Last year, after falling into financial disrepair, the Canadian Tour reached out to the PGA Tour, which came to the rescue and also began to do some due diligence about taking over the tour. The idea would be to build a third level of golf under the Web.com tour. The Canadian Tour and the PGA Tour Latinoamerica, a circuit in South America, would be the Double A to the Web.coms Triple A. At the meeting, PGA Tour officials outlined their vision for the PGA Tour Canada. It would involve 8-12 events and be solely north of the border. The tournament operators were also told that some changes would be needed, such as improved player services, and scoring requirements. No one in the room seemed to think that would be much of an issue. The Canadian Tour now needs to try and build its schedule, adding events, especially in parts of Canada where it currently has no presence (i.e. Quebec and Atlantic Canada), and stabilizing all its current tournaments. It will get help from the PGA Tour in this regard. As one operator told me, it all sounds very positive and most are confident it will go ahead.
