SAN DIEGO -- After a tough few outings, Clayton Kershaw is backing to pitching at Cy Young form. Kershaw rebounded with seven dominant innings and got two-run homers from Yasiel Puig and A.J. Ellis as the NL West champion Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Diego Padres 4-0 on Saturday night. Two days after clinching their first division title since 2009, the Dodgers turned to their ace who delivered a gem as he struck out 10 and allowed just three hits. Kershaw (15-9) lowered his major league-best ERA to 1.88. He leads the NL with 224 strikeouts. The left-hander was held out of his last start on Wednesday to allow him more rest as the playoffs approach. "I felt good, so I guess thats a bonus," Kershaw said. A little bit erratic at first with the fastball but A.J. did a real good job of making me use all my pitches on both sides of the plate." In his previous three September starts, Kershaw wasnt as sharp as normal, going 1-1 with a 4.26 ERA. Kershaw is trying to become the first pitcher to lead the majors in ERA in three consecutive seasons since Atlantas Greg Maddux from 1993-95. The last Dodger to finish a season with a sub-2.00 ERA was Sandy Koufax (1.73) in 1966. San Diego had Kershaws number this season, defeating him in all three previous starts. The 2011 Cy Young Award winner was 0-3 with a 4.67 ERA in his first three starts against the Padres, while going 14-6 with a 1.71 ERA in his other starts. "(San Diego) is a tough team. They battle me," Kershaw said. "They put good at-bats on me and always seem to get my pitch count up. I felt good to finally get a win against these guys." Said Padres rookie second baseman Jedd Gyorko: "I think the difference was being able to get those key hits. You cant get him all the time and he kind of got us. Id say our at-bats were just as good as any other game against him. We just couldnt push through." San Diego had runners on first and second in the first with one out and men on second and third with no outs in the third and couldnt score either time against Kershaw. "Theyve been successful against him the last couple of years," Ellis said. "They grind him better than any team hes faced throughout the season. Hes kind of become a one-sided guy against these guys. Fastball in, slider, occasional curveball (with) two strikes. I think he was ready for something different." Ellis homered in the fourth off rookie Burch Smith (1-2). "It was a changeup that was a little bit up that ran into his bat," Smith said. Puig then connected on a shot to centre field off Tim Stauffer in the seventh that was estimated at 457 feet. Kershaw reached on a bunt single to lead off the inning. Kershaw retired 14 of his last 15 batters. Relievers Ronald Belisario and Brian Wilson each pitched a perfect inning for the Dodgers. Los Angeles played all of its starters, except shortstop Hanley Ramirez. The Dodgers held out all of their regulars in a 2-0 loss to the Padres on Friday night, one day after clinching their first division title since 2009. Smith gave up two runs on three hits in six innings. The rookie struck out six and walked a career-high five. NOTES: Dodgers manager Don Mattingly is resting Ramirez to help him recover from back and hamstring injuries that have plagued him throughout the season. Ramirez is expected to see limited playing time before the post-season. ... Dodgers OF Andre Ethier (sprained left ankle) missed his eighth straight game. Ethier, who took batting practice and did running drills before the game, could return when the Dodgers start a three-game series at San Francisco on Tuesday. ... Smiths third-inning single was his first major league hit. ... Dodgers RHP Zack Greinke (15-3, 2.75 ERA) will pitch at Petco Park for the first time since he sustained a broken left collarbone on April 11 during a brawl with Carlos Quentin, who was hit with a pitch and charged the mound. Quentin, who recently had knee surgery, is out of the season. ... RHP Andrew Cashner (10-8, 3.21) pitches for San Diego on Sunday. Camiseta Barça Barata . -- Sergey Tolchinksy scored his second goal of the game 3:56 into overtime as the Sault Ste. ... . Louis. To which I would say two things: 1. Where there is smoke, there is or perhaps has been a little fire. Or, in other words, the two teams would appear to have at least spoken. And spoken is defined as one calling the other to inquire, no more, no less. [url=http://www.camisetafcbarcelona.es/barcelona-luis-suarez-camiseta.html]http:... . At a news conference Tuesday where it was thought that the fiery Schallibaum may be shown the door after a dismal finish to the Major League Soccer season, team president Joey Saputo said no decision has been made on whether the Swiss Volcano will be back in 2014. The Nets said they would issue another update next week after consultation with their doctors. [url=http://www.camisetafcbarcelona.es/barcelona-personalizada-camiseta.html]htt... . "It was nerve-wracking, but we pulled through," said Collaros, who threw four touchdown passes to lead the Toronto Argonauts (8-4) to a 33-27 win over the Calgary Stampeders (9-3) in front of 28,781 fans at McMahon Stadium. When a team sits at 1-8 — their Week 1 starting quarterback on the shelf indefinitely with an undisclosed injury, an offence working to assimilate to a vastly different system from the NFL-style scheme that was shoehorned onto them, and a defence that continues to allow opposing quarterbacks to light them up — you might as well start from scratch. “Its kind of a training camp mode,” said veteran Blue Bombers slotback Terrence Edwards. “I think theyre trying to figure out who are the best five receivers, whos the best back, whos the best quarterback, whos the best group of offensive linemen. So its kind of a training camp mode, but were still doing it in the concept of a game week. And theyve just got to evaluate people off practice and give them an opportunity to play and see how they do in the games.” Since flipping the brass positions of president & CEO, general manager, and offensive coordinator over the last four weeks, the team appears much more open to make changes and experiment with talent positions on the field. “Were always wheeling and dealing, so well see what we can come up with,” said head coach Tim Burke of the new organizational mindset. “Were always in constant communication with (other teams). Yes, it would never happen before.” “You have to play well to keep your job. You know, just like we have to perform well to keep my job.” And when things are going as poorly as they are in Winnipeg, buried deep in the East Division cellar at the midway point of the CFL season, changes are necessary. “We had a tryout last week for a number of guys,” added Burke of a closed session the team held on Wednesday with an unnamed cornerback, safety, quarterback, and pair of defensive ends. “Were just trying to get the new guys like (Mike) Sims-Walker — were trying to get them up to speed as fast as we can. And so well play him this week but in kind of a limited role because he doesnt know all of the offence. It gives us a chance to see what he can do and we think he can do some good things. Every week is a game week so were treating it like a game week, and then we try to get extra meeting time with the new guys and try to indoctrinate them as best as we can. Get them as many reps as we can.” “Weve got our problems on both sides of the ball. I thought our offence played better last week, but then we didnt finish the fourth quarter. I thought defensively that we played well enough for about two-thirds of the game, but the other third wasnt good enough. We didnt have a very good pass rush, and then we didnt cover really well at times. Some of thats correctable. It wasnt that their guys were just beating our guys. We had technique mistakes, alignment mistakes. And all those little things add up. We can play better than what wweve been playing on defence, and weve got to pay attention to the details or well have to do something.dddddddddddd” The team has brought in a plethora of new talent over the last couple weeks, including some NFL castoffs in safety/linebacker Aaron Rouse — who abruptly departed a day later because of an agreement he held with the team to be able to leave if an NFL opportunity arose — former Buffalo Bills backup quarterback Levi Brown, and the Jacksonville Jaguars leading receiver in 2009, Mike Sims-Walker. “Im just learning the ins and outs of it,” said the 28-year-old Sims-Walker. “The coverage is different, the corners play a little different, of course the motions; just a lot of little things. Its not so much the big part of running routes and catching the ball, learning the scheme; its more the little things.” “Weve got a lot of guys that can make plays. I dont know if its just not clicking yet or what, but not only myself but a lot of receivers are trying to make some plays.” Sims-Walker helps explain, at least from a receivers perspective, some of the nuances and adjustments that need to be made when playing north of the border. “In the Canadian league youve got to be more quick than fast. Just little things like that. I cant come out here and run full-speed routes because Im used to being stationary and just going. Some things youve got to tempo and some things youve just got to calm down in, and you cant do it exactly how youre used to doing it. Youve got to do it a little different.” “I have to adjust my game to whats effective out here instead of what Im used to.” Sims-Walker will dress for his first CFL game in the tenth edition of the Banjo Bowl on Sunday. Notes: Receiver Jade Etienne has been cleared to practice but not yet play after suffering a concussion in Regina. Rory Kohlert returns from a hamstring injury and will slot in for him... Second-year Bomber Will Ford will start at running back for Chad Simpson who returned from Miami, Fla., where his partner had a baby earlier this week, with a foot pain. Simpson saw doctors in Winnipeg on Thursday and Friday, but the team says there is no update on his status. It is the same foot that kept the tailback out for an extended period of time last season... The right side of the offensive line continues to be juggled as Paul Swiston moves to right tackle, Shannon Boatman to right guard... 2012 first-round draft pick Tyson Pencer made the 46-man roster this week, but he is expected to be a scratch come game time... Following their loss in the 50th Labour Day Classic in Regina, Burke said he needed to review the video before naming his starting quarterback for the annual Banjo Bowl rematch. He has decided to give Justin Goltz another go for his fourth career professional start.
