gamble at all.___Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL___Follow Schuyler Dixon on Twitter at https://twitter.com/apschuyler cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
