CLEVELAND -- Asdrubal Cabrera capped a 10-run fifth inning with a grand slam and the Cleveland Indians routed the Kansas City Royals 15-3 Sunday. . Zach McAllister (6-8) pitched five-hit ball over 6 2-3 innings, allowing three runs as Cleveland improved to 2-1 with interim manager Sandy Alomar Jr. Royals starter Luke Hochevar (8-16) was tagged for nine runs over 4 2-3 innings. The Indians tied a season high in runs and hits, 19. It was their ninth double-digit hit total in 10 games. Theyve won six of them, including a 15-4 victory in Kansas City a week ago. Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas left in the sixth with left groin tightness as Kansas City lost for the seventh time in eight games. McAllister won for the first time in nine starts since beating Boston on Aug. 11. The rookie was 4-1 with a 3.17 ERA in his first eight starts after being called up from Triple-A Columbus. He has been part of Clevelands second-half struggles, but has yielded three runs or fewer in 16 of 22 starts overall. The Indians are 5-2 after a disastrous 12-41 stretch that dropped them from contention into last place in the AL Central and cost manager Manny Acta his job. General manager Chris Antonetti will interview Alomar and former Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona soon for the fulltime position and expects a few other candidates to the search. The 10-run inning was Clevelands first since doing it in Kansas City in a 19-1 win on May 16, 2011. The Indians had not scored 10 in an inning at home since an 11-run first inning against the Royals on Aug. 13, 2006. Lou Marsons two-out RBI single put Cleveland ahead 1-0 in the second. Cleveland made it 11-0 in the fifth as Cabrera hit his second career slam, off left-handed reliever Everett Teaford. Shin-Soo Choo doubled to start the rally and later had a two-run single. Jason Kipnis and Hannahan each had RBI doubles. Other runs scored on a forceout by Casey Kotchman and when Jason Donald was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Hochevar dropped to 1-7 in 11 starts since beating the Indians on July 31. The right-hander gave up nine hits and three walks in his final start of a wildly inconsistent season. In 21 outings, he had a 2.88 ERA. In 11 other starts, he lasted only a total of 48 innings and had a 13.88 ERA. Alex Gordon hit a two-run homer, his 13th, in the sixth for Kansas City. Tony Abreus RBI single made it 11-3 in the seventh. Matt LaPorta had a two-run double in the Indians seventh and Cord Phelps a bases-loaded RBI single in the eighth. Joe Colborne and Keith Aucoin scored first-period goals, Scrivens made 19 saves and the Marlies defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 3-2 in American Hockey League action Wednesday afternoon. "I liked the way we played," Marlies coach Dallas Eakins said. "I was nervous before the game coming off the (holiday) break. We hadnt practised in a few days and the guys probably ate some (unhealthy) food yesterday, like I did. "But we were physical early and that got us into the game, and the one thing that really showed up was our skill. I liked our goaltending, I liked our defensive awareness and I liked our power play." Scrivens lost his shutout bid late in the third period when Frederic St-Denis point shot was deflected at 18:12. Nathan Beaulieu scored from behind the net at 19:59 to round out the scoring. Mike Kostka had the other goal for the Marlies, who won their third consecutive game and for the ninth time in 11 contests. Matt Frattin added three assists before an AHL-record indoor crowd of 18,800 at Air Canada Centre, the home of the NHLs Toronto Maple Leafs. "I was just trying to make some plays, use my linemates and get pucks at the net," Frattin said. "They werent the prettiest goals, but we got lucky bounces and we got a 3-0 lead. Bulldogs goalie Cedrick Desjardins stopped 30 shots in a losing effort. The Marlies led 2-0 after the first and 3-0 heading into the third. Colborne opened the scoring with his second goal of the season -- and first in 18 games. He went hard to the net and tucked Paul Rangers rebound past Desjardins at 4:48 of the first.
