The Winnipeg Goldeyes are very good when they fire on all cylinders. Those cylinders were firing Thursday night. Matt Rusch gave the Winnipeg Goldeyes a quality start while Chris Roberson had four hits and Josh Mazzola hit his 12th homer of the year as the Fish beat the Kansas City T-Bones 8-4 to take the three-game series in K.C. Rusch threw five perfect innings to start the game and then struggled to get through the seventh. Still, he gave the Goldeyes 6.2 innings and the Fish pounded out eight runs on 11 hits to support their starter. With the win, the Goldeyes improved to 41-29, remained 4 ½ games behind the first-place Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the race for first in the American Associations North Division. The Goldeyes got off to a quick 1-0 start as Price Kendall walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch. In the fourth, Winnipeg made it 2-0 as Mazzola hit a solo homer and then in the fifth, the Fish broke it open with a pair. Kendall was safe on an error and Chris Roberson drove him home with a double. Roberson went to third on a ground out and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Weber. In the seventh, with the Goldeyes up 4-2, Roberson set the table again with a leadoff single and Yurendell de Caster walked. Luis Alen doubled and Roberson scored and then Kyle Day singled and drove home de Caster. Mazzola singled and drove home Alen and then Amos Ramon was safe on a fielders choice and that sent home Day. Winnipeg was now up 8-2 and it was up to the bullpen. Thats when Kaohi Downing and Craig James came on and held the T-Bones to only one run over the final 2.1 innings. Mazzola and Roberson were the hitting heroes once again. Roberson went four-for-five with two runs scored and an RBI while Mazzola went two-for-three with a walk, his team leading 12th homer, a run scored and two RBI. The Goldeyes finished with 35 hits in the three-game series. Rusch (7-2), who struck out five, walked none and got the win for Winnipeg, while Lucas Irvine (2-1) suffered the loss for Kansas City. The Goldeyes headed north right after last nights game. Tonight the Fish will play the Sioux City Explorers at 7 p.m. in Sioux City, Iowa. The game can be heard live on TSN 1290 with Paul Edmonds calling the play-by-play. OAKLAND, Calif. -- Brandon Rushs season is over after two games. The Golden State Warriors announced Saturday that an MRI exam on the teams top reserve revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Rushs left knee. He will have season-ending surgery in the coming days. The typical rehabilitation time is at least nine months. "Hes not doing great. Hes devastated as you can imagine," said Rushs agent, Mark Bartelstein. "Its a traumatic thing to go through for anybody. Were going to figure it out and work with the Warriors and come up with a great plan to get him back. But for the moment, its devastating with surgery and rehab ahead of you." All the good vibes entering Golden States home opener fizzled in an instant. Rush leaped in the air for a dunk when Zach Randolph fouled him from behind with 4:09 left in the first quarter of the Warriors 104-94 loss to Memphis on Friday night. Rush landed awkwardly, and his knee bent badly as he tumbled to the court. The small forward got up on one leg, waved his arms in the air, and shook off teammates who tried to help. Rush covered his face in agony and eventually limped to the locker room with the support of teammate Jeremy Tyler and trainers. "His reaction kind of said everything," Warriors point guard Stephen Curry said after the game. Memphis selected third-string centre Andris Biedrins to shoot the free throws. The home fans booed Biedrins -- the former starter -- before he missed both. Richard Jefferson and second-round pick Draymond Green will be expected to fill the void in Rushs absence. The Warriors could also use the disabled-player exception to sign or trade for a player who earns up to half of Rushs annual sallary.dddddddddddd Rush signed an $8 million, two-year deal in July -- with a player option for the 2013-14 season -- after coming over in a trade from Indiana for Lou Amundson last year. The 27-year-old Rush appeared in 65 of 66 games, posting career highs by shooting 50 per cent from the field and 79 per cent on free throws. The forward fit seamlessly into coach Mark Jacksons system and became one of the teams best perimeter defenders, especially late in games. Rush averaged 9.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 26 minutes per game last season. He shot 45.2 per cent from 3-point range -- sixth-best in the NBA -- and was Golden States best option off the bench. "Its a tough time," coach Mark Jackson said Saturday night before the Warriors played the Clippers in Los Angeles. "Its a blow for us, no question about it, because we lose our best perimeter defender. Some teams you probably dont have to address when something like this happens, but this is an extremely close-knit group, and you could tell they were affected as soon as it happened." Rush was drafted No. 13 by Portland in 2008 after leading Kansas to the national championship. He was then traded to Indiana along with Jarrett Jack and Josh McRoberts for Jerryd Bayless and Ike Diogu. Rush originally declared for the NBA draft in the 2007 season until he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He never signed with an agent and returned to school, playing for the Jayhawks again only six months after surgery. Just as he did before, those around him believe he will make a full recovery. "Hes strong minded," Bartelstein said. "Right now its hard. I have no doubt hell do great." ' ' '
