SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame left tackle Mike McGlinchey has about three months until he has to make a decision about his football future, but for now, the redshirt junior captain said he intends to return for a fifth year.Answering a question about his recruiting process, McGlinchey said Wednesday that he entered college with a five-year plan, and he hasnt deviated from that mindset.I have 19 games left here and thats what I fully intend to take on, McGlinchey said. I have a lot left to learn. Im not ready to go anywhere. I have the best in the business coaching me [offensive line coach Harry Hiestand] each and every day, and its to my benefit to stay here and learn from and theres nothing that I can do to want to change that. I have no intention of wanting to change that.Ive played a lot of football so far, but I have a lot left to accomplish and Im not going to put myself in position to go somewhere when Im not full ready to. Im fully confident that I will be ready at some point, but I dont think it will be after this season.Scouts Inc.s Todd McShay lists McGlinchey as the No. 22 overall prospect on his latest draft board, which was released two weeks ago.McGlinchey was asked whether his intentions for next season may change should his stock rise like that of his predecessor, Ronnie Stanley, who was picked sixth overall by the Baltimore Ravens in this years NFL draft.I dont know, I dont really pay attention to all that, McGlinchey said. Its not going to come down to a projection for me. Its going to come down to a mindset and a look in the mirror of whether or not Im ready to go. And based off of what Im feeling now, Im pretty confident that Ill be back here for a fifth year, and its not any major decision, groundbreaking decision. I fully intended to do that when I first got to college.Like I said, I have so much left to learn here and its not going to come down to projections or potential money that I can make. If Im good enough at the point where I feel ready to do it, Ill do it, and those projections will become reality at some point when its my time to be ready to do that. The 6-foot-7?, 310-pound McGlinchey is in his second year as a starter for the Fighting Irish, having played right tackle last season. He saw time in all 13 games as a redshirt freshman, too, and is a first cousin of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.McGlinchey is the third Notre Dame player in the past four years to say in-season that he plans to return to school for another year, but both previous players to say that -- defensive end Stephon Tuitt in 2013 and receiver Will Fuller in 2015 -- ended up declaring for the draft after those respective seasons.Redshirt sophomore quarterback DeShone Kizer, who is McShays No. 1 quarterback and No. 18 overall prospect, spoke after McGlinchey on Wednesday but wouldnt entertain draft questions when pressed, saying his focus is on this season. If you know me you know that thats the last thing I want to talk about, Kizer said. The circle that I keep close to me knows that those conversations arent going to happen till they need to. . PAUL, Minn. Warren Gatland insists the mistakes of the British and Irish Lions last visit to New Zealand that led to fears for the tourists future will not be repeated by him.Sir Clive Woodward was at the helm in 2005 when a bloated travelling party consisting of a record 44 players and unprecedented 26-strong management team was thumped over three Tests.Woodward was criticised for relying too heavily on his 2003 World Cup-winning team despite many of them being out of form, for pre-selecting the Test team and for appointing former Labour political aide Alastair Campbell as a press relations officer. The Lions fell to their first series whitewash since 1983 and questions were asked over their ongoing viability, but Gatland insists New Zealand will encounter a touring party more in touch with tradition next year. There were a lot of Englishmen that went in 2005 and there was a debate about the number, said Gatland, who has been appointed head coach for a second successive tour.I think when Clive did that role he went in with a model to try something different. I think there was a bit too much forward thinking.?Potentially it could have worked, but its not something I will be employing and Im sure if Cllive looks back there are a lot of things he would change.ddddddddddddTaking someone like Alastair Campbell... that rubbed people up the wrong way, in New Zealand as well. This will be very different. The 2005 tour wasnt the greatest experience and in 2009 in South Africa it was about putting some pride back in that jersey. There was a lot of debate after 2005 whether the Lions was dead and was it worth going on tours.Gatland, himself a Kiwi who played against the Lions for Waikato in 1993, believes the 2-1 series defeat in South Africa in 2009 and subsequent success in Australia four years later restored the tourists reputation.People in New Zealand are incredibly excited about the Lions coming next year, Gatland said. They saw 2009 and 2013 and have seen they have done extremely well. New Zealand want the Lions to be strong. We have to turn up as best prepared as we can with the right team playing the right style of rugby to win those games. There will be no one more disappointed than me if we come away from there losing respect - but I cant see that happening.
