PARIS - Milos Raonic kept his long-shot hopes of a place in next weeks World Tour Finals alive, beating Robin Haase 6-3, 6-4 Wednesday in a second-round match at the Paris Masters. Raonic, from Thornhill, Ont., has a long way to go if he is to somehow reach the year-end event starting in Monday London, which is limited to the best eight on the ATP Tour. Raonic stands a provisional 11th in the points race and must reach the final at the Bercy arena on Sunday if he is to have a chance to book a ticket to London. He would be the first Canadian to reach the finals in singles play, though Torontos Daniel Nestor has made multiple appearances in the doubles event of the season wrapup tournaments. Raonic finished with 14 aces against Haase and never faced a break point in just under an hour on court. "I felt like I played well," Raonic said. "I executed well and gave myself opportunities on the return side. I was solid with my service games. "But its a long way to go for London, there is a lot more tennis to play. The most important thing is to come tomorrow and give my best effort." Canadian doubles veteran Nestor ended his season with a loss alongside Leander Paes, as the seventh seeds went out in the first round to Mexicos Santiago Gonzalez and American Scott Lipsky 6-4, 6-3 in 50 minutes. Raonic, playing his first match since losing a Stockholm quarter-final this month, swept through the opening set in 27 minutes. The second set began with a break for Raonic, facing the Dutchman for the first time after Haase split two matches in as many weeks against Canadas Vasek Pospisil. That proved to be enough to ensure victory as Raonic advanced on the first of three match points. Raonic won his 45th match of the season and next face sixth seed Tomas Berdych, who is already in the year-end field. Raonic has won both of his matches against the Czech, most recently last September to take the Bangkok title. "I have to play well in that match," Raonic said. "Ive played well both times Ive faced him, Thats a big necessity for me. I have to play well and create opportunities. I cant change much, just play my way and dictate all I can." MVP: (KEVIN DURANT-Thunder) - Has been sensational this season and more importantly, the most consistent player in the league. Considering that his team has been without star guard Russell Westbrook and with the free agent departure of sharpshooter Kevin Martin, hes had to carry the majority of the load to not only keep his team afloat but more importantly, at an elite level. http://www.ho... . -- An ugly goal by Nick Bonino helped the Anaheim Ducks overcome the defensive-minded Phoenix Coyotes on a night when their ragged power play continued to struggle. The Galaxy (15-11-7) are third in the Western Conference, two points behind Portland and one back of Real Salt Lake. They were eliminated from contention for the Supporters Shield, which goes to the team with the best regular-season record. Seattle also secured a playoff spot with the result, and will take on Los Angeles in a regular-season finale next Sunday night. The Galaxy have won the last two MLS Cups. "A hard-fought contest, kind of like a playoff atmosphere," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said. "San Jose played a good game, the kind of game we thought theyd play, and in the end its probably a fair result." Asked about the playoff berth, Arena cracked: "Oh, Im just doing cartwheels over that." The Earthquakes (13-11-9) are sixth in the West, three points behind Seattle and Colorado. The top five teams in each conference make the playoffs. San Jose reaches the post-season if Colorado looses to Vancouver next weekend and the Earthquakes beat FC Dallas while scoring at least 13 goals, more if the Rapids score.dddddddddddd "Weve got a very disappointed locker room right now," San Jose coach Mark Watson said. "Well approach (next weeks) game trying to score as many goals as possible, but I think weve put ourselves in a very difficult position." Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane and Omar Gonzalez returned to the lineup for the Galaxy, who had more of the ball and the better play but struggled to create chances. Their best opportunity was in the 83rd minute, when Marcelo Sarvas forced a leaping stop from goalkeeper Jon Busch. Los Angeles thought it deserved a penalty kick when Gyasi Zardes went down in San Joses box after a challenge from Walter Martinez, but referee Baldomero Toledo made no call. The Earthquakes had four legitimate scoring chances, all in the first half, and were pressing in the final minutes. Clarence Goodsons diving header from a free kick rolled just past the right post in the 15th minute. wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap soccer jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap nfl jerseys china ' ' '
