BEREA, Ohio -- Marvin Lewis wanted his previous offensive coordinator Hue Jackson to stay with the Cincinnati Bengals to eventually take over as head coach, Lewis said Wednesday.

"We had clearly spoke of an opportunity for Hue to stay here Red Allen Robinson Jersey if he so liked" Lewis said on a conference call with the Cleveland media. "If that's what he chose to do, then eventually he would become the head coach."

Jackson instead chose to become head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

NFL.com first reported the succession story, saying Jackson and Lewis had presented the idea to Bengals owner Mike Brown. The plan had Jackson taking over as Bengals coach in 2018.

This latest injury isn't about how much pain he can tolerate.

"It's about making sure you can throw the ball good enough to help your team," Flacco said.

Flacco hopes he'll know whether he can play sometime this week and this won't become a game-time decision. He doesn't have to practice this week in order to play Sunday because of his experience, according to Harbaugh.

"I believe he has a legitimate chance to play," Harbaugh said. "There's no tougher guy than Joe."

Flacco was among the nine players who didn't practice Wednesday for the short-handed Ravens. It's a list that includes wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. (ankle), linebackers Terrell Suggs (biceps), C.J. Mosley (hamstring) and Elvis Dumervil (foot) and guard Marshal Yanda (shoulder).
Jackson, according to NFL.com, felt the situation would have been awkward.

"I think it's hard to ever replace a best friend that way and be there waiting behind. I didn't think it was the right thing for me to do. I didn't think it would be right their team.

"Obviously, I will always be in debt to the Bengals, but I think I'm where I'm supposed to be right now."
